Palace gave Princess Anne two ‘secret stepchildren' in online blunder

Telegraph12 hours ago
The Palace says the fact was attributed after avoiding 'otherwise rigorous checking process'
Buckingham Palace erroneously declared that the Princess Royal had two stepchildren in an online profile marking her 75th birthday.
The piece – entitled 75 facts about the Princess Royal – included at number 14: 'Her Royal Highness also has two stepchildren from her second marriage to Sir Timothy Laurence, Tom and Amy Laurence.'
Sir Tim does not have any children, and while the Queen's son is called Tom Parker Bowles there are no known members of the extended Royal family called Amy.
'Best hidden royal secret ever'
The blunder prompted bafflement among royal watchers, who queried whether Sir Tim had children that had been sequestered away.
One social media user wrote: 'Pretty sure this is an error, but how did that happen? I can't think of any Tom and Amy siblings in the extended Royal family.' Another said: 'That would be the best hidden royal secret ever.'
An hour or so after the piece was published, it was swiftly deleted, and later updated and reposted.
A palace source said the inaccurate fact was included in error after it was inserted as a late addition and not put through the otherwise rigorous checking process.
The Telegraph was told on Friday that the offending 'fact' had been sourced from a 'reputable publication online'.
That publication is understood to be Women and Home magazine, which published incorrect information in 2023. Women and Home was contacted for comment.
The palace marked the Princess's 75th birthday with the release of a new portrait taken by John Swannell, her favoured photographer.
The King's younger sister is celebrating the milestone with a holiday, sailing around the Western Isles of Scotland with her husband.

The Red Rose who could have been a Black Fern - Feaunati's World Cup call

2025 Women's Rugby World CupVenue: England Date: 22 August- 27 September Coverage: Every match involving England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland live on either BBC One or BBC Two, while every game will be live on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and BBC Sport app, with coverage on BBC 5 Live, Sport Extra, the BBC Sport website and app When head coach John Mitchell tapped Maddie Feaunati on the shoulder and told her she had made England's Rugby World Cup squad, it was an ecstatic moment for the 23-year-old."I was full of emotions and super speechless," she told BBC Sport. "I didn't really know what to say, I was just very grateful and humbled by it."After the initial shock had subsided, there was only ever going to be one person the number eight was going to call first - her father, the former Samoa international Isaac who also wore the eight shirt, spent most of his career in England, playing for London Irish, Rotherham, Leeds and Bath, and featured for his country at the 1999 World also found fame in Hollywood after playing New Zealand legend Jonah Lomu in the film Invictus alongside Morgan Freeman and Matt credits her father for her own love of rugby."I grew up around it," she said. "It was so normal to me. I guess there was never a point in time where I discovered it, I was literally born into the rugby world."I remember just seeing him smash people, run through people, got a bit lipsy sometimes, but I just remember having the best memories."It has shaped who I am. I know the game well because I grew up around it. I've still got lots to learn, of course, but I guess it just has given me a different eye for it." 'My Kiwi accent confuses people' Born in Leeds to a Samoan father and a Kiwi mother, Feaunati, who spent time growing up in New Zealand, had the choice of playing for three different international despite embracing all of the blended cultures in her family, she says it was always the Red Roses for her."It was no brainer for me," she said."England was home to us for so long. Obviously we stayed in New Zealand for a while so both became home but to me England rugby has done so much for me and my family. It was always about the English rugby set-up, the people as well."My Kiwi accent confuses people, it's still a part of me. I'm still proud of growing up there and learning their culture, but I'm very proud to be a part of the Red Roses."Feaunati's World Cup call-up marks a whirlwind two years - she only moved back to England to join Exeter Chiefs in 2023 and made her England debut during the 2024 Six turning down an approach from the Black Ferns before she committed to England, she has since faced New Zealand twice in her career and will come up against Samoa in the World Cup pool admits that playing against the countries that mean so much to her family is 'emotional' but that she knew England was the team for her ever since she first wore the white shirt."I love this environment; I love being out on the field with these girls, I love training as hard as we do, and I want to be a part of this badly." 'I chew Sarah Hunter's ear off' With 17 caps under her belt, Feaunati says she is learning every day from the England number eights who have worn the shirt before her. Alex Matthews, 32, will be playing in her fourth World Cup, while former England captain Sarah Hunter is now the defence coach for the Red Roses."I just chew her [Hunter's] ear off daily, which I'm not sure if she loves, but I just ask her heaps of questions," said Feaunati."She's got loads and loads of experience. Alex as well, they're so open to helping me, which I just love, it's really cool."Unlike Hunter and Matthews, Feaunati has not felt the pain of England's recent record in World Cups. England have lost five of the past six finals, and last tasted success in admits the fact she is about to play in her first World Cup is a 'surreal' moment but one she is taking in her stride."It was never 'I'm gonna get there'," she said. "It was more just a goal that I just slowly started ticking off. But as soon as Mitch [head coach Mitchell] said those words, I was really like, 'OK, I'm in it now'."I just want to keep being the player I am, just keep being fearless is really what I'm going after."We talked to the girls that won the 2014 one and they just want us to have that feeling. It would be super cool to do it with this bunch of girls because it's a special group."As for her parents, who will be flying to England from New Zealand for the World Cup, will there be any split allegiances when it comes to who they will be supporting?"They're 100% backing the Red Roses," she says laughing. "My whole family is behind us all over the world."

