HPE unveils new AI-ready switches & WiFi 7 for enterprises

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced an expansion of its HPE Aruba Networking wired and wireless portfolio with new hardware and enhanced capabilities, including the introduction of CX 10K distributed services switches.
The newly launched HPE Aruba Networking CX 10040 distributed services switch is designed to double the scale and performance of its predecessor within the company's networking and security solutions portfolio. The switch incorporates a built-in programmable data processing unit (DPU) from AMD Pensando, aiming to offload security and network services to free up system resources for more complex artificial intelligence (AI) workload processing.
In addition to the CX 10040, HPE Aruba Networking has unveiled four new CX 6300M campus networking switches. These switches are intended to support faster data speeds for enterprise Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and high-performance computing scenarios while occupying a more compact physical footprint within enterprise environments.
HPE Aruba Networking has also added WiFi 7 access points (APs) and related capabilities that are positioned to improve AI-driven indoor and outdoor connectivity. These new devices are designed to support high-quality data, voice, and video communication services, catering to a range of enterprise needs.

HPE Aruba Networking's CX 10040 smart switch utilises an AMD Pensando DPU to enhance performance, supporting the increasing needs of AI-driven computing while retaining built-in firewalling, in-line encryption, and precision telemetry. This combination is expected to increase security, provide greater observability, and enable more efficient server operation within data centres.
The latest CX 6300 series campus switches offer encryption protocols, precision timing, and application recognition and control, commonly referred to as ARC. This is intended to let enterprises meet various data security, bandwidth, and service level agreement (SLA) requirements on a single switch. The new models are constructed with a small footprint to maximise capacity and performance in demanding network environments.
New WiFi 7 access points include the HPE Aruba Networking 720 and 740 Series for indoor connectivity, and the 760 Series for both indoor and outdoor or industrial use cases. These access points feature network slicing capability, specifically dynamic application prioritisation, which is said to support real-time computing requirements for AI and cloud-delivered applications. The 760 Series is built with flexible radio and antenna configuration options for diverse deployment scenarios.
Application-aware networking is now available on the HPE Aruba Networking CX 5420 and 6200 series switches. This allows enterprises to implement specific network policies more granularly, helping ensure data related to AI, IoT, and high-performance computing meets pre-defined SLAs across the entire network.
The company is also rolling out enhancements to its management platform, HPE Aruba Networking Central, which provides AI-powered network management with secure visibility, control, and analytics across campus and data centre environments.
For virtualisation management, HPE Morpheus VM Essentials integration with HPE Aruba CX 10000 Switch Series aims to help organisations unify orchestration of virtual and physical network and security services. This includes distributed firewalling and microsegmentation across multiple server types, with the objective of easing migration to an open virtualisation model.
Recent updates from HPE include increased integration between HPE Aruba Networking Central and HPE OpsRamp for third-party device monitoring, as well as the introduction of the HPE Networking Instant On Secure Gateway targeting small and medium businesses. The company has also launched the HPE Aruba Networking CX 10000 QuickStart Service to support accelerated deployment of its distributed services switches.

HPE has announced a series of updates to its NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, emphasising expanded server capabilities and deeper integration with NVIDIA AI Enterprise solutions. New server models The HPE ProLiant Compute range will soon include servers featuring the NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, available in a 2U form factor. Two main configurations will be available: the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen11 server, supporting up to two of the new GPUs in a 2U chassis, and the previously announced HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12 server, capable of using up to eight GPUs in a 4U form factor. According to HPE, the latter configuration will be shipping in September. These servers are designed for broad enterprise applications such as generative and agentic AI, robotics and industrial AI, visual computing (including autonomous vehicles and quality control monitoring), simulation, 3D modelling, digital twins, and enterprise applications. The HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers also include hardware features aimed at enhancing security and operational efficiency, such as the HPE Integrated Lights Out (iLO) 7 Silicon Root of Trust and a secure enclave for tamper-resistant protection and quantum-resistant firmware signing. HPE estimates that its Compute Ops Management, a cloud-native tool for managing server lifecycles, can decrease IT hours for server management by up to 75 percent and reduce downtime by approximately 4.8 hours per server each year. HPE Private Cloud AI HPE's Private Cloud AI offering, which has been co-developed with NVIDIA, is being updated to support the latest NVIDIA GPU technologies and AI models. The next version will offer compatibility for NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 GPUs on Gen12 servers and aims to provide seamless scalability across different GPU generations. Features will include air-gapped management for security and support for enterprise multi-tenancy. The new release of HPE Private Cloud AI will integrate recent NVIDIA AI models, including the NVIDIA Nemotron models focused on agentic AI, Cosmos Reason vision language model (VLM) for physical AI and robotics, and the NVIDIA Blueprint for Video Search and Summarization (VSS 2.4), intended to build video analytics AI agents that can process large volumes of video data. Customers will have access to these developments through the HPE AI Essentials platform, enabling the quick deployment of NVIDIA NIM microservices and other AI tools. Through the continued collaboration, HPE Private Cloud AI is designed to deliver an integrated solution that leverages NVIDIA's portfolio in AI accelerated computing, networking, and software. This enables businesses to address increasing demand for AI inferencing and to accelerate the development and deployment of AI systems, maintaining high security and control over enterprise data. Support within HPE Private Cloud AI for the latest NVIDIA Nemotron models, Cosmos Reason, and the NVIDIA Blueprint for VSS 2.4 is scheduled for release in the second half of 2025. Disruptive tech delivers mixed results for environmental sustainability

