Mohit Suri Reveals How Saiyaara Title Track Was Born: 'These Boys From Kashmir…'
Last Updated: Mohit Suri revealed at CNN-News18's Mumbai Townhall that he recorded all songs for Saiyaara before shooting. He also spoke about Saiyaara title track's creation. Mohit Suri's Saiyaara wasn't just built on a script – it was first built on music. Suri, at CNN-News18's Mumbai Townhall event, revealed that he recorded all the songs for the film before even beginning to shoot. He also spoke about how the Saiyaara title track was conceived, which ultimately became a chartbuster. The filmmaker, who is known for working with multiple music directors at the same time, detailed his process. 'It's a nightmare to work with multiple music directors," Mohit Suri playfully said. 'When I started off, I was 22 when I was directing my first film. I had long hair, etc., and people didn't take me seriously. I was in Krish Kapoor mode. Most people didn't want to work with me at that time – the senior ones. They didn't think I knew my job. Out of inability, I went out and found guys like Mithoon, who was 19 back then, and all these people, and got a musicians' ensemble together." That 'inability" quickly became his competitive edge. The Aashiqui 2 director said, 'What was good was that I was someone who went out and hung out in clubs and coffee shops, etc., and that's how I know a DJ Suketu, who made Bin Tere Sanam. I had the edge because I was connected, and I put it all together, and it worked out. Then it also worked for the second film. What started as a limitation became my strength. I am not against working with one music director, but my greed or need for good music – if one person can give it to me, I am happy. But I love that process where I am sitting and jamming together." Mohit Suri on the making of Saiyaara title track For Saiyaara, the title track has its own serendipitous backstory. 'There are these boys from Kashmir, who I have one song called Ishq in the Indie circuit. I'm like, call this boy down, he brings along a partner. They are in Mumbai for 14 days to try their luck. The last time Arslan was working on the Atal Setu between Leh-Ladakh and Kashmir as a civil engineer – he's a civil engineer. He comes and meets Tanishk Bagchi from Bengal. He makes them meet me. I make them meet Irshad Kamil, who is from Punjab. We jam together and make something in the air, called the Saiyaara title track. It's the most amazing process." Mohit Suri-helmed Saiyaara was backed by YRF. It starred debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in lead roles. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
