Hansi Flick speaks on Barcelona's plans for remainder of transfer window

Just a week out from the new Spanish campaign being kicked into gear, Barcelona, all of a sudden, have therefore been left looking somewhat short at the back.
Speaking to the media on the back of his side's Joan Gamper Trophy victory over Como on Sunday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of potential reinforcements was put to the aforementioned Hansi Flick.
The German tactician, however, urged those of a Blaugrana persuasion not to get their hopes up regarding as much, in responding:
'I don't think we will sign a new centre back to replace Inigo Martínez. I will talk to Deco soon.'

ST. LOUIS — Yankees manager Aaron Boone says he likes it when he can walk into the clubhouse after a game and not tell if his team just won or lost. Other than the music and Jazz Chisholm sipping on a bottle of beer, the mood was tempered Sunday after the Yankees rallied late for an 8-4 victory to sweep three from the Cardinals and make it five out of six counting last week's series win over the Twins in New York. This last week probably was more of a relief than satisfying for the Yankees, who realize two good series doesn't make up for damage in the standings caused while they were losing 31 of 51 games from June 13 to Aug. 10. 'Look, I think we know we're a good team,' Boone said. 'We believed that even through some of the down times and some dark moments of the season. I don't think we've ever lost that confidence. So we're capable of this. We got to go prove it though.' They're hoping this past week was a start to proving it, but they know they'll probably need a long stretch of winning baseball to repeat as AL East champs, which remains their No. 1 regular-season goal. With 38 games to play, the Yankees still are third in the division, but they gained ground on both teams ahead of them on Sunday, pulling to 5 ½ games behind the first-place Blue Jays and a half-game of the second-place Red Sox. The Yankees also stretched their lead over the Guardians for the third AL wild-card spot to 3 ½ games. 'We've been saying it all year, when we play like we're supposed to play like these are the results you're going to get,' rookie right-hander Will Warren said after his 4 2/3-inning, 3-run no-decision. 'We've been staying with the process. We haven't strayed from anything we've done. 'Just head down, keep going and we're starting to win again.' The Yankees had some help on Sunday. After scoring a seventh-inning run to make it a 4-4 game, they scored four in the ninth on only one hit thanks to two very costly errors by Cardinals second baseman Thomas Saggese. His throwing error on Jose Caballero's leadoff chopper gave the Yankees a runner on second base with nobody out and his boot on Cody Bellinger's bases-loaded, one-out grounder scored two to put the Yankees ahead 6-4. 'The value of putting the ball in play there at the end and taking advantage of mistakes … it was a good way to finish it off going into the off day,' Boone said. The Yankees have Monday off in Tampa, then play the Rays two games at their spring training ballpark before returning to New York for four big ones against the Red Sox and then three with the Nationals. The Yankees are optimistic that their worst of times finally are over. 'When I got here, the boys were down a little bit,' said third baseman Ryan McMahon, who was traded by the Rockies to the Yankees in late July. 'You could feel it. But we're picking up play and it's all about momentum in this game.' The Yankees felt like they had a lot of momentum winning five in a row from July 6 to July 11, but that led into a lot more struggles, nine wins in their next 24. 'We've got a long way to go in this and it's always really good getting a sweep, but we've got to keep going,' Boone said. 'We're not a finished product yet. We know we're capable of a lot, but we got a ways to go.' The Yankees still want to repeat as division champs, then get back to the World Series and this time win it. This past week were baby steps that may or may not be the start of an extended surge after a couple months of serious underachieving. 'I hope so,' first baseman Paul Goldschmidt said after a three-hit game. 'These last six weeks will tell. Obviously this is a good week for us to win five out of six games, but there's a lot of tough opponents coming up. We'll try to play well and keep going.' How is Yankees' Aaron Boone doing? Here is Brian Cashman's assessment
