More than a dozen children injured in circus tent fire in Germany

Independent08-05-2025

More than a dozen children have been injured in a circus tent fire in the German town of Aldenhoven.
According to a report by local media, 113 children were inside the tent at the time the fire broke in the municipality in the western district of Duren on Thursday morning.
Media outlet Tag 24 reported earlier today the tent was the scene of rehearsals for a circus performance company when the blaze began.
Emergency services rushed to the scene.
According to Tag 24, the fire was likely started when two children and a man were practising a trick involving fire, and that all three were taken to hospital, with the artist suffering second-degree burns.
The local outlet reported that 18 people needed medical attention after escaping the blaze, with 14 children among those who had been injured.
A kindergarten teacher was also reportedly among the victims.

Boy stabbed to death was 'funny, caring and hardworking', family say

A "funny, caring and hardworking" 14-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed in north Manchester has been named as Ibrahima Seck. Ibrahima was found with stab wounds in New Moston after Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a serious assault around 5pm on Sunday. Despite the efforts of the emergency services and air ambulance staff, he died in hospital. In a statement released by Greater Manchester Police, the teenager's parents said: "Ibrahima was a well-liked young boy. He was funny, caring, and hardworking. "He was our best friend." They added: "He was so smiley and always made everybody laugh. He was a good boy. "Why would anyone do this to him? He does nothing wrong." Police have detained a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of murder after having arrested two boys aged 14 and 16 on suspicion of the same charge. A 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman are being held on suspicion of assisting an offender. Ibrahima ran to a nearby house after being injured, according to the Manchester Evening News, and told the resident: "I don't want to die." "He just came through the door and said, 'I've been stabbed'," they told the newspaper. "We sat him down on a chair and phoned an ambulance. "He just kept saying, 'I don't want to die'." Detective Chief Inspector Tony Platten said: "Firstly, the force and I would like to pass on our condolences to Ibrahima's loved ones and we will continue to support them at this sad time. "This incident that has seen a young boy sadly die has understandably rocked the local community in New Moston. "We have made significant headway in the investigation which has seen us arrest another suspect on suspicion of murder, that takes the arrest total up to five and we are continuing with questioning those suspects today."

Shocking number of sex offences reported in the military last year revealed as ‘little progress made' stopping attacks

A SEX offence was reported nearly every day in the military last year. In all, 357 investigations were launched — including into 55 alleged rapes, 229 sexual assaults and 14 cases of voyeurism. 2 It reflects an earlier MoD revelation that it paid £3.3million in compensation to personnel who were victims of sexual assault in the past five years. Of the suspects in the latest figures, 205 were in the Army, 50 in the Navy and 59 the RAF. In the other cases the identity of the suspect was unknown. Ex-Army intelligence officer Col Philip Ingram said: 'The military keep quoting a zero- tolerance policy but in reality, that is all they are doing about the scourge of sexual assaults. 'There is little real action or progress and no support for commanders trying to identify and root it out.' Two thirds of the alleged offences happened in the UK. There were 25 reported crimes in Cyprus, 18 in Germany, seven on the Falklands and two in Gibraltar. Two dated to the 1970s, six to the 1980s and four to the 1990s. In October an investigation into abuse on UK submarines found 'intolerable' misogyny and bullying. It followed claims made by ex-lieutenant Sophie Brook. The MoD says it is creating a tri-service team to tackle complants, while an independent Armed Forces Commissioner will make unannounced visits. 2

Mystery over Maddie McCann suspect Christian Bruecker after ‘huge sum he spent after she disappeared' is revealed

THE man suspected of killing three-year-old Madeleine McCann is said to have spent £45,000 in the year after she vanished. Christian Brueckner got through vast sums despite not paying his rent, reports suggest. 2 2 The paedo, 48, has said he was living in a camper van and dealing drugs when Madeleine vanished from Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007. A land registration document shows that by 2008 he paid £19,000 for a former box factory in east Germany. Another document reveals he upgraded his van to a Winnebago costing up to £20,000 by March 2008. And it has previously been reported he had his buck teeth fixed for £6,000 in September 2007. A Praia local who knew Brueckner for years said: 'He didn't pay rent for his bedsit cottage, he just covered bills for the owner.' A source close to the case in Germany, added: 'He admits dealing drugs in one breath - then claims he is innocent of all claims in another. 'If you look at his spending it is impossible to see where the money came from without linking it to crime. 'Whatever he was up to, he must have had a serious influx of cash before 2008 when his spending was unprecedented.' Brueckner is in a German jail for rape and is due for release in September. He has never been formally charged over Madeleine's disappearance and denies any involvement. A three-day search for clues in Praia drew a blank last week.
