Chinese Trina Storage completes Egypt 1st utility-scale solar facility in Aswan - Energy
Trina Storage, a subsidiary of global solar giant Trinasolar, announced on Tuesday the completion of a 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Aswan Governorate, Egypt's first integrated solar and battery storage facility, according to a statement by the Chinese company shared with Ahram Online. The project, developed in partnership with Dubai-based AMEA Power, was delivered in just 60 days, ahead of its scheduled commercial operation date. It set a new regional benchmark for large-scale energy storage deployment across North Africa. The newly commissioned BESS is co-located with AMEA Power's 500 MW solar PV plant, which began operations in December 2024. The combined facility is expected to enhance the resilience of Egypt's national electricity grid and ensure reliable solar power delivery beyond daylight hours. 'Faced with high desert temperatures and a complex grid environment, we successfully completed the project — from installation to grid connection — in just two months,' said Vincent Wu, Global Sales vice president and MEA MU head at Trinasolar. 'This achievement demonstrates not only our technological capabilities but also our commitment to fast and reliable project execution in support of Egypt's energy stability,' he added. The energy storage system, built on Trina Storage's advanced Elementa 2 platform, includes in-house-manufactured LFP battery cells and a full-stack solution from DC compartments to the AC interface, enabling direct connection to the national grid. The system is tailored for harsh desert climates, boasting high energy density, modular design, liquid cooling, and safety-driven engineering. Chairman of AMEA Power Hussain Al Nowais described the facility as a 'landmark' for Egypt's renewable energy ambitions. 'We are proud to bring this project online, which significantly strengthens the resilience of Egypt's power grid,' Al Nowais said. 'This milestone reaffirms our commitment to innovation and sustainability in Egypt and across the African continent.' According to the statement, the rapid delivery was made possible through close coordination between Trina Storage's global technical teams and local partners, as well as early-stage customization to adapt to the local environment. The project is part of Egypt's broader Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to generate 42 percent of the country's electricity from renewable sources by 2035. The integration of large-scale energy storage is seen as a key enabler for this goal, allowing for greater flexibility and reliability as renewables are added to the grid. EGA and ENEC deliver first aluminium produced with carbon-free nuclear energy - Middle East Business News and Information
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates,August 2025: Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest 'premium aluminium' producer in the world, and Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) today announced the UAE's first delivery of low-carbon aluminium using electricity generated at Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, UAE. EGA is marketing this type of low-carbon aluminium under the product brand MinimAL. The metal will be supplied to CANEX Aluminum, Egypt's leading aluminium downstream producer. EGA's new product positions the UAE as a reliable supplier of low-carbon industrial materials to global markets and expands EGA's low-carbon metal portfolio for our local and global customers. Generating the electricity required for aluminium smelting and production accounts for around 60 per cent of the global aluminium industry's greenhouse gas emissions. ENEC's Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant provides access to abundant clean electricity 24/7 from nuclear energy which is essential for decarbonising the UAE's industrial sector. Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: 'Global demand for low carbon aluminium is expected to triple by 2040, and EGA aims to play an important role in this growth. MinimAL is our latest low-carbon product, made possible through the UAE's investment in nuclear power generation. We are glad to be working with ENEC to supply more low carbon aluminium to the world.' His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, said: 'This milestone shows how nuclear energy is boosting national energy security and enabling the UAE's industrial decarbonisation in parallel, reliably powering energy-intensive sectors like aluminium production with clean electricity 24/7. Through the abundant electricity generated at Barakah, we have unlocked the significant, proven and long-term benefits of nuclear energy to power the UAE's low-carbon economy for decades to come.' CANEX Aluminum is the first customer to use EGA's MinimAL to produce advanced products for infrastructure, solar energy, transportation, and architectural applications. Mutassem Daaboul, Managing Director of CANEX Aluminum, said: 'At CANEX, we believe true sustainability is built into every layer of production—from the raw material to the final product. Our upcycling model already transforms waste into value-added products. Now, with MinimAL, we are taking another step forward by reducing embedded emissions at the very beginning of our process. This partnership with EGA reflects our shared commitment to responsible innovation.' The clean electricity is certified through the UAE's Clean Energy Certification programme using International REC Standard (I-REC) protocols to ensure traceability and credibility. The power is supplied through Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) via the national grid. The Barakah plant generates 40 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, which is around 25 per cent of the UAE's electricity needs, and equivalent to the annual total power demand of Switzerland. Carbon-free electricity from Barakah avoids 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to removing 4.8 million cars from the road. EGA was the first company globally to produce aluminium using solar power, with 80 thousand tonnes of CelestiAL made in 2024. EGA also produces recycled aluminium, marketed under the product brand RevivAL, at its plants in the United States and Germany. In the UAE, EGA is building the UAE's largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah. The facility is expected to start production in the first half of 2026.

Amid the vast expanse of the Gobi Desert in Jinta, Gansu Province, rows of solar panels are transforming once-hostile sands into a thriving 'blue ocean' of green energy, for which Trinasolar supplied 100MW of high-performance Vertex series modules to this project, helping drive both energy output and environmental renewal. These features lower the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), while ensuring stable energy yield despite harsh environmental challenges like drought and sandstorms. The plant site benefits from about 3,200 hours of usable sunshine annually, thus making it an ideal place for photovoltaic development. Now operating at full capacity, this 500MW project generates about 736.5 million kWh of electricity annually, saving approximately 300,000 tons of standard coal, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 800,000 tons, and cutting particulate matter emissions by nearly 4,000 tons. Besides, PV panels can help mitigate land degradation by lowering surface temperatures, reducing water evaporation, and mitigate wind and sand erosion. 'This project goes beyond energy generation—it exemplifies how solar power can actively restore degraded land,' said Cao Yunduan, Head of Global Branding and Marketing at Trinasolar. 'It stands as a compelling testament to the successful integration of ecological preservation and sustainable energy.' Drawing on its high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, Trinasolar has established itself as a highly reliable manufacturer.
