India to roll out its first indigenous semiconductor chip in 2025, says IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
In a significant development for India's technology manufacturing ambitions, Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced on Thursday that the country's first homegrown semiconductor chip, ranging between 28 to 90 nanometres, will be launched this year,reported NDTV.

"Today, six fabrication units are under construction. The rollout of the first Made in India chip is expected this year. We initiated this journey in 2022, and the progress has been steady," Vaishnaw stated.
As per the report, chips within the 28-90 nm range are commonly used in automotive systems, telecommunications, power equipment, and railway applications. In semiconductor terms, smaller nanometre values indicate more densely packed transistors, enhancing performance and efficiency.
Underscoring the need for a balanced growth strategy, the minister highlighted the equal importance of manufacturing and services. "While there is a strong push towards services, we must not ignore manufacturing. India's future growth relies on both. It is time to focus on creating our own intellectual property, products, designs, and standards," he said.
Reportedly, the minister also shed light on the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), likening its potential to the revolutionary role the internet played in recent decades. "AI is reshaping industries and societies alike. We must prepare ourselves for this change, regardless of our sector or profession," he added.
Vaishnaw stressed the necessity of developing AI systems that are sensitive to India's linguistic, cultural, and social fabric. He noted that one such initiative is already underway with the creation of an India-centric AI model named Sarvam, added the report.
In addition to his IT portfolio, Vaishnaw, who also oversees the Ministry of Railways, spoke of notable achievements in the railway sector. "India has now become the world's second-largest freight railway network, transporting 1,612 million tonnes of cargo—surpassing the United States and Russia," he revealed.
Passenger capacity has also seen significant growth, he said, adding that the sector is experiencing a phase where long-held goals are being realised.
The minister further highlighted the successful integration of startups into the railway ecosystem. "Our experiment of welcoming innovation through startups has yielded strong results. A new policy is being formulated to test new ideas at scale and expand them based on performance," he concluded.

'They will also share perspectives on challenges to regional security and other regional and global issues of mutual interest,' it added. Opp says Govt scared, Pahalgam will be in focus in monsoon session too
A day after INDIA bloc parties wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the developments following the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Opposition parties Wednesday hit out at the government for announcing the dates of the Monsoon session 'so much in advance' and alleged that it was done to dilute the demand for the special session. Barring AAP and NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, all other INDIA bloc parties had signed the letter. The AAP is learnt to have sent a separate letter raising the same demand. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju Wednesday announced that the Monsoon session of the Parliament will commence on July 21 and conclude on August 12. Criticising the government action, Congress communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that 'usually the dates of the Parliament session are announced a few days in advance'. 'But this time, the dates were announced 47 days before the session began — this has never happened before,' Ramesh said. He alleged that the decision was taken by the government only to avoid the demand of the India alliance to convene an urgent special session of Parliament. 'Serious issues including the failure of the government to bring to justice the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack, impact of Operation Sindoor and the situation that arose thereafter and blatant politicisation of Operation Sindoor should be discussed in Parliament,' the Congress MP said. 'All these issues, which are of supreme national interest, will remain the focus of discussion during the monsoon session as well. Sources said that counter based tatkal ticket may also be booked after Aadhar verification to control malpractices. 'Indian Railways will soon start using e-Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets. This will help genuine users get confirmed tickets during need," said Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Vaishnaw on Friday said a passenger, who has bought physical ticket from the ticket counter can cancel it online through the IRCTC website or 139, but one has to visit the reservation centre for collecting the amount. The issue was raised by BJP MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni, who asked whether the passengers who have purchased waiting tickets from counter as opposed to etickets are required to visit the station before the train's departure for ticket cancellation. "Waitlisted PRS counter ticket shall be cancelled across the reservation counter on surrendering of the original PRS counter ticket as per time limit prescribed in Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Tickets and Refund of Fares) Rules 2015," Vaishnaw said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
