Newcastle in talks to sign Premier League striker as Alexander Isak to Liverpool saga continues
Newcastle are in talks over a potential deal for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as they attempt to sign a replacement for Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward remains out of action for the Magpies after requesting to leave the club.
He has yet to train with his first-team colleagues, while he did not play in Newcastle 's Premier League season opener against Aston Villa. Liverpool remain interested but are yet to agree a deal with Newcastle.
While that situation rolls on, Eddie Howe 's side are looking for a possible replacement and have identified a current Premier League forward as an option. According to The Athletic, Wolves striker Strand Larsen is of interest to the North East side.
Talks are reportedly ongoing via intermediaries, with discussions yet to get underway between clubs. Strand Larsen would be keen on a potential move, but is not actively seeking to leave Wolves as it stands, with talks at an early stage.
Strand Larsen, 25, joined Wolves last summer on loan from Celta Vigo and after 14 goals across his debut campaign, they signed him permanently for a reported fee of €30million (£26m). He put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Molineux.
Away from Strand Larsen, Newcastle still remain interested in Brentford star Yoane Wissa but are so far refusing to match the Bees' £60m asking price. Asked about any more transfer business, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: 'We are still active in the window and we'd love to add one or two players but it really is quality over quantity.
'We don't want to just add and I don't think we need to do too much more. We are strong and in certain areas we've got good depth and will be able and resilient enough to get through a long, tough season. The league is so hard and the challenges are so big in front of us.'
On Isak in particular, Howe has urged for an end to the saga one way or the other. He said: 'We would like a resolution. I am talking about myself, I am sure the ownership, and the players. We need that clarity. You don't need any distraction. But I am not in control of that. I think only one person really (Isak) can control that.'
He added: 'This season, any season, every season, is going to be hard enough. You don't need any kind of distraction to swerve your thoughts, to unbalance what we're doing.
'I hope it's resolved quickly, because it's news around us all the time. The players have managed to shut that out and perform. We have to continue to do that.'

Mohamed Salah has made history after completing a clean sweep of awards. Liverpool striker Salah has become the first player to win the Professional Footballers' Association's Player of the Year award three times. Liverpool's summer signing Milo Kerkez was also in the XI after his impressive season with Bournemouth while Arsenal had three representatives with William Saliba, Gabriel and Declan Rice. Nottingham Forest duo, keeper Matz Sels and striker Chris Wood, made up the XI which is voted for by their fellow pros as PFA members. Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers won the PFA's Young Player of the Year while England keeper James Trafford was voted Championship Player of the Year after his promotion season with Burnley which also earned him a move to Manchester City. The League One Player of the Year was Richard Kone while Michael Cheek for the League Two award. Arsenal's Mariona Caldentey - who helped the Gunners win the women's Champions League with a glorious victory over Barcelona last May - was voted PFA women's Player of the Year. Olivia Smith, 21, was voted Young Player of the Year as she memorably became the first £1m player in the women's game after her transfer from Liverpool to Arsenal. Meanwhile, Sir Gareth Southgate has been awarded the PFA Merit Award in recognition of his achievements in football and for England team. Southgate took charge in November 2016, led England to four major tournaments and took charge of over 100 games. Former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes OBE, now in charge of the US national team, also got a PFA Merit Award to honour her contributions to women's football over the course of an illustrious career in England. PFA Premier League Team of the Year with Liverpool and Arsenal stars dominating
Mohamed Salah is the headline act of a PFA Premier League Team of the Year dominated by champions Liverpool. With a staggering 47 goal involvements last season, there was little surprise he was included in the best XI voted by his fellow players. Liverpool coasted to the Premier League crown in Arne Slot's first season, beating out Arsenal by 10 points to win their 20th top-flight title. Salah is joined by three of his team-mates from last season; Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch. And Milos Kerkez, who signed for the Reds in the summer, is also named after impressing in his final season for Bournemouth. Runners up Arsenal are also well represented, with their brilliant central defensive partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel picked. The Gunners conceded a league low 34 league goals last term and much of that was put down to the solidity of the pairing in the heart of their back four. Declan Rice rounds off the Arsenal picks as he continues to shine following his massive £105million switch from West Ham two years ago. Nottingham Forest were the surprise package of 2024/25, with Nuno Espirito Santo's side defying all expectations to finish in a European spot. Goalkeeper Matz Selz has been recognised as the league's best stopper, while Chris Wood's stunning 20-goal season earns him a place as one of two central strikers. Alongside him is Alexander Isak, although the wantaway Newcastle star was inconspicuous by his absence as the saga surrounding his future continues. The Swede was the toast of the Toon last campaign, firing in 23 league goals and four more in the cups, helping end the club's 56-year trophy drought in the process. But his legacy at St. James' is tarnished beyond repair after a game of brinksmanship with his current employers. Isak has made it clear that he wants to go in search of a new challenge, despite still having three years on his contract. The 25-year-old believes he has played his final game for the club and desperately wants to join the likes of Salah and Van Dijk at Anfield before the window ends. The striker has been told to stay away from the main group by Eddie Howe until his future is resolved. As well as being absent from training, he decided to not attend the event in Manchester, fearing a backlash amid the ongoing saga.
