"This is a significant decision. The reservation will be applicable across categories - general, SC, ST, and OBC. If an Agniveer belongs to the SC category, the reservation will apply within SC; if OBC, then within OBC," he explained.

He added that special age relaxation of up to three years will also be provided to Agniveers applying for these posts.
There are four categories--constable police, constable PAC, mounted police and fireman --in which recruitment will be made.
The first batch of recruits under this system will come out in 2026, he said
"Several states and central forces have already taken initiative to provide reservation to Agniveers. States like Haryana and Odisha have offered 10 per cent reservation to former Agniveers. The
Uttar Pradesh
Cabinet has now approved 20 per cent horizontal reservation, which is a bold and generous initiative," Khanna said.
"This not only recognises their service but ensures they can continue contributing to the nation's security infrastructure after their military stint," he said.
The Centre introduced the Agnipath scheme in 2022 for short-term induction of personnel in the Army, Navy and Air Force with an aim to bring down the age profile of the three services. PTI

Possible tie-up between Thackeray cousins unlikely to hit BJP's poll prospects: Party survey
Mumbai: A possible alliance between Uddhav Thackeray 's Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray-led MNS is unlikely to affect the BJP 's poll prospects, a ruling party functionary has said citing an internal survey in view of the coming Mumbai civic body elections . The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun preparations for polls to the cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, as well as other major civic bodies including Pune and Thane, likely to be held later this year. Cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray have sparked speculation about a possible reconciliation with statements indicating they could ignore "trivial issues" and join hands nearly two decades after a bitter parting of ways. TradeWise Learn More Undo While the MNS chief has said uniting in the interests of Marathi manoos (Marathi speaking people) is not difficult, Uddhav Thackeray said he was ready to put aside trivial fights, provided those working against Maharashtra's interests were not entertained. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the MNS offered support to the BJP in Maharashtra, but six months later, both parties fought the state assembly polls separately. Live Events "In view of the political developments from the Thackeray cousins, the BJP undertook a detailed survey to evaluate the potential impact of a Uddhav-Raj alliance on Mumbai's electoral landscape," the BJP functionary said on Wednesday. According to findings of the internal assessment, their possible alliance is unlikely to dent BJP's prospects in the city, he said. The survey indicates that BJP retains a strong position in Mumbai owing to three key factors: the trust of its traditional voter base, the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah , and the party's robust performance in the last state assembly elections, the functionary said. "Even in areas with a traditional Marathi voter base, the BJP's support remains stable. The survey suggests that an alliance between the Thackeray brothers would not adversely affect the party's seat count," the functionary said. The assessment further indicates that after the split in the Shiv Sena in 2022, Uddhav Thackeray's influence in Mumbai has waned, with nearly half of the party's corporators having joined the Eknath Shinde faction. Raj Thackeray's influence, meanwhile, is seen as limited, he said. The BJP stands to gain if it contests 150 seats (out of total 227) in the BMC elections, the functionary said. The party's preparations are being aligned accordingly, the functionary added.

North Korea's Kim says he'll 'unconditionally support' Russia's war against Ukraine
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, right, shakes hands with Russian security council secretary Sergei Shoigu (AP) SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un told a visiting top Russian official that his country will "unconditionally support" Russia's war against Ukraine, the North's state media reported Thursday, the latest sign of expanding cooperation between the two nations. In April, the two countries officially confirmed North Korean troops' deployment to Russia for the first time, saying that soldiers of the two countries were fighting alongside each other to repel a Ukrainian incursion into Russia's Kursk border region. At the time, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked North Korea's participation in the war and promised not to forget their sacrifices. In a meeting with Russian security council secretary Sergei Shoigu in Pyongyang on Wednesday, Kim affirmed that North Korea will "unconditionally support the stand of Russia and its foreign policies in all the crucial international political issues including the Ukrainian issue," the official Korean Central News Agency said. The two discussed how to solidify strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia and reached a consensus on the Ukraine issue and other unspecified international situations, KCNA said. It didn't elaborate. Russia's state Tass news agency, citing the Russian security council's press service, reported that Shoigu and Kim also discussed prospects for rebuilding the Kursk region and outlined steps to commemorate the contribution made by North Korean soldiers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo Russia claimed in April 2025 that it had fully reclaimed the Kursk region, though Ukraine insists it still has troops present there. Ukraine's top army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reiterated Saturday that Ukrainian forces were still holding territory in Russia's Kursk region. Shoigu last visited North Korea in March for a meeting with Kim. North Korea and Russia haven't said how many North Korean troops are in Russia. But US, South Korean and Ukraine intelligence officials earlier said North Korea dispatched 10,000-12,000 troops to Russia last fall in its first participation in a major armed conflict since the 1950-53 Korean War. South Korean authorities recently said North Korea sent around 3,000 additional troops to Russia earlier this year. North Korea has been supplying a vast amount of conventional weapons to Russia as well. South Korean, US and their partners believe Russia has provided economic and military assistance to North Korea in return. They worry Russia might also transfer sophisticated technologies to help North Korea enhance its nuclear weapons program targeting its rivals.