Forrester has released a new report examining the mixed effects of disruptive technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) on environmental sustainability. The report, titled Jekyll And Hyde: The Dual Role of Disruptive Technologies in Sustainability , addresses how these technologies are increasingly influencing efforts to address climate change, while simultaneously presenting complex sustainability challenges for businesses and policymakers. Report findings The study explores how six significant disruptive technologies will impact sustainability objectives through 2025. Analysts note that while automation and AI can generate improvements in efficiency and environmental monitoring, these same technologies may also lead to higher energy usage, potential inefficiencies, and issues related to data security and unpredictability in AI systems. IoT is identified as valuable for its capabilities in monitoring and optimising processes, but it also creates concerns regarding electronic waste, overall carbon footprint, and the management of battery disposal. With respect to advanced data centres, the report highlights positive trends in making AI operations more efficient, thanks to techniques such as liquid cooling, heat reuse, and modular design. However, it notes that these centres may require more energy, generate additional electronic waste, and increase reliance on rare materials, adding further stress to global supply chains. Autonomous mobility technologies, including drones, delivery robots, and truck platoons, are helping streamline transportation and logistics. Yet, analysts caution that such innovations could exacerbate vehicle proliferation and resource stress, driven by reduced operational costs. Dual effects "Disruptive technologies such as automation, AI, and autonomous mobility can boost environmental sustainability, but they can also work against it, creating a true Jekyll-and-Hyde duality that leaders must manage," said Abhijit Sunil, Senior Analyst at Forrester. Sunil noted that the core challenge is to take advantage of the optimisation potential these technologies offer, while also managing their long-term lifecycle and resource impacts. "The challenge lies in maximizing the optimization potential of these technologies while actively managing their lifecycle impacts and resource intensity," he added. Lifecycle management Sunil elaborated on these complexities in a recent blog post, providing further detail on both the sustainability benefits and complications introduced by disruptive technologies. "Disruptive technologies (referring to automation, AI, and autonomous mobility) bring high compute demands, increased electronic waste, reliance on critical raw materials, complications to the supply chain, and substantial infrastructure required for deployment. But these disruptive technologies also boost environmental sustainability if used in savvy ways. They enhance energy and resource efficiency, support climate resilience and compliance, enable real-time tracking of environmental KPIs, enable new sustainable business models and products, and advance conservation efforts." The report positions AI as particularly impactful for transforming sustainability reporting processes. Automation of data analysis, alignment of disclosures with regulations, and tailored reporting for different stakeholders all stand out as notable improvements. AI is also linked to core sustainability initiatives such as climate risk forecasting, energy usage optimisation, reduction of emissions, and strengthening resilience in supply chains. However, the study warns that such benefits come with trade-offs, especially regarding energy and water consumption required to train, cool, and operate large AI models. The impact is described as potentially significant in regions already facing resource constraints. "An immediate positive of AI is that it transforms sustainability reporting by automating data analysis, aligning disclosures with regulatory frameworks, and customizing content for diverse stakeholders. Beyond reporting, AI can support core sustainability initiatives such as climate risk forecasting, energy optimization, emissions reduction, and supply chain resilience. But AI also introduces significant environmental challenges. The water demand to cool and energy to train and run large models raise concerns about resource use, especially in constrained regions. As AI adoption accelerates, sustainability and technology leaders have a critical role to play in guiding its use." The Forrester report underscores the importance for businesses to approach these technologies with a balanced perspective, considering both their positive and negative environmental effects, in order to ensure long-term compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability goals.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has introduced several updates to its NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, aimed at supporting enterprise clients seeking to accelerate agentic and physical AI deployment across a variety of use cases. Server advancements Among the headline updates, HPE has confirmed it will ship new HPE ProLiant Compute servers equipped with NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs. This includes a new 2U RTX PRO Server form factor in the DL385 Gen11 model, as well as an 8-GPU 4U configuration with the DL380a Gen12 model. According to HPE, the DL385 Gen11 supports up to two of the Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, providing an air-cooled solution suitable for datacentres coping with increasing artificial intelligence workloads. Meanwhile, the DL380a Gen12 can accommodate up to eight GPUs in a larger form factor, with shipments scheduled to begin in September 2025. HPE highlighted that the ProLiant Compute servers are purpose-built for handling a variety of tasks, including generative and agentic AI, robotics, industrial automation, visual computing, simulation, 3D modelling, digital twins, and autonomous systems. Security features on the Gen12 models include HPE Integrated Lights Out 7 Silicon Root of Trust and a secure enclave for tamper-resistant protection and quantum-resistant firmware signing. The company states that its server management platform, HPE Compute Ops Management, can reduce IT hours spent on server management by up to 75% and lower downtime by an average of 4.8 hours per server annually. HPE has also indicated that these servers are designed to be flexible and scalable, able to support a growing range of GPU-accelerated workloads across the enterprise. AI development platform HPE Private Cloud AI, a collaborative development with NVIDIA, will incorporate support for the latest NVIDIA AI models. This includes the NVIDIA Nemotron agentic AI model, Cosmos Reason vision language model for robotics and physical AI, and the NVIDIA Blueprint for Video Search and Summarization (VSS 2.4). These additions will allow customers to build and deploy video analytics AI agents that can process extensive volumes of video data and extract actionable insights. The new release promises seamless scalability across GPU generations, air-gapped management, and enterprise multi-tenancy. Continuous integration with NVIDIA technologies will also allow HPE Private Cloud AI to deliver rapid deployment of NVIDIA NIM microservices, with access provided via HPE AI Essentials. The platform is positioned to help enterprises handle increasing AI inferencing workloads while retaining control over their data, supporting high performance and security requirements in demanding sectors. The next generation of HPE Private Cloud AI, with Blackwell GPU support, is also slated for release in the same period.
