Bahrain: Two Years In Prison For Human Traffickers
Three Asian men who trafficked a woman into Bahrain under false pretences and forced her into sex work have been jailed for up to five years. A court also fined them BD2,000 each, ordered them to cover her repatriation costs, and ruled they be deported once their sentences are served, the Public Prosecution said. The case came to light after a report from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence. It stated that the woman had been recruited in her home country with the promise of work in a women's salon. But when she arrived in Bahrain, she was met at the airport, housed, and moved between locations before being forced into sex work against her will. Prosecutors launched an inquiry as soon as the report was received. The woman was interviewed, and arrangements were made for her to stay at a shelter run by the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons.
