Chery Malaysia donates RM50k to KWASN for sports development

The Sun11-07-2025
CHERY Malaysia, an automotive manufacturer, has contributed RM50,000 to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN), reflecting the corporate sector's continuous support for national sports development.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) stated that they appreciate the contribution, which was announced during the launch of the Chery Tiggo Cross last Wednesday.
Adding to this, Chery Malaysia will also contribute a portion of the profits from the sale of the Chery Tiggo Cross model to KWASN, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to KBS's efforts in promoting and developing sports, aligning with the National Sports Vision 2030.
'Chery Malaysia has gifted cars to Malaysian athletes who won medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Strategic collaborations between the government and private sectors like this not only have the potential to elevate national sports performance to a higher level but also serve as an appreciation for athletes who have brought glory to the country on the world stage,' according to a KBS statement today.
KBS also encourages more companies and corporate entities to contribute to KWASN or any sports development initiatives, whether in the form of sponsorship, financial contributions, or collaboration in talent development programs.
KWASN is a trust fund open to the public, aiming to provide grants for organising sports activities at national and international levels, including athlete participation, specifically to help improve the ranking of national athletes. - Bernama

MACC cripples tobacco smuggling syndicates

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has crippled a tobacco and cigar smuggling syndicate believed to have caused more than RM250mil in tax revenue losses between 2020 and 2024. The operation, codenamed Op Sikaro, was carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Special Operations Division with the cooperation of the Inland Revenue Board, Bank Negara Malaysia and the Customs Department. Raids were conducted at 14 locations across the Klang Valley and Johor on Tuesday (Aug 19). According to sources, enforcement teams targeted business premises and company owners involved in the tobacco, cigar and liquor distribution trade. "Following the raids, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission froze personal and company bank accounts amounting to RM218mil," the source said. Customs also suspended the import licences of several companies identified as being part of the smuggling network pending further investigations. It is believed that the syndicate had the cooperation of certain enforcement officers. Investigations will also focus on tracing and seizing assets acquired through money laundering activities. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin confirmed the raids. He said investigations are being conducted under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. "The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will not compromise with any parties seeking to profit through corruption, money laundering and smuggling, which cause huge losses to the country," he said.

RHB rolls out Malaysia's first flexi redraw vehicle financing plan

KUALA LUMPUR: RHB Banking Group has launched the RHB Vehicle Financing-i (Variable Rate) Flexi Redraw, a first-of-its-kind offering in Malaysia that provides motorists with greater flexibility in managing their car financing commitments. The new product comes at a time when Malaysians are grappling with fluctuating living costs and dynamic interest and profit rate environments, with demand growing for financial solutions that provide adaptability in long-term commitments such as vehicle loans and financing. Unlike traditional vehicle financing that often locks consumers into fixed monthly instalments with little room for cost reduction or access to liquidity, the Flexi Redraw introduces a more responsive mechanism. At its core, the product allows hirers to make additional payments beyond scheduled instalments, directly reducing profit charges on the outstanding financing amount. This creates an opportunity for borrowers to lower their total financing cost over the tenure, a departure from standard fixed-payment structures. The "Flexi Redraw" element adds further agility by enabling customers to withdraw accumulated excess payments when the need arises. This feature provides an integrated liquidity buffer within the financing arrangement, reducing reliance on alternative and often costlier short-term borrowing during financial exigencies. RHB Banking Group managing director of group community banking Jeffrey Ng Eow Oo said consumers are increasingly seeking financial solutions that offer both savings and flexibility. "Our latest financing enhancement is designed to help our customers take control of their financial future by reducing overall costs while ensuring they have access to additional funds when needed," he added. Meanwhile, in partnership with Volvo Car Malaysia, the Flexi Redraw is also available under Volvo Car Financial Services, offering buyers an additional financing option for their new Volvo cars. Volvo Car Malaysia sales director Chris Tan said the company is grateful to have RHB Banking Group as its long-standing financing partner for Volvo Car Financial Services, whose products have given its customers the flexibility of variable rates. "The new Flexi Redraw option is an excellent value-add for customers seeking the safety, luxury, comfort and performance of our latest electrified cars without compromising their financial security," he said. The financing facility is open to individuals aged 18 to 65 as well as businesses, covering new, unregistered, reconditioned and used vehicles, with a minimum financing amount of RM80,000. Profit charge discounts on excess payments are capped at 50 per cent of the total original financing amount, while withdrawals are subject to a minimum of RM2,000 and in multiples of RM1,000, with a small fee. For Malaysian motorists, the Flexi Redraw offers several key advantages, including potential cost savings from reduced profit charges, access to liquidity through the redraw feature, and greater control in managing long-term financial commitments.
