Bahrain: Two Years In Prison For Human Traffickers

Gulf Insider20-03-2025

Three Asian men who trafficked a woman into Bahrain under false pretences and forced her into sex work have been jailed for up to five years.
A court also fined them BD2,000 each, ordered them to cover her repatriation costs, and ruled they be deported once their sentences are served, the Public Prosecution said.
The case came to light after a report from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence.
It stated that the woman had been recruited in her home country with the promise of work in a women's salon. But when she arrived in Bahrain, she was met at the airport, housed, and moved between locations before being forced into sex work against her will. Prosecutors launched an inquiry as soon as the report was received.
The woman was interviewed, and arrangements were made for her to stay at a shelter run by the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons.

Law Targets Holiday Offenders

Bahrain's Public Prosecution has issued a stark preEid warning to all motorists: violate traffic laws and face the harshest penalties allowed under the Kingdom's laws. Speaking ahead of the Eid Al-Adha holidays, the Attorney General and Head of the Traffic Prosecution urged both citizens and residents to strictly adhere to traffic regulations. He warned that those who put lives and property at risk, particularly during the holiday rush, would be met with maximum legal consequences. Deterrence through enforcement 'The Public Prosecution will not hesitate to impose the full penalties against traffic offenders,' he said, adding that serious violations that result in accidents or threaten public safety will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. With increased road traffic expected during Eid, the message is clear: maintaining order on Bahrain's roads is not just a legal requirement but a collective civic responsibility. Zero tolerance approach The Attorney General stressed that preserving the joy of Eid requires shared accountability. 'Adhering to traffic rules is the only way to ensure safety for all and to prevent incidents that could ruin the happiness this season brings,' he said. In collaboration with law enforcement, the Public Prosecution has reaffirmed its role in safeguarding public safety through the strict application of traffic laws. Officials have warned that no leniency will be extended to those whose actions endanger others during one of the year's busiest travel periods. Safety above all This proactive statement marks part of Bahrain's wider effort to deter reckless driving and reduce accidents through visibility and enforcement, especially during major national and religious events. The Public Prosecution reaffirmed its continued commitment to ensuring the rule of law, protecting lives, and maintaining a safe and secure traffic environment throughout the Kingdom.

Two Asians jailed for sharing indecent video on social media

Two Asian men have been sentenced to six months in prison and will be deported from Bahrain after sharing a video on social media which prosecutors said offended public decency. The Third Minor Criminal Court delivered its ruling in a single hearing. The pair were also stripped of their mobile phones, and the court ordered that they be deported once their sentences have been served. Alert The matter moved quickly. Days before the hearing, the Cybercrime Directorate at the General Directorate for Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security alerted the Public Prosecution to a video circulating online. It showed the two men carrying out indecent acts in public. Prosecutors said the footage clashed with Bahraini customs and encouraged immoral conduct. The prosecution ordered their arrest immediately. During questioning, both confessed. They were held for seven days while the case was sent to court. Prosecutors requested the toughest sentence available along with a permanent ban on their return. The court gave its ruling in a single session. The men will be removed from the country once they have served their time in prison.