Peter Andre returns to social media with telling family snap after being slammed by ex Katie Price

PETER Andre has returned to social media with a VERY telling family snap, after being slammed by Katie Price. It came not long after his ex-wife Katie, 47, publicly hit out at the dad of two of her children and branded him a "fake saint". 6 6 6 The battle of the exes hit it's peak this week when Peter, 52, posted a statement on behalf of his family saying, "this ends today". In retaliation, Katie then shared her own social media post last night, where she was clearly taking a swipe at the Mysterious Girl singer. Now, in his first post since he released his bombshell statement about the on-going feud with Katie, Peter shared a sweet family photo on his latest Instagram Story. In the picture, the singer along with wife Emily and the three kids they share together, could be see standing united. They had their backs to the camera, and they were seen walking along the beach holding hands, as a show of solidarity. Pete simply wrote "Cyprus" over the photo. Peter's return to social media came after he addressed the on-going feud between his family and Katie. Tension has been high between the pair, as Katie blames her ex for a rift between her and Princess, 52. Pricey claims she was "banned" by Peter from appearing in her daughter's reality show, The Princess Diaries. On Thursday, the dad-of-five released a statement about his ex-wife saying he'd "stayed silent" for 16 years since their split in 2009. Princess Andre breaks silence on Peter and Katie's bitter feud after his blistering statement Pete said he chose to speak out now after Katie claimed she was being frozen out of Princess' burgeoning TV career. "The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight," Pete wrote in the letter published on social media. "For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood." Pete concluded: "Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations that I have yet to address. Those will be dealt with in the coming months." 6 KATIE BITE'S BACK Katie then responded yesterday with her own statement. Although she didn't mention Peter by name in her post, it was clearly taking a swipe at her ex following their public fallout. She wrote: "Saints and Sinners. As we know, in this life we are thought of as Saints and Sinners. "I know I will always be seen as a Sinner. That's fair, I allowed myself to fall into a reliance on drugs and alcohol. At times I was not the mother I should have been while I struggled with mental illness. Peter Andre's statement in full Peter hit back after Katie's claims on her recent podcast that she was being frozen out of Princess's career - despite Princess living with her. Peter wrote on Instagram: "For sixteen years I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silence has been incredibly frustrating. "That ends today. "The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. "For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. "In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. I have never made this public before out of respect for my children." "In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases found my ex wife had made false claims. She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise, to me and my management. "The same falsehoods are being repeated today." "Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations that I have yet to address. Those will be dealt with in the coming months." His statement came just hours after Katie claimed that Princess was living with her on her latest podcast. She said: "I've missed out so much with Princess. I haven't watched the show, but, people have told me how proud I should be of the kids and how they Princess does talk highly of me all the way through it so although I'm not in the show she speaks about me all the time which is really sweet. "But why wouldn't she, because she lives with me. And this is another thing I need to clear up, the kids have never lived just with Pete, we've shared the kids." "I have been at times a poor friend, an awful sibling, and an untrustworthy partner. I've self-medicated, been unfaithful, damaged myself and those that I love." The lengthy post continued and then, in a clear swipe at Pete, she wrote: "Some Saints are fake. They play the victim and to succeed in life they need a at least a Sinner. Without the Sinner they don't get to be the Saint... Katie added: "As a Sinner - I sometimes get bored of these Saints." After meeting on I'm A Celebrity in 2004, Peter and Katie had a whirlwind romance which saw them wed the following year, but were divorced by 2009. The couple share kids Junior, 20, and Princess, 18, PRINCESS SPEAKS OUT It was not just the famous exes who were sharing their thoughts in public. Daughter Princess also spoke out about the rift between her parent s. The teenager took to Snapchat for a candid Q&A with her followers yesterday, When one fan asked: 'Does it affect you even now when your mum and dad don't get on?', Princess responded with a short video message. 'To be honest it doesn't affect me. At the end of the day, they broke up when I was two years old so I don't even have any memory of them being together,' she said. Over the top of the clip, Princess wrote: 'I love my mum and dad and that's all that matters.'
