Govt launches 'Cashless Treatment Scheme-2025' for road accident victims during golden hour

India Gazette4 hours ago

Agartala (Tripura) [India] June 18 (ANI): In a landmark move towards strengthening road safety and emergency healthcare, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), with the active support of the National Health Mission, has officially launched the 'Cashless Treatment Scheme-2025.' This ambitious initiative, rolled out under Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, promises free, cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh for road accident victims during the critical 'Golden Hour'.
The scheme, which was launched on May 5, 2025, promises to cover free treatment costs up to Rs 1.5 lakh for up to 7 days in designated hospitals. Any road accident victim brought to a hospital within 24 hours of the incident qualifies for the benefits. Even if a victim is taken to a non-designated hospital, initial stabilisation expenses will still be covered under the scheme, ensuring no delay in emergency care.
Anyone--including family members, Good Samaritans, police, ambulance staff, co-passengers, or even the driver--can bring the injured to a hospital. The focus is on saving lives, not bureaucracy.
The government has put in place a robust implementation structure, with a 10-member Steering Committee at the national level chaired by the MoRTH Secretary, State Road Safety Councils chaired by respective State Transport Ministers, and District Road Safety Committees at the district level, led by the District Magistrates, will ensure on-ground execution. The scheme will be managed through the TMS online portal, which will handle treatment coordination, real-time data reporting, claim verification, payment processing, and grievance redressal.
Payments to hospitals must be made within 10 days of approval. Claims are verified by State Health Agencies and funded via the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, with contributions from the Central Government and General Insurance Companies.
In addition to the cashless treatment scheme, the government has also reinforced the Hit and Run Motor Accident Compensation Scheme, 2022. Under this scheme, victims or their families will be eligible for compensation of up to 2 lakh in case of death and 50,000 in case of grievous injury.
Each district has a Hit-and-Run Committee, chaired by the District Magistrate, to ensure timely claim settlement.
To claim compensation, victims or their families will need to report the accident to the police, submit treatment records, ID proof, and bank details, and file an application with the Claim Inquiry Officer. Claims will be processed within a month, and payouts will be made within 15 days of verification.
In case of a road accident or hit and run:- Call 112- Do not panic- Help the injured- Note vehicle details, if possible- Call for an ambulance
Awareness and timely action can save lives. This scheme reflects the government's unwavering commitment to building safer roads and stronger emergency systems for every citizen.' The public is urged to share this life-saving information and act responsibly in road emergencies. With this scheme, India takes a giant leap toward responsive and inclusive road safety. (ANI)

Justice League: Telangana HC quashes poll code violation case against Bandi

Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday quashed criminal proceedings pending before the Judicial First Class Magistrate at Miryalaguda against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar in connection with an alleged violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) during the 2021 MLC elections. The case stemmed from a complaint lodged on November 15, 2021 by Mandal Parishad Development Officer and in-charge of the MCC enforcement team in Miryalaguda mandal Garlapati Jyothi Laxmi. According to her complaint, around 5.30 pm on November 15, Sanjay and a convoy of approximately 40 vehicles were proceeding from Miryalaguda to Suryapeta, without the required permission from the Returning Officer. When the convoy reached Yadgarpally, it was allegedly obstructed by BRS leader Amaravath Saidulu and around 60 of his followers. Jyothi Laxmi, in her complaint, sought legal action against both Sanjay and Saidulu as well as their followers. Bandi, however, denied any wrongdoing and approached the high court seeking quashing of the proceedings. No relief to MLA in extortion case Justice Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday refused to grant interim relief to Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in an anticipatory bail petition filed by him in connection with an extortion case registered at the Subedari police station, Hanamkonda. The court directed the police to file a counter affidavit and adjourned the hearing to June 24. Kaushik's counsel TV Ramana Rao urged the court to grant his client interim protection from arrest until the next hearing. But the HC said it was not possible at this stage. The case stems from a complaint filed by Uma Devi, wife of quarry owner Manoj of Gundededu village, Hanamkonda district, alleging that the MLA demanded Rs 50 lakh from her husband. Based on her complaint, Subedari police registered an FIR against Kaushik. Challenging the FIR, the MLA approached the high court seeking quashing of the case.

Two Andhra farmers die by suicide due to mounting debt

GUNTUR: In a span of 24 hours, two tenant farmers from Nadendla mandal in Palnadu district died by suicide, allegedly driven by mounting debts and pressure from private moneylenders. Siriboyina Gopala Rao (42), of Tubadu village, consumed pesticide early Tuesday on his farmland. He had leased eight acres for black burley tobacco cultivation, incurring debts over Rs 10 lakh. Though he harvested 120 quintals of tobacco, only 50 quintals had been sold. Following pressure from lenders on June 16 to repay immediately, he took the drastic step and died at Chilakaluripeta hospital around 3.30 am. In a separate incident, Nasam Adinarayana (45) of Nadendla village consumed weedicide late Monday night. He had leased 27 acres and grew cotton, chillies, and tobacco. Despite selling cotton and chillies, 70 quintals of unsold tobacco left him financially burdened. With a debt exceeding Rs 25 lakh, he went missing on June 16 night and was found dead at his farm on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday, Agriculture Commissioner and Director S Delhi Rao, Palnadu District Collector P Arun Babu, and other senior officials visited the bereaved families in both villages. Revenue officials have initiated formal inquiries. Village- and mandal-level committees will submit detailed reports. The twin tragedies underscore the fragile condition of tenant farmers, highlighting their dependence on informal credit and the need for institutional support and intervention to prevent such heartbreaking outcomes.
