Boardman's dream season ends in state semifinals
AKRON, Ohio (WKBN) – Holland Springfield topped Boardman, 3-1, in the OHSAA Division III Softball State Semifinals on Friday at Akron's Firestone Stadium.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Ellie Wymer delivered an RBI double, which gave Boardman a 1-0 lead.
Springfield's Hannah Schlachter tied the game, 1-1, with an RBI double in the third inning.
The Blue Devils captured the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Andrella Espino drove in a run on a groundout. Springfield increased the lead to 3-1 when Camryn Hall came through with an RBI single a short time later.
Callee Chappetta picked up the win for the Blue Devils, tossing a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts.
Boardman's Tori Strines suffered the loss, pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Boardman's season comes to an end with a record of 25-5.
Holland Springfield improves to 23-9 overall. The Blue Devils advance to face Dover in the Division III State Championship game at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Akron's Firestone Stadium.
