York entrepreneur launches eco-friendly mobile car valeting service
Kaizen Car Care promises a professional level of car care directly to people's driveways, and already has a dedicated customer base, including top local businesses in the York area.
Gareth said: 'I've always worked around vehicles, I've been cleaning them on and off for most of my life, starting with our family haulage business when I was young.
'When I got my first car, I kept it in great condition, which led to family, friends and neighbours asking me to clean their vehicles.

'I started a career in haulage but I never lost my interest in cars, having the privilege of owning and working on a diverse range of vehicles, from classic cars to high-powered luxury vehicles.'
During lockdown, Gareth started cleaning cars belonging to friends and family again, and soon found the high quality of his work was in demand.
He was then inspired to set up Kaizen – the name is a Japanese term meaning 'continuous improvement'.
'Cleaning cars has always been quite therapeutic for me - I can really lose myself washing and valeting a vehicle,' says Gareth.
'I put my headphones in, and three or four hours will soon pass.'
Gareth has since gained a wide range of qualifications and accreditations, including recently becoming an official brand ambassador for sustainable car care company, Mile Deep. Its range of eco-friendly products are biodegradable and cruelty-free.
Kaizen has also been awarded Plastic Free champion status. And Gareth is working towards gaining more eco-friendly accreditations.
Meanwhile, Kaizen's branded workwear uses 35% recycled plastic bottles and Gareth avoids the use of harsh chemicals whenever possible.
Gareth says: 'I'm a big believer in the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement, which is precisely what Kaizen stands for.
"I understand the desire for that pristine 'like new' feeling every time you step into your car. I'm proud to be York's only IDA (international Detailing Association) Certified and Skills verified Detailer.
"I'm also fully insured, I only use high-quality products and provide a premium level of work – I aim to restore any car to its former glory.'
Kaizen covers a 30-mile radius of York, with packages ranging from interior cleaning to ceramic coatings.
Kaizen Car Care also offers a monthly maintenance scheme to keep your vehicle always looking in a pristine condition.
Gareth also caters for business fleet cleans, including vans, cars and 4x4's, keeping brands looking fabulous.
Gareth continued: 'I'm committed to offering a friendly and reliable service with a high attention to detail. If you invest in a professional valet, it can really breathe new life into a vehicle's appearance.'
Kaizen will also be a stall holder at this year's York Pride, with a variety of activities, games and prizes planned.
This includes a charity raffle to raise funds for MySight York, a local charity supporting people with sight loss, where people can win gift vouchers of between £25 and £100 to spend on a car clean with Kaizen.
Meanwhile, there will be plenty of treats for the four-legged visitors, including free natural dog snacks, which have been donated by a local company, plus bowls of drinking water.
Gareth added: 'I'm really proud to have our first stall at Pride this year. If you're attending the event at the Knavesmire on 7th June, please come over to the stand to say hello. We provide a welcoming environment and a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community.
'I'm looking forward to the day - and being able to answer any questions about eco-friendly, cruelty-free car care.'

