Lily James Joins Chris Hemsworth in Submarine Thriller "Subversion"
Lily James has joined Chris Hemsworth in "Subversion," a submarine thriller that Patrick Vollrath is directing for Amazon MGM.
Written by Andrew Ferguson, the story has been described as a 'Die Hard on a submarine' style thriller that follows a once-promising naval commander (Hemsworth) who is blackmailed by a cartel-like organization into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters."
Thrust into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse with a Coast Guard officer (James) in hot pursuit, the commander must outmaneuver blockades and navigate perilous threats both inside and outside the submarine.
Production begins in September in Australia.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with executive producers Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen for di Bonaventura Pictures.
James will next be seen opposite Riz Ahmed in David Mackenzie's thriller "Relay," which debuted at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival and hits U.S. theaters on August 22.
She is also starring in "Swiped," inspired by Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, a drama that she also produced through her company Parodos Pictures. That film will premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
The British actress is currently in production on "Harmonia," a psychological drama directed by Guy Nattiv, and recently wrapped "Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo" for director Takashi Miike and Neon.
James, who earned Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice nominations for portrayal of Pamela Anderson in Hulu's "Pam & Tommy."

Syrian Actress Diala Al-Wadi Killed in Home in Damascus
Rana Atef Syrian actress Diala Al-Wadi was killed in her home in Al-Malki, Damascus, Syria. The murder was described as a case of robbery. According to Syrian authorities and local activists, the crime occurred inside the actress's residence in one of the most heavily guarded areas of the capital. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the assailant broke into her home after following her, strangled her, and then stole her belongings, including money and jewelry, before fleeing the scene. Al-Wadi held British citizenship and came from a prominent musical family. Her father, Salhi Al-Wadi, was a pioneering figure in Syria's academic music scene and a founding member of the Higher Institute of Music and the Syrian Symphony Orchestra. Her mother, Cynthia, a British national and violinist, was a classmate of her father at the Royal Academy of Music in London during his studies between 1952 and 1960. Al-Wadi received the Syrian Order of Merit in 1995, the highest honor granted by the state, and is regarded as a foundational figure in the Syrian and Arab music scenes. Tamer Hosny to Perform Live in Germany on November 8
Yara Sameh Egyptian superstar, Tamer Hosny will perform live at the Yayla Arena, in Krefeld, Germany, on Saturday, on November 8. He is set to present several of his popular and latest songs. The evening will also feature singer Ahmed Saad. During his performance, he worked alongside other rising talents including, Sherine Mohamed Abdel-Wahab; the performance was attended by renowned producer Nasr Mahrous. Ever since, Hosny worked closely with Mahrous and released his first album, which consequently achieved great success and opened the gates of stardom and fame, not only in singing but also in the entertainment industry. He made his acting debut in the 2004 film 'Halet Hob', co-starring Hany Salama, Hend Sabry, and others. Hosny is known for singing 'Kol Mara', 'Bent El Eh' and 'Aktar Haga', and for his roles in films such as 'Omar and Salma' and 'Captin Hema'. Tom Holland Unveils "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" Set Photos as Production Begins

The new Spidey Suit has more vivid reds and blues, and features a larger spider symbol than his costumes from 'Spider-Man: Homecoming,' 'Far From Home' and 'No Way Home.' In that film, Peter Parker's secret identity is revealed to the entire world, and the young hero must turn to Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange for help. He manages to conjure a spell that makes everyone forget Parker is Spider-Man, but not without some unintended side effects. The spell pulls other web-slingers and their respective villains into Parker's dimension, leading to the viral moment between Holland and Sony's previous Spider-Men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. 'Brand New Day' is based on the Spider-Man comic storyline of the same name. In the comic book story, Parker lands a deal with Mephisto to make the world forget he is Spider-Man and resurrect Aunt May.
