Maycee Barber: UFC Vegas 107's Erin Blanchfield is 'a boring fighter' with 'a terrible fighting style'
Maycee Barber isn't impressed with Erin Blanchfield.
The pair of top-ranked flyweight contenders collide this Saturday night in UFC Vegas 107's main event. Barber and Blanchfield have long appeared to be on a collision course, with a previously booked matchup falling through in 2021 when an injury forced Barber's withdrawal.

Thanks to that previous instance, Blanchfield has recently expressed her worries that Barber will once again miss fight night. Barber reacted to the comments on Tuesday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show."
"She's just trying to figure out what she can say bad about me, because I think she can't really talk anything bad about my style or anything about my marketability," Barber said. "I think it's just the only thing she can say about me — that she thinks I might not show up to the fight versus her. I think her fighting style is terrible, and there's a lot of things you can say about Erin Blanchfield — she's a boring fighter, she has a terrible fighting style.
"It's boring. Have you watched it?" Barber continued. "Do you think she's an exciting fighter? She's a good fighter, but is she an exciting fighter, though?"
When the original Blanchfield vs. Barber fight fell through in 2021, Blanchfield ultimately earned a one-sided win over replacement opponent Miranda Maverick. Coincidentally, Barber had come off a controversial victory of her own against Maverick immediately prior, but has since gained plenty of momentum by winning six bouts in a row.

Since then, Blanchfield has suffered just one setback over her past six bouts — when she lost a unanimous decision to recent title challenger Manon Fiorot in March 2024. Blanchfield rebounded with a decision win over former two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas this past November, however Barber believes the judges did her rival a favor in that one.
"Manon exposed Erin's holes, and I think she was gifted the win over Rose," Barber said. "I think Rose won the fight against Erin, honestly. I think she beat her in the striking, and I think she got lucky in that fight.
"I think a lot of people didn't [score it for Blanchfield]. I think Rose is on her way out, and I think the UFC knows that. I think a lot of people know that. So what good would it do to give Rose the decision over Erin? So I think they gave Erin the decision over Rose because Erin's the younger fighter.
"I'm not sure exactly what they're thinking, but I think there's some biased judges, for sure."

Barber's winning streak is undeniably the best of her career, and up there with the best currently at 125 pounds. Following the champion Valentina Shevchenko's latest title defense against Fiorot at UFC 315, "The Bullet" is expected to wait to see which contender emerges as the next in line.

While names like Barber, Blanchfield and Natalia Silva are all at the front of the flyweight list, reigning strawweight queen Zhang Weili has been linked to a champion vs. champion fight with Shevchenko since late 2024. Barber has mixed feelings on that idea, but has heard rumblings about its validity.
"I was actually told that a while ago. And honestly, I think, for me, as a competitor in the flyweight division, obviously I want a title shot after I beat Erin," Barber said. "But also, it's cool to see that they keep trying to unite the belts or have a double champ. I don't know if Weili beats Valentina though, to be honest. I think Valentina is fast. I know Weili has the power, but Valentina is fast and I think Valentina is such a dominant champion."

Assuming the Shevchenko vs. Zhang superfight does happen next, Barber may have to fight once more if she gets past Blanchfield. In that case, a Silva clash could look like the obvious next step on paper.
Barber isn't overly keen on the idea, though. If they end up fighting one day, "The Future" sees it happening when either woman is the champion. Although Silva's latest performance saw her dispatch ex-champ Alexa Grasso, Barber still thinks a win over Blanchfield will put her ahead of the Brazilian.
"When I win on Saturday, I'm planning on calling for a title shot. That's the plan," Barber said. "I do [think I'll get it]. I don't think I need to say anything more, I think that will be enough.
"You already know that every time I go out to fight, I try to hurt people. My plan is to hurt Erin and to make her bleed a lot and to finish her. I think that that's a good statement, and I don't want a decision. I think that all of Erin's fights go to boring decisions, so my plan is to finish her."

