‘Bustling' Bromley named one of UK's ‘happiest' places to live
Bromley was named alongside fellow south London neighbourhoods Clapham Junction and Surbiton in The Guardian's list of the UK's 'happiest places to live in Britain'.
Bromley earned a spot on the list on account of its plethora of local green spaces, its 'bustling shopping centre' and links to the city.

Bromley – which has previously been named as London's best borough for working families by Making Moves in 2024, as well as one of the UK's best places to retire by the Telegraph in January this year – is a popular choice for those looking to have easy access to London.
Located on the fringes of London and Kent, Bromley is uniquely placed offering convenient links to the city by train from Bromley South, along with plenty of options for day trips to the countryside and Kent coastline.
But whilst Bromley may be one of London's suburbs it still offers plenty to do for after-work or weekend activities, from The Churchill Theatre which hosts a range of comedy shows, gigs and theatre performances, as well as ten-pin bowling and swimming at The Pavilion Leisure Centre.

One of the town's 'biggest advantages' is its multiple links to the Kent coast and London, with locals able to travel to the likes of Canterbury, Margate and Broadstairs or London Blackfriars and Victoria from Bromley South station.
Bromley is also home to many local greenspaces and parks, with nine holding the coveted Green Flag accreditation.

But aside from that, Church House Gardens just off the high street offers a tranquil spot to stop off for a picnic, with a lake, playground and an outdoor theatre space.

Bromley is also home to plenty of pubs, restaurants and bars like Copper Ceylon, an award-winning Bromley Sri Lankan restaurant with a broad plant-based menu, and The Barrel and Horn, with its selection of craft beers and music events.
According to Rightmove, house prices averaged at £574,779 over the last year, with the majority of properties sold in Bromley during the last year being flats.
Terraced properties sold for an average of £512,641, with semi-detached properties fetching £672,102.

Air Canada Reaps The Benefit Of The 'Trump Slump' In U.S. Travel
Recent data indicates that the United States is experiencing a sharp decline in international visitors in 2025. While the fall is seen from visitors flying in from many countries, including the U.K., it is particularly pronounced along the land border with Canada. Conversely, Canada's tourism industry has been flourishing, with many visitors opting for the country as an alternative to the U.S. According to a study by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the U.S. is the only country among 184 to project a decline in foreign visitor spending for 2025. This is in part likely due to several news stories reported worldwide of tourists being detained and deported after the new stricter immigration and travel policies. Potential visitors have cited a feeling of unease about visiting the US, even if they have all the correct paperwork. U.K. residents make up the largest number of overseas visitors to the U.S., with 3.9 million a year. In April 2025, The Guardian reported that the number of U.K. residents visiting the U.S. decreased by 14.3% in March 2025 compared to the same month in 2024. However, the WTTC projects Canada's travel and tourism sector will reach record levels this year, with a strong domestic market and a steady recovery in international travelers. Canadian travel overseas outside the U.S. has also seen an increase as well as domestic travel. August 2025 is projected to see the highest number of Europe to Canada flights on record equating to over 1.2 million seats. Flights between Europe and Canada are up 5% on August 2024 levels, while flights are also up 14% compared to pre-pandemic (August 2019) according to aviation analytics firm Cirium. Date: Dec 19, 2021 getty Canada's flag carrier, Air Canada, has spurred this market expansion, adding the highest number of Europe-Canada summer flights year-on-year. The airline has added an additional 112 flights from Europe to Canada this August versus the same period in 2024 - equating to over 34,500 extra one-way seats during the month. Air Canada's peak August schedule between Europe and Canada is 8% larger than August 2024. As well as increasing frequencies to established destinations, the airline has also introduced five new transatlantic routes: Edinburgh to Montréal Trudeau London Heathrow to Ottawa Naples to Montréal Trudeau Prague to Toronto-Pearson Porto to Montréal Trudeau 'Canada is seeing strong interest from travellers in our target overseas markets, especially from the UK. Guests from Europe and the UK are particularly attracted to Canada's awe-inspiring landscapes and culturally rich experiences, as well as the country's reputation of being safe and welcoming,' said Meaghan Ferrigno, Senior Vice President, CFO and Chief Data & Analytics Officer, Destination Canada. The United Kingdom has been Air Canada's top-performing European market this year, with travel interest from the U.K. to Canada remaining above historical levels. This is reflected in the 7% increase in air arrivals from the U.K. to Canada in June 2025 compared to the same time last year. Air Canada's refurbished Maple Leaf Lounge London Heathrow Airport. The lounge features a staffed bar for cocktails and drinks as well as showers. Travelers can also use the Star Alliance arrival lounge when arriving at Heathrow airport on Air Canada. The changes are part of a broader plan to improve the airline's lounges by adding nine new lounges, renovating eight, and increasing lounge capacity by 43 per cent. The first deliveries are expected in early 2026. With a focus on more premium seats, the aircraft will feature a new layout, which is likely to include a business plus product from the layouts shared at its investor day.

American Journalist Found Alive After Going Missing For Days
American journalist Alec Luhn has been found alive after going missing last week while on a solo hike on a Norwegian glacier. The Norwegian Red Cross said in a post on X that Luhn had been located by a helicopter crew on Wednesday and transported for medical treatment. Luhn, 38, had left for his hiking trip for Folgefonna National Park on July 31, but when he did not show up for his flight home five days later, his wife, journalist Veronika Silchenko, reported him missing. She described the rescue as a 'miracle' on Wednesday, telling CBS News that he had suffered a leg injury but was in good condition. 'I'm so grateful to all the people who were involved in the rescue," Silchenko said. "It's the best day of my life.' The Red Cross said a large team of volunteers, experienced climbers, and drones had been mobilized for the search. Earlier in the week, 'difficult terrain, poor visibility, rain and high water levels' had made the search difficult, but by Wednesday, they said the weather had improved, making helicopter use possible Luhn is an award-winning climate journalist who has written for international outlets such as TIME, The Atlantic, The Guardian, National Geographic, The New York Times, and WIRED. He has written extensively about Russia, having been a Russia correspondent for The Guardian for multiple years. Luhn is from Wisconsin, though he is now based in the United Kingdom. 'We were hoping for the best, and I knew he was experienced in the backcountry, but the longer time goes on in these situations you start to fear the worst,' Michael Downey, a friend of Luhn's, told TIME. 'It's a huge relief to hear he's alive and well—it's been a day of happy messages among friends celebrating the good news.'
