I was quoted £240 for my daughter's birthday cake so DIY-ed it for a fraction of the cost with M&S and Temu buys
A MUM who was quoted a staggering £240 to make a 4th birthday cake for her daughter has been praised after showing how she did it herself for just £55.
Pamela explained that she wanted a Trolls-themed cake to mark her little girl Mila turning four, so got a quote from a professional baker near her.

But when it came back at £240, she decided to try and DIY it.
And the results were better than she could have ever imagined, as she took to TikTok to share the finished cake.
She used three cakes from Marks & Spencer to create the tiered design - the Under the Rainbow cake, the Rainbow layer cake and a Vanilla sprinkle gift cake.
She then stacked them on top of each other - with the rainbow-striped cake at the bottom, followed by the rainbow layer cake and topped off with the gift cake.
Pamela placed the finished cake on a pink board from Amazon, and added loads of Trolls decorations to complete it.
She added Trolls figurines from Temu, and used a gorgeous cake topper she'd had made from Etsy, which featured some of the film's famous characters and 'Mila, 4' on it.
"Oops I did it again! Thank you Marks and Spencer, I didn't have to pay £240 for the cake I was quoted," she captioned the TikTok snaps.
The comments section was immediately filled with people saying how impressed they were by Pamela's skills, and bombarding her with questions about her creation.
"How much did it come to?" one asked.
With Pamela replying: " £40ish for the cakes and about £15 for all the Trolls bits!"

Shropshire festival celebrates the world of van life culture
Fans of camper vans, caravans and "van life culture" in general have gathered to celebrate this weekend in tents to motor homes and trucks to caravans, 5,000 people are attending the Vanlife Festival at the West Mid Showground in is the third time the festival has been held in the town to bring together everyone who loves the outdoors and Ruth Jones said people from all walks of life visited the festival and shared stories about their travels around the world. "Some people have travelled all around Australia and others have lived in their vans for more than 30 years," she said. A range of performances are featured at the festival including acts like Metz Jnr, Frankie Roe and The is also a large display of more than 100 classic camper vans and caravans beginning from the 1960s in the festival's Field of Inspiring Dreams."You can see what set-up people have and have a cup of tea with the owners, some even have parrots and cats," Ruth Jones added that the displays brought some people to tears as the caravans reminded them of childhood camping with their families. Damo Jones and Terry Smith founded the festival after meeting at camper van shows and wanted to create an inclusive event where every make and model of vehicle was Mr Jones and his wife Ruth started travelling with a tent at the age of 18, they would look "in envy" at people with camper vans."We would meet friends by inviting people around the campfire and we wanted people to feel involved from all walks of life," Ms Jones couple later managed to save up and purchase a van of their own and have been camper van owners for the past 20 years. They have brought the campfire vibes to the festival by introducing faux campfires that everyone can sit around to share stories and get to know one another. £1.5bn in extra funding for military homes as part of defence review
More than £1.5 billion in extra funding for military homes will be confirmed as part of the Government's strategic defence review, the Ministry of Defence has said. The review, expected soon, will set out the money, which will be put towards work to improve housing and unlock further development. Cash will be used on urgent repairs such as fixing boilers and roofs, and other issues including tackling damp, the MoD said. Speaking on a visit to some military homes in Cambridgeshire, Defence Secretary John Healey said: 'I'm announcing through the strategic defence review a record increase – £1.5 billion in the next five years – to upgrade military family homes. 'Our forces make extraordinary sacrifices to keep us safe and to serve this country and yet for years, we've forced their families to live in substandard homes that you or I … just wouldn't tolerate.' He also said the review will 'recognise the fact that the world is changing, threats are increasing'. 'In this new era of threat we need a new era for defence.' It will be 'the vision and direction for the way that we've got to strengthen our armed forces to make us more secure at home, stronger abroad', he said. The strategic defence review was launched by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer last year, as the Government looks to overhaul Britain's military in the face of rising global tensions. Ahead of the review, the UK has already committed to spend 2.5% of gross domestic product – a measure of the size of the economy – on defence from April 2027, rising to 3% during the next Parliament. Last month, the Government launched a consumer charter aimed at improving the living conditions for service personnel and their families. It commits to higher move-in standards, more reliable repairs and a named housing officer for every family. It also pledges a shorter complaints process and more freedom for families to be able to make improvements to their service homes. Liberal Democrat defence spokeswoman Helen Maguire called on the Government to go further in its pledge, by bringing military accommodation up to the decent homes standard – the minimum standards that social homes should meet. She said she was 'glad to see this Government has finally come to their senses and listened', and added: 'Those bravely defending our country deserve proper housing without leaks, mould, floods and freezing temperatures. 'But it's disappointing to see the Government refuse to commit to bring all military homes under the decent homes standard – a change the Lib Dems will continue to champion, so no military family has to suffer in a second-rate home.' Ms Maguire previously told the PA news agency that military families were 'struggling over the 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day', after the Government revealed it had logged 442 urgent repair requests for service family accommodation during the week which began on May 5.
