KTMB Leads Digital Transformation In Public Transport With KITS Style SuperApp
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the rebranding was more than just a ticketing platform, as the KITS Style SuperApp also served as a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) application that integrated daily mobility and lifestyle within a modern, interactive and fully digital ecosystem.
'KITS Style offers a variety of services, such as purchasing ETS, KTM Komuter and Shuttle Tebrau tickets, booking flights and hotels, paying utility bills, renewing vehicle insurance, transferring money, shopping online and planning trips via the KITS AI Journey Planner,' he said in his speech at the launch of the KITS Style application here tonight.
KITS is an online ticketing system introduced on Aug 17, 2020.
Loke said the KITS Style application was developed through a strategic collaboration between KTMB and ManagePay Systems Berhad (MPay) as a dynamic digital platform.
'This application was developed through a smart partnership, without KTMB incurring any costs or requiring government allocations.
'This is a good example of a government agency leveraging strategic collaboration with the private sector to implement complex digital projects that bring huge benefits to the people,' he said.
Loke also said KTMB, in collaboration with Mastercard and ManagePay Systems Berhad (MPay), was preparing to launch the KITS Style Mastercard Prepaid Card, the first open-loop transit prepaid card in Malaysia and ASEAN issued by a rail operator.
'The virtual version of this card is already available via the KITS Style application, while the physical card will be introduced in September. With this, the public will not only be able to access public transport within the country but also across ASEAN more conveniently and securely,' he said.

Final railway scheme for MRT3 approved, paving way for next phase
MALAYSIA Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) announced yesterday that the Final Railway Scheme for the MRT3 Circle Line has been formally approved by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. 'This came about eight months after the three-month public inspection exercise ended on 2nd December 2024. Over 45,000 of written feedback were received, with 93.3% expressing support for the mega rail project,' said MBSB. Among the main changes following the exercise was a -31.8% reduction in the number of lands lots required for acquisition, down from 1,012 to 690. This is slightly behind the initial schedule, where the Final Railway Scheme was expected to be approved by quarter four of calendar year 2024 (4QCY24), nevertheless, it is still a positive as this marks a step forward for the mega rail project. MRT Corp expects the land acquisition process to be completed by end-CY26, which will then pave way for construction to begin. We also do not discount the possibility that the land acquisition process may take slightly longer than expected. Notices for landowners to vacate the acquired lands should be issued starting 1QCY26, where they will be given up to six months to vacate. Recall that MRT Corp had previously sought for four extensions for the tender validity of MRT3. No extensions were sought after the fourth extension ended in Mar-24, which would mean that the tenders have naturally lapsed. We believe there would also be some changes to the original alignment of the project and the placement of stations, considering the reduction in plots of land for acquisition. We expect a re-tender exercise to be called by mid-CY26, and contracts to be awarded towards the end of the land acquisition exercise, which will likely be by end-CY26 to mid-CY27. The MRT3 Circle Line is a 51km orbital alignment that will serve the perimeter of Kuala Lumpur. It is designed for full integration with the existing MRT, LRT, KTM, and Monorail lines and will feature 10 interchange stations. The alignment is expected to be 39km elevated and 12km underground, with 22 elevated stations, seven underground stations, and three future stations. Back in 2023, the Government sought for a 10% reduction in the price tag for MRT3. When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim retabled Budget 2023 in Feb-23, he expressed the Government's confident in cutting the MRT cost to under RM45b from RM50b previously. Construction cost will make up the bulk of the amount, expected to be around RM31.0 bil. Land acquisition cost may come up to RM6.0 to RM7.0 bil, with the remainder for project management and financing costs. The initial funding mechanism for MRT3 was planned to be a hybrid financing model where successful bidders of the contracts fund the initial two years of construction works worth at least 10% of the contract value and a minimum moratorium period of two years and will be reimbursed by the Government through deferred payments. Following that, news reports have also surfaced that the funding model would revert to debt issuances by DanaInfra Nasional in order to reduce the Government's financing cost. We are positive on the latest developments, which now provides more clarity that the MRT3 mega project is starting to take a step forward. This strengthens our optimism for the Construction sector; hence we maintain our positive recommendation. Construction of MRT3 may begin in CY27, which will keep contractors busy possibly up to 2033. This will be a timely continuation of projects following the expected completion of the Johor-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) by end-CY26. —July 18, 2025 Main image:

MRT3 Circle Line gets Final Railway Scheme approval
MRT Corp said the approval followed a public inspection exercise held from Sept 2 to Dec 2, 2024. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has announced that the Final Railway Scheme for the MRT3 Circle Line has been formally approved and signed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. MRT Corp said the approval followed a public inspection exercise held from Sept 2 to Dec 2, 2024, during which it received over 45,000 written responses. 'An overwhelming 93.3% of the feedback expressed support for the project, reflecting strong public and stakeholder endorsement,' it said in a statement. The MRT3 Circle Line is a 51-km orbital alignment that will serve the perimeter of Kuala Lumpur, fully integrated with 10 strategically located interchange stations to enable seamless bidirectional travel across the Klang Valley. Several improvements have been made to the placement of stations and viaducts along the project's alignment, as well as to the design of the MRT3 Circle Line's rail system, according to MRT Corp. In addition, the number of land lots required for acquisition has been reduced from 1,012 to 690, minimising the impact on affected communities. 'With today's approval, the land acquisition process can now commence and is targeted for completion by the end of 2026. 'MRT Corp will be reaching out to the affected communities and updating them on the improvements made in their respective areas,' it added. — Bernama

Rapid Bus revs up minibus services
KUALA LUMPUR: Diesel-powered minibuses are among the latest additions to Rapid Bus' fleet serving the Klang Valley and Penang, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced. A total of 310 diesel buses will be deployed on selected high-demand routes to improve service frequency, he said. This will also be the final batch of diesel-powered buses purchased by Prasarana in line with the government's commitment to transitioning towards more environmentally friendly transport systems, Loke added. 'As the country's main public transport operator, Prasarana has played a key role in delivering safe, efficient and reliable bus and train services. 'The diesel bus programme forms part of Prasarana's long-term strategic plan to enhance its assets and strengthen operational capabilities,' he said during the unveiling ceremony of Rapid KL and Rapid Penang's diesel buses here yesterday. While manufactured by the Chinese company Higer, the components for the new buses are assembled locally in Johor. Loke said this supports technology transfer and the development of Malaysia's automotive sector. Fleet expansion: Loke (left) launching the new Rapid Bus diesel fleet. 'This new fleet will help improve air quality, particularly in urban areas,' he said. Of the 310 units, 200 are 9-metre minibuses designed to serve residential areas that are less accessible to standard-sized buses. Of these, 70 will be allocated to Penang to further enhance first- and last-mile connectivity. Looking ahead, Loke said electric buses are expected to be introduced by next year, with the tender process for their procurement already concluded. 'We are in the process of appointing a vendor. 'Delivery of the electric buses is expected to take around 12 months,' he said, adding that one of the tender requirements is for the buses to be assembled locally under a completely knocked-down model. While foreign manufacturers are allowed to bid, successful tenderers must have local partners or be locally incorporated entities, Loke noted. Separately, he revealed that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd's (KTMB) passenger services have yet to reach break-even. However, he pointed out that the government-linked company's freight services are generating profits. 'There is indeed a shortfall in operational spending. In terms of operations, we have not yet reached profitability or the break-even point,' he said, adding that the government continues to provide a funding gap allocation to KTMB to support operational costs. In 2023, KTMB earned RM112mil from cargo operations, accounting for nearly a quarter of its total revenue.
