National language strengthens patriotism through artistic expression in Malaysia
Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) director-general Dr Hazami Jahari. - BERNAMA KUALA LUMPUR: The national language remains a cornerstone of patriotism in Malaysia, expressed through poetry, songs, and literature. Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) director-general Dr Hazami Jahari emphasised the enduring relevance of Malay in artistic works to cultivate national pride. 'Contemporary artistic works tend to focus more on the meaning of independence by exploring issues faced by a sovereign nation,' he said. Hazami noted that earlier works, such as Putera Gunung Tahan and Jiwa Hamba, reflected resistance against colonial rule. He cited Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza's song Malaysia MADANI as a modern example of fostering unity and patriotism. Artistic expressions, whether historical or contemporary, continue shaping a generation that loves the nation, he added. Hazami urged stronger reinforcement of the national language in advertising, branding, and public naming conventions. 'The comprehensive use of the national language reflects a country's identity,' he stated. He highlighted the media's role in promoting proper Malay usage to showcase its beauty and strength. The discussion was part of Bernama TV's Apa Khabar Malaysia programme. - Bernama

#SHOWBIZ: Hot night at TV3's AMT 2025
DESPITE suffering a wardrobe malfunction and having to rush from the airport, actress and singer Daiyan Trisha said her efforts were worth it after she scooped the Ultimate Award and the Selebriti Stailo Terhangat award at the recent Anugerah Melodi Terhangat 2025. The Ultimate Award honours the year's most influential public figure based on their positive impact, viral moments, and public engagement across social and digital platforms. "My fans had been voting every day, so this win is for them," she said when met after the show. "I'm very happy to also win the Selebriti Stailo Terhangat category. I take my appearance and style very seriously. I do get tired of having to look like this all the time, though. For instance, today I had just arrived from Bangkok," she added. Daiyan explained that her attendance was also to show appreciation for her fans' efforts and hoped it would add to the evening's excitement. "I truly appreciate the fans who voted diligently. They don't care about the controversy surrounding me. They understand. I'm used to the criticisms by now. "I accept and understand them because that's what you have to face as a public figure. I'm human. I've learnt to put these criticisms aside and focus on my career," she said. Daiyan's win came after a competitive year where she and other celebrities, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and content creators were challenged to create the most creative video featuring the new Proton X50 model — a campaign that played a key role in the outcome. AMT2025 celebrated not only entertainment excellence but also genuine digital influence, making it a unique awards show in the Malaysian entertainment landscape. Other winners AMT2025 also left sweet memories for actress Sophia Albarakbah when she won the Selebriti Feminin Terhangat award. "I saw the other candidates, and it was just 'wow'. I didn't expect to win," she said. Meanwhile, it was no surprise that Fattah Amin, whose popularity has surged in recent months, garnered Selebriti Maskulin Terhangat award. "I'm grateful to the fans who voted for me. All the other nominees, whom I consider brothers, are also great personalities," he said. Despite fierce competition from other nominees in the Selebriti Muzik Paling Onz & Terhangat category, Khai Bahar proved he is still the "reigning king" among music fans. "I'm touched by the determination of the fans who voted for me. It's a sign that people still remember me and my career. That's what I want to emphasise. Without the fans, I'm nobody," he said. Amid the excitement of young artistes winning awards, industry veteran Datuk Rosyam Nor was presented with Selebriti Viral Terhangat Award, for which he was the sole nominee. "I was actually surprised because this was a special award given by TV3 for my appearance in the drama 'Keluarga Itu'. Thank you to TV3 for giving me the opportunity after a long time of not appearing in a drama series. "When Erma Fatima offered it, I thought the story and my character were too heavy. But when Erma told me this was our responsibility as actors, I accepted it. "I knew it would create quite a stir among TV viewers and it did become viral. My character was very much hated and criticised," he said. According to him, it was halfway through the drama that the audience finally understood the message. "Fans couldn't accept it at first, but in the end, they said what I did was right. It was a success in my acting career, which received 1.2 billion comments (on platform X) and was watched by 11 million people on TV3. "This is huge, considering an actor my age. Nowadays, it's really important for an actor to go viral on social media," he said, admitting that he once felt a similar response when he acted in the film 'KL Gangster 2' 15 years ago. Other winners included Bella Astillah and Syed Saddiq, who were awarded the Selebriti Couple Goals Terhangat Award, staying true to fan predictions. The duo, affectionately dubbed "BASS" by fans, captured the public's attention with their potent chemistry both online and in person. Meanwhile, Che Puan Sarimah Ibrahim won the Selebriti Drama Sangat Terhangat Award, acknowledging her captivating comeback on screen. Siti Saleha was honoured with the Selebriti Ikon Terhangat Award, and Zarif Ghazzi, a breakout star, was crowned Selebriti Newcomer Terhangat. Hot FM radio presenter Keymi was named the winner of the Proton X50 Superstar Choice Award, which came with the vehicle itself and a trophy. The Tonton Original Terhangat category, which highlighted original series or movies aired between January 2024 and June 2025, went to the acclaimed drama 'Bru'. Special performances from the likes of Ella, Anuar Zain, Marsha Milan, Hael Husaini, DeFam, KOI, Iman Troye, Ara Johari, and Indonesian artiste Fajar Noor entertained the audience. Held at the Putra Hall in the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, the award ceremony, hosted by Ain Edruce and Fikry Ibrahim, was broadcast live on TV3 and streamed exclusively on Tonton.

Traditional tunes win global praise
Heritage honoured: The Caklempong Acastra group from Akademi Sains Pendang entertaining the crowd at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. — Photo courtesy of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry OSAKA: It was nerve-wracking moment for Muhammad Aidil Adib Muhammad Azizi and 13 of his fellow traditional music ensemble members as they walked onto the stage at the World Expo to perform for the awaiting crowd. But all the tension melted when the crowd started to clap as the group performed traditional Malay songs, including Tari Tualang Tiga and the ever popular Cindai. The crowd went crazy when they played two Japanese folk songs – Sakura and Mirai. This is the first time this group of students from Akademi Sains Pendang in Kedah has performed before an international audience. 'This is an experience I will never forget. Who would have thought of this opportunity? 'We were all nervous, but our teacher told us to just perform and enjoy ourselves. 'I am glad that the crowd was supportive and enjoyed the show,' said Muhammad Aidil Adib, 15. The students named their group Caklempong Acastra, after a traditional Minangkabau musical ensemble. The group was invited to perform at the World Expo by the Malaysia Pavilion for a two-day show. Two days earlier, the students competed in the International Music Talent Competition in Fukuoka and emerged second- place winners. 'We practised for two months to perfect the songs and our performance. 'Our hard work paid off. 'We are proud to bring Malaysia's name to the world stage,' beamed Muhammad Aidil Adib with pride. Teacher Iza Harlydia Azis said while the students practised diligently for their performance at the expo and the competition, the practice sessions were scheduled at night to ensure their studies were not affected. 'We want to ensure the students strike a balance between their studies and their interests,' she added. Iza Harlydia said for the performance in Osaka, the group wanted to showcase Kedah's identity through its folk songs as well as traditional Malay songs. 'To honour the host, we performed Japanese songs,' she added. Iza Harlydia expressed pride with the group's success and thanked the parents for their support in this journey. Set up in 2023, Caklempong Acastra began making a name for itself when the group emerged champions at the Kids Got Talent Malaysia Season 9. The group has also received an invitation to participate in the audition stage of America's Got Talent Season 21. The World Expo, a large-scale international exhibition organised every five years, is being held in Osaka until October. It provides a platform for nations to showcase innovations, technologies and cultural achievements.
