RTE star Daithi O Se's secret to boosting confidence before turning 50

RTE star Daithi O Se has said turning 50 with a new head of hair has given him a huge confidence boost. The Today Show presenter is gearing up to co-host this year's Rose of Tralee next week with Kathryn Thomas.
Around two years ago, Daithi underwent a 'hair restoration procedure' at the Bon Secours Hospital's Cosmetic and Hair Restoration Clinic in Tralee, Co Kerry at the end of 2022. And as he approaches his 50th birthday next year, the Kerry star it's giving him a huge confidence boost.
He said: 'I'm 50 next year and it has been a huge confidence boost," he says of his hair which arrived over two years ago. "I have two brothers, and they have fine heads of hair and neither of them on TV. But sure, isn't that always the way?"
Three months after he had the procedure, he shared at the time that he was 'absolutely delighted' and 'looking younger apparently' as he filmed his new hairline coming along nicely.
He revisited the clinic to mark the one-year anniversary of his procedure, telling fans he could see a 'big change in one year' and adding that he was 'delighted with the results'.
But he said turning 50 isn't a big deal. "Not really. But I want to get healthier and fitter, make it easier for myself physically,' he told the RTE Guide. RTE stars Kathryn Thomas set to co-host Rose of Tralee festival with Daithi O Se (Image: RTE)
There's the possibility of a party for the big day if only to meet up with family and friends. "Outside of work, the only few times I've been home to Dingle in recent times were for funerals, so why not a party."
This year, Daithi's wife Rita and their son Michel Og will be in the Dome for both televised shows, a first for his son. "He has a velvet tux for the occasion, is getting his hair cut today and is very excited about going to the show which he watched on TV last year."
Daithi also revealed that he went back to college last year and now has a diploma in coaching and mentoring.
"I focused on conflict management, and it has helped me big time. I'm non-confrontational so people see that as a weakness. So, you must show them it is in fact a strength. People are looking to be happy, but really, it's all about being content."

Kerry Rose of Tralee opens up about strict rules to ‘safeguard' young women

The Kerry Rose of Tralee has opened up about the festival's strict rules to 'safeguard' young women. Laura Daly, from Ballymacelligott, is hoping to take the crown back to the Kingdom. But the 23-year-old has revealed what goes on behind the scenes to keep all 32 Roses looking so fresh for the Rose of Tralee, which will be hosted by Kathryn Thomas and Dáithí Ó Sé. She told the Irish Mirror: 'There's a mixture of things. But you know what, they're put in place in a sense that keeps us safe, keeps us well, keeps us going, because it is a very long process. 'People are tired. You're being pulled for pictures, you're being pulled for interviews. You're with the girls. You're trying to get to know 32 new people, not to mind your chaperone team, not to mind everybody who awaits you when you come down to Tralee as well. 'But when it comes to curfews, even last night, we had a gala up in Co Meath in the Knightsbrook Hotel and there was a few of us looking at our chaperone saying, 'When is it bedtime?' Tyrone Rose Clóideach Donagh, Boston and New England Rose Maeve Kelly, Kerry Rose Laura Daly, Texas Rose Sara Costa, Carlow Rose Katie Ryan, Down Rose Anna Mulholland, Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins and Meath Rose Ella Bannon (Image: Domnick Walsh © Eye Focus LTD) 'Like, we need bedtime. We want to shower. We need to pack suitcases. It's just to have our best interests at heart. Like, the biggest thing is we have a briefing every night, which basically is time keeping is the biggest one, really, if you're not on time, because it's all different wheels that are put in motion if one thing comes out, but to see the inner workings of this festival from this side of things. 'I would always say that from being involved, you think you know what the festival is, but I've just seen it in a brand new light this year. And you, you really get to see the inner workings of how the Roses, who are, I guess, who are at the centre of this festival, they need to be kept going. 'They need to make sure that they all have a voice come Monday and Tuesday night, nobody's getting sick, everybody's happy and in a good, safe head space, and everybody's feeling supported. 'So these rules, I guess people see them as rules, but when you're in it, you know why you need it. It's the same way as we're told to eat healthy, the same way as we're told to exercise, like all these things, like, when it comes to the rules, whether it's at bedtime, whether it's, you know, don't drink too much.' This year's festival takes place in Tralee tomorrow and Tuesday from 8pm. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here. Champion boxer Barry McGuigan tipped for this season's Living With Lucy

Champion boxer Barry McGuigan could be set to sign up to this season's Living With Lucy. The former I'm A Celebrity star is on the Classic Hit's host's list of celebrities she would love to live with this season, which airs on Virgin Media in October. An insider revealed Adare Productions – the company who produce Living With Lucy – are hoping Barry McGuigan signs up to take part in the show this year. A source: 'The team at Living With Lucy are still filming and we're hoping to get Barry on board to do the show this year.' Barry and Lucy Kennedy co-hosted the RTE reality show Charity Lords of the Ring in 2009. The show followed 10 celebrities as they trained for and participated in boxing matches to raise money for charity. McGuigan, 64, provided his expertise, while Kennedy presented the show. (Image: ITV/REX/Shutterstock) That year, McGuigan praised the Dublin host, saying Lucy, who was pregnant at the time, was 'a dream to work with'. He wrote in the Irish Independent's celebrity diary at the time: 'Lucy Kennedy has been a dream to work with. She's just a lovely, beautiful woman, full of life and energy. 'I wasn't at all worried that she might go into labour on set, sure I'm a father-of-four myself, so I'm pretty experienced when it comes to the delivery of babies.' It comes after Lucy accidentally revealed on her social media that Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Caitlyn Jenner, 75, will be taking part on the show. The Sunday World previously revealed Lucy posted a picture of a swimming pool on her Instagram stories, and a reverse image showed it was the star's Malibu home. Kind hearted Kathryn rescues tiny kitten

Caring TV Presenter and Rose of Tralee co-host Kathryn Thomas came to the aid of a tiny, terrified kitten on a roundabout in County Kerry yesterday. (Friday) The tiny cat was stranded on the road into Tralee, as Kathryn described with 'cars literally driving over her'. The kitten couldn't move, and it's believed her back legs were broken. On a post on the Facebook page, and writing on her social media pages Kathryn detailed what happened and said, she stopped the car and picked up the injured kitten and took her to the Abbey Veterinary Centre on Church Street in Tralee where vet Deirdre Cremins is now looking after the lucky puss. PIC – Facebook page Before leaving the veterinary surgery, Kathryn and Deirdre decided the most appropriate name for the injured kitten was, what else, but Rose. Kathryn, who will co-host the Rose of Tralee with Daithí O'Shea on Monday and Tuesday nights, revealed that the terrrified little cat piddled all over her festival notes while travelling to the vets on the back seat of Kathryns car, but I'm sure saving the poor little mite was to the forefront of Kathryns mind.