ST. LOUIS — Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has rarely made road trips for years, so it was a surprise seeing him standing outside the Busch Stadium visiting dugout Friday while his sputtering-for-two-months ballclub took batting practice ahead of this weekend's series opener against the Cardinals. Interesting. Time for a team meeting on the heels of a 22-32 run that dropped the Yankees to third in the AL East standings and just a half-game up for the last AL wild-card spot? 'No,' Cashman said. 'Everything that needs to be said has been said.' OK ... then who's the blame for his long stretch of underachieving, which sunk the Yankees from having a good lead in the AL East standings to fighting for a playoff spot with the season down to 40 games after Friday. Cashman exonerates his manager. Asked to evaluate Aaron Boone and how he's handling everything, Cashman responded, 'The best he can.' Cashman then raved about how his manager has to deal with tough questions from media every day before and after games and while knowing angry fans are getting on his team. 'I don't know how any manager, let alone a manager in a big market like New York - speaking here about Aaron Boone - I've told him many times how he does the pre- and post-game, (how) he navigates that on a daily basis, that's not easy. 'That takes a talent in his own right to try to walk through that without losing your cool or getting emotional or what have you. And he's stayed level-headed and even keel. He knows how tough this sport is. He's invested in these guys heavily, as we all are. 'So trying to explain a difficult play or bad performance for a period of time, why the storm is upon us, it's not an easy task to navigate or deal with and remain cool, calm and collective. He's obviously done an amazing job of working through that. 'I know I couldn't do that. I definitely would probably be creating more regretful comments along the way from lack of sleep or getting provoked. It wouldn't take much.' What about all the ridiculous mistakes the Yankees have made this season? There have been a few that had Boone saying, 'That can't happen?' There was Austin Wells doubled up because he forgot how many outs there were. There was Jasson Dominguez being picked off second base because he lost track of the count. There was Jazz Chisholm doubled up at first thinking a second baseman was going to drop a popup on purpose and then saying he had no regrets. There was Jorbit Vivas thrown out at third base tagging up from second standing up because he failed to pay attention to the third base coach, who was yelling for him to slide. What about all that? 'The manager talks to the players,' Cashman said. 'They address them. But when you say it 'can't happen,' you don't want it to ever happen and it should never happen. But it does happen unfortunately.' Is any of that on the manager and his coaching staff? 'Well, it depends on what this the situation is,' Cashman said. 'If the player forgets outs, it's on the player. It's not development. It's not a coach not telling them. It's just something happened, a distraction, what have you. 'And unfortunately, many players, not just our Yankees, are victim of that and they've done it, and it's an awful circumstance to be a part of. 'That doesn't mean it's something you want to put up with, but it's something that unfortunately has happened. Does it get addressed? It does get addressed.' After the Yankees were swept four games in Toronto in early June, Boone met with players and told them they're still the best team in the league. Since, Cashman loaded up on bullpen arms before the July 31 trade deadline and nothing's changed. The Yankees were 4-8 in August hjeading into the weekend. Does Cashman believe the Yankees are the team to beat in the AL after getting to the World Series and losing last season with a lot of different players? 'We're gonna find out, right?' he responded 'I don't think anybody can say that until the season is over and somebody's hoisting the trophy. We're the defending American League champs trying to re-defend that. 'Obviously right now we're not in control of the division, so our first goal is to try to win the American League East and automatically punch the ticket that way. If not, we'll be fighting to punch a ticket a different way. 'And there's a lot of time on the clock, but not enough time at the same time. I don't want to misrepresentative that there's not urgency, because there is.' Then why all the losing? The Yankees had a seven-game lead in the AL East in early June and now are in danger of missing the playoffs. Cashman says the Yankees' predicament doesn't surprise him. 'No, because this is a very hard sport and nothing's taken for granted,' Cashman said. 'I know when it started, I looked at our division and I knew it would be a dog fight. And obviously the first third, or maybe even the first half of the season, that didn't look like that. It didn't play out that way. 'But you don't win anything in the first third of the first half. So as the season played out, it's played out as predicted that this would be a dog fight, and it is.' As for the timing of Cashman making a rare roadtrip, he says he's wanted to go to one and his schedule finally allowed for it to occur. 'Between the draft, the trade deadline, Cooperstown, every window that I've had try to get on the road, I had some other reason that I couldn't,' Cashman said.