Former Exeter flanker Ewers retires aged 34
Dave Ewers is regarded as one of the key players during Exeter's trophy-winning years [Getty Images] Former Exeter flanker Dave Ewers has retired from rugby union. The 34-year-old came up through Exeter's academy ranks and was a key part of the side that reached six consecutive Premiership finals and won the 2020 European Champions Cup. Advertisement Injury kept him out of Exeter's 2017 Premiership final win over Wasps, but he started in their 2020 final victory against the same opponents having also started the Champions Cup final the week before. Ewers was called up to the England squad in February 2016, but a series of injuries meant he never went on to win an England cap. He made 226 Exeter appearances and scored 40 tries before joining Ulster in the summer of 2023. One Dave Ewers' greatest moments came when he helped Exeter win the European Champions Cup in 2020 [Rex Features] The Zimbabwe-born forward has spent the past season playing for Cape Town-based side Stormers in the United Rugby Championship where he played nine times. "Thank you to Rob (Baxter, Exeter director of rugby) and everyone involved at Exeter for giving me the opportunity all those years ago, was a special journey going from the Championship to winning the double in 2020," Ewers said on social media as he announced his retirement. Scottie Scheffler emulates Tiger Woods with latest dominant win
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler emulated Tiger Woods by successfully defending the Memorial Tournament title at Muirfield Village. Only five-time winner Woods had previously retained the crown between 1999 and 2001, but Scheffler claimed a second consecutive success with a four-stroke victory over Ben Griffin. Advertisement "Well, you did it again," tournament host Jack Nicklaus told him walking off the green. Scheffler has now won three times in four starts after wins at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and PGA Championship. "It's pretty cool," Scheffler told CBS Sports after his 16th PGA Tour victory. "It's always a hard week as it's so challenging to play this tournament. "I battled really hard over the weekend and Ben made things interesting down the stretch, but overall it was a great week." Scottie Scheffler triumphed at the Memorial (Getty Images) Scheffler took a one-shot lead into Sunday and the chasing pack failed to put him under any concerted pressure. Advertisement Birdies at the seventh, 11th and 15th gave Scheffler breathing space in a final round two-under par 70, with a solitary dropped shot coming at the 10th – his first bogey in 32 holes. Griffin closed with a 73 to finish one ahead of Austria's Sepp Straka, with Nick Taylor a shot back in fourth. "You know Scottie's probably going to play a good round of golf. The guy's relentless,' said Straka after the round. 'He loves competition, and he doesn't like giving up shots. But it's one of those courses where it can always happen, so you got to be prepared for it. I felt like I gave myself a lot of chances to kind of make a push." England's Tommy Fleetwood was tied 16th, Scotland's Robert MacIntyre tied 20th but Shane Lowry, of Ireland, dropped down the leaderboard for a share of 23rd place with a disappointing 77. Advertisement Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler had his first top 10 of the year at just the right time. He made par on the 18th to tie for seventh, earning him the lone available qualification spot for The Open at Royal Portrush in July. Fowler tied with Brandt Snedeker at one-under but gets the one Open exemption available based on a higher world ranking – Fowler at No 124 and Snedeker at No 430. "That's one I've wanted on the schedule," said Fowler, who faces a 36-hole qualifier for the US Open on Monday. Additional reporting from PA

Watch: UFC fighter Khabib refuses to shake hands with Kate Scott over ‘Muslim beliefs'
Credit: CBS Sports Golazo / Paramount+ CBS presenter Kate Scott apologised live on air after UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov refused to shake her hand during their Champions League final coverage. As the team of Scott, known as Kate Abdo before marriage, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Theirry Henry were providing post-match punditry on Paris Saint-Germain's 5-0 victory in Munich they were joined by the former fighter and streamer IShowSpeed live on air. Advertisement Nurmagomedov, who famously beat Conor McGregor in 2018, shook the hand of every member of the panel before awkwardly rejecting the outstretched hand of Scott. The 36-year-old clarified his position to Scott who then apologised for her attempt on air, by saying: 'I apologise, thank you so much. Khabib, UFC fighter, it's a pleasure to have you. We didn't know you were here!' Scott then moved the conversation to asking Nurmagomedov about his love for Paris Saint-Germain before he admitted he was also a Real Madrid man as he joked with Henry about 'breaking his heart' in 2006 after he scored the winner at the Bernabeu in the knockout stages. Nurmagomedov watched PSG win the Champions League alongside Islam Makhachev (right) - Getty Images/Michel Regan It is believed that Nurmagomedov's decision to refuse Scott's hand is because he is a devout Sunni Muslim from the Russian Republic of Dagestan. Advertisement In Islam, it is forbidden for a man to touch any part of a woman whether she is Muslim or non-Muslim unless they are related or married. Scott has been praised for navigating a potential awkward situation with excellent professionalism but it is not the first time the unbeaten former UFC fighter has refused to train with females in the gym because of their beliefs. Speaking about her experience, fellow UFC fighter Cynthia Calvillo said she found their decision 'weird'. She told theScore: 'It's a little bit weird because of their religion ... they won't train with women. '[Nurmagomedov] is still showing technique and stuff like that. So I still get to watch it. But it doesn't bother me because they're not really being directly rude to me.' Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism.
