Dame Katherine to receive life peerage
The government outlined Dame Katherine's success which has led to the peerage being conferred upon her: 'Dame Katherine Grainger is Britain's most decorated female rower and the only female athlete – in any sport – to gain medals in five consecutive Olympic Games. Following her completion of two terms as Chair of UK Sport, Dame Katherine was appointed as Chair of the British Olympic Association.
'Born in Glasgow, Dame Katherine read law at the University of Edinburgh and then obtained a Masters in law from the University of Glasgow and a PhD from King's College London. Dame Katherine began rowing in 1993, winning a silver medal at the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympics, before winning a gold medal in London, and a further silver medal in Rio de Janeiro, as well as eight World Championship medals, including six gold medals.
'Dame Katherine is on the board of the Youth Sport Trust and is patron of Netball Scotland, Winning Scotland and the National Coastwatch Institution. She was appointed a DBE in 2017, following previous awards of MBE and CBE. Katherine was previously Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University and is currently the Chancellor of the University of Glasgow and Honorary Colonel of the 215 (Scottish) Multirole Medical Regiment of the British Army. She is also the Honorary President of Scottish Rowing.'

Former Private Secretary to HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Former Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Dame Sharon White, Lady Chote, DBE – former Chair of the John Lewis Partnership, former Chief Executive of the Ofcom and former Second Permanent Secretary at HM Treasury. A life peerage cannot be inherited.

And that is the history of Jeremy Corbyn, Keir Starmer. They want to help the human rights of anybody who doesn't live in Britain but they're very reticent to defend our own interests." In 2013, Ms Truss said praised the ceremony for having "seamlessly combined Isambard Kingdom Brunel and William Shakespeare, Tim Berners-Lee and Mary Poppins." In a new interview with US right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro, the UK's shortest-serving Prime Minister suggests an 'elite that hates Britain' was behind the event. Oscar-winner Danny Boyle directed the spectacular show that kicked off the summer games in London 13 years ago. His work covered a broad sweep of British culture, from the Industrial Revolution and children's literature to Shakespeare and Mr Bean. But it was one section in particular that really wound up Shapiro – the celebration of the National Health Service. Liz Truss has criticised the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony as not representing 'the views of the average Briton'. The former prime minister suggested that 'the views expressed' at the event were not those shared by people outside of London but of 'an elite that hates Britain', even though she praised the ceremony in 2013. Speaking to Ben Shapiro, a Right-wing US commentator, Ms Truss claimed that the 'elite are trying to suppress' the voices of those in small towns and rural communities. Shapiro, who hosts the Ben Shapiro Show, asked the former Tory leader about the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, which took place in the capital. In 2019, she told The Sunday Telegraph: 'I think we need to revive what I call the Olympics 2012 spirit [with] a modern, patriotic, enterprising vision of Britain and we need to use Brexit to achieve that.' The opening ceremony of London 2012 was directed by Danny Boyle and attracted some 900 million viewers. It featured a cameo appearance of Queen Elizabeth II alongside Daniel Craig in his role as James Bond. The pair apparently jumped out of a helicopter together into the Olympic stadium, where the late monarch was wearing the same outfit as she had been when she met Bond in Buckingham Palace. The show also featured references to the novel Peter Pan, the Chariots of Fire film, and several hymns and folk songs such as Jerusalem and Danny Boy. In a segment designed to celebrate the NHS, performers danced in traditional nurse uniforms and white doctors' coats.