This Iconic Japanese Sports Car Just Got a Big Tech Upgrade
Acura treats its best-selling compact sports sedan to fresh aero, a new display and a refined interior. Every product is carefully selected by our editors. If you buy from a link, we may earn a commission. Learn more After Acura shelved the Integra in 2002, it would be another 21 years before the nameplate would see the market again. Suffice to say, then, that when the Integra did finally reappear in 2023, the release provided Japanese sports car enthusiasts with plenty of cause for celebration. It may have only been two years since the revival of the Integra, but Acura is already prepared to observe yet another significant milestone. Believe it or not, 2026 will mark the 40th anniversary of the first generation's 1986 debut. To ring in the occasion, Acura has announced a slew of updates for the upcoming model year. Along with improved tech, the 2026 Integra will also introduce sportier styling, new colors and premium interior options. Smarter and faster Per Acura, the Integra currently commands over 40 percent of premium compact sedan sales, so it's clear that the model's nostalgia is helping its success — even despite the presence of two additional doors. For 2026, Acura hopes to capitalize on that success by giving its iconic sports car a big tech upgrade in the form of a new 9-inch color touchscreen. Along with being two inches larger than the outgoing display, Acura says it brings 'a faster processor for lag-free performance.' As part of the new infotainment interface, the Integra will also benefit from wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Moreover, Acura has fitted the center console with a wireless phone charger to provide for a cleaner cockpit experience. Updated aero looks Though the Integra's styling remains largely unchanged compared to the 2025 model year, Acura hasn't forgotten about the exterior. As part of the update, the upcoming model will introduce several key visual tweaks. For starters, the Integra A-Spec gains a fresh aero body kit. Between the gloss black side spoilers, some sleek new side sills and a set of gloss black 18-inch wheels, it makes for a much more aggressive look that Acura calls both 'premium' and 'aspirational.' What's more, the Integra gains new color options in the form of Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Gray Pearl and Double Apex Blue Pearl, and cars optioned in either Double Apex Blue Pearl or Performance Red Pearl will come with a paint-matched grille as standard. If you're a fan of the look, the feature will be available as an add-on for other colors, too, though buyers will also be able to specify a gloss-black grille for something a little subtler. And that's not all; as part of the overhauled interior, Acura is treating the Integra A-Spec to a new trim pattern on the dash as well as some extended ambient lighting. Complemented by some new suede inserts and stitching options, it makes for a refresh that's subtle in execution but impactful in result. Familiar fan favorite Under the hood, the 2026 Integra will retain the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as is found in the current model. Though Acura equips a CVT automatic transmission as standard, buyers will again have the option of a six-speed manual. In practice, this means that output is a consistent 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque for the base and A-Spec models. At this stage, Acura has yet to announce full specifications for the 2026 Integra lineup. Most notably, there's no mention of what MSRP is set to look like, and the 320-horsepower Integra Type S is conspicuously absent from the announcement Whether that means Acura has something bigger waiting in the wings remains to be seen. However, given that the 2026 Integra is slated to arrive in showrooms next month, pricing and further details should be available soon. 2026 Acura Integra Learn More

Bessent says BOJ is 'behind the curve' on inflation, likely to hike rates, in Bloomberg interview
TOKYO (Reuters) -The Bank of Japan will likely be raising interest rates as it is behind the curve in dealing with the risk of inflation, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Bloomberg Television, in his most explicit comment on Japan's monetary policy. The remarks contrast with those of BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda, who has repeatedly brushed aside the view the central bank was being too slow in raising rates and could be late in forestalling too-high inflation. Bessent said U.S. Treasury yields are feeling the impact of overseas developments, with the 30-year yield getting dragged up by rising long-term bond yields in Japan and Germany. "There's definitely leakage from — the Japanese have an inflation problem," Bessent said in the interview with Bloomberg Television on Wednesday. Bessent mentioned that he had spoken with BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda. "My opinion, not his — they're behind the curve. So they're going to be hiking," he added, though he made no comment on how soon a rate hike could come. The comments by Bessent come as rising food and raw material costs keep Japan's core inflation above the central bank's 2% target for well over three years, causing some BOJ policymakers to worry about second-round price effects. Governor Ueda has signalled readiness to keep raising rates but justified going slow on the view that "underlying inflation," which focuses on domestic demand and wages, remains short of the BOJ's target. The slow pace of the BOJ's policy normalisation has been blamed by some analysts for the yen's persistent weakness, which in turn has pushed up the cost of imports and broader inflation. The BOJ next meets for a rate review in September before holding another one in October, when the board conducts a quarterly review of its growth and inflation forecasts. Bessent, who oversees Washington's trade and exchange-rate talks with Tokyo, has repeatedly signalled his preference for tighter Japanese monetary policy. In its exchange-rate report to Congress in June, the U.S. Treasury Department said the BOJ should keep tightening monetary policy, which would support a "normalization of the yen's weakness." In an interview with the Nikkei newspaper published on Monday, Bessent said the currency "will take care of itself" as long as the BOJ focused on "economic fundamentals, inflation and growth." The BOJ last year exited a decade-long, massive stimulus programme and raised short-term interest rates to 0.5% in January on the view Japan was close to durably hitting its 2% inflation target.
