Ron DeSantis heckled by screaming protester at Hogan tribute

Daily Mail5 days ago
A screaming heckler interrupted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as he delivered a tribute to wrestling legend Hulk Hogan on Thursday. As DeSantis eulogized Hogan, describing the fellow Floridian as a 'superhero' and a 'major icon for anybody in Gen X,' an unhinged man began shouting from the back of the room.
'Alligator Alcatraz - is that your [expletive] legacy!?' the unidentified protester yelled. De Santis told the man to 'stop' and 'get out of here' before the protester took another swipe at the governor.
'You bow to a [expletive] [child predator]. You're a [expletive] [child predator]' he yelled as security moved in to escort him out. '[Expletive] you all,' he added as security removed him.
DeSantis then picked up where he left off, recalling the time Hogan lifted 520-pound Andre the Giant off the ground during Wrestlemania III. 'I was really worried that he wasn't going to be able to, but he slammed Andre the Giant,' he said. 'That was a huge thing for kids in that era.'
The dramatic interruption came after Hogan, 71, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater Beach. Alligator Alcatraz, a migrant detention center in the Florida Everglades, has come under fierce criticism since it opened its doors on July 1 and began accepting inmates two days later.
It has sparked outrage over reports of poor conditions and the treatment of inmates. President Donald Trump toured the facility on July 1 alongside DeSantis and Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem, declaring: 'It might be as good as the real Alcatraz.'
Two weeks later, a group of Democrats were granted access to tour the newly constructed grounds, and lamented the tough conditions migrants housed there will face. Florida Democrat Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz compared the facility to an internment camp and insisted 'there are really disturbing, vile conditions,' demanding the 'place be shut the hell down.'
Kevin Guthrie, from the Florida division of Emergency Management, dismissed democrats' concerns in an interview with Jesse Watters on Fox. He said one critic 'had an infrared thermometer that they actually pointed at a lightbulb and it was 110C.'
Guthrie said he suggested they 'pull that down' to gauge the actual temperature, suggesting it was an attempt to make the facility appear hotter than it actually is. One migrant being held at detention center described dozens of inmates being corralled inside cages at the mosquito-infested facility.
Juan Palma, 48, told NBC6 that the lights stay on around the clock, leaving him clueless as to the time of day. The Cuban migrant said that he and 32 other people live in what he described as a cage and that they are only allowed to shower every three or four days.

Dramatic rise in assassination attempts has lawmakers demanding more security: 'Someone is gonna get killed here'

Members of Congress have increased funding for their own personal security expenses amid a chilling rise in attacks on lawmakers in recent months. A string of politically-charged threats and attacks in recent months have legislators on edge and fearing for their safety. A source on the House Administration Committee confirmed to the Daily Mail that there has been an increase to the resources available to members to fund security enhancements ahead of the August recess when lawmakers return to their districts and states to meet with constituents. This pilot program includes $20,000 for a residential security program for each member, up from $10,000, to allow them to install a comprehensive suite of security equipment at their residences, according to a document shared with the Daily Mail. Additionally, the document states that lawmakers will be provided $5,000 a month for personal security measures, a sizable increase from just $150. The cash for the security programs is coming from the chief law enforcement and protocol officer of the House, the House Sergeant at Arms (HSAA). The $5,000 stipend is already in place but expires at the end of FY2025 and would need a vote to be renewed. The $20,000 residential program does not have to be voted on again and is a 'lifetime' amount, the source confirmed. Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, posted earlier this summer about being targeted in an antisemitic attack while driving. The individual, who drove Miller off the road while waving a Palestinian flag, later turned himself into authorities. The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control. Today I was run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off. 'Today I was run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off.' Miller later announced that he asked the Capitol Police to investigate. The incident is just one of the thousands of threats that Capitol Police deal with annually, and members have asked congressional leadership to make a plan. Democrat Congressman Jared Moskowitz was the target of a gunman arrested last year, who lived under ten miles away from his Florida home. 'Someone's gonna get killed here. It almost was me,' Moskowitz told the Wall Street Journal. The additional funds couldn't be coming at a better time. The campaign office of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was vandalized with red paint resembling blood last week. A disturbing video made its rounds on X of the congresswoman's Bronx campaign headquarters being vandalized in red paint. A note was also attached to the front gate reading 'AOC Funds Genocide in Gaza.' The glass directly covering photograph of the congresswoman's face was entirely obscured by red paint as well. The unhinged action came days after AOC voted against an amendment proposed by MAGA Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to cut funding to Israel 's 'golden dome' air defense systems by $500 million. Members of Congress from both parties have been threatened in recent weeks. Florida Republican Kat Cammack shared last month that her district office had to be evacuated due to death threats she received following a Wall Street Journal story which detailed her experiences with an ectopic pregnancy last year. Cammack, 37, is currently pregnant and expecting her first child in mid-August. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the congresswoman spoke of 'imminent death threats against me, my unborn child, my family and my staff' based on her revealing her story about a 'nonviable pregnancy with no heartbeat.' The threats to Cammack came just over a week after a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband were assassinated at their home by a gunman. Melissa Hortman, a Democratic former Speaker of the Minnesota House, and her husband were killed after the assailant pretended to be a cop at their front door. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro was also the target of an arson attack in April when a man set fire to the governor's residence.

The Daily Show jokes that Trump is going after famous Black people in an effort to deflect interest away from Epstein

The Daily Show lambasted President Trump for using a series of targeted verbal attacks to distract attention from the Jeffrey Epstein debacle. 'Trump is going to target every exceptional Black person he can think of,' returning correspondent Jessica Williams said on Jon Stewart 's show Monday night while highlighting that in recent weeks, Trump has singled out Beyonce, Oprah, and former Vice President Kamala with threats. 'We're about a week away from him saying that Urkel did 9/11? Urkel! 'Did he do that?' No, Jon, no, he didn't. He was nowhere near the towers that day,' an Emmy-nominated star joked about the famous child actor who appeared on the '90s sitcom 'Family Matters.' Steve Urkel, a character played by Jaleel White, became associated with the catchphrase 'Did I do that?' which typically followed acts of clumsiness. Williams joked that Trump may even start going after other notorious Black celebrities, including Michael Jordan and Michael B. Jordan. 'He better watch his back. I'm scared for him,' she teased about an imaginary 'Michael C Jordan' on the topic. Williams, an actor and a comedian, formerly appeared as a series regular on the Nickelodeon series 'Just for Kicks' in 2006, before becoming The Daily Show 's youngest correspondent at 22 years old in 2012. Earlier in the show, Stewart spoke on the Epstein scandal after the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, met with Ghislaine Maxwell last week. The former socialite is currently serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted for her role in helping Epstein recruit, groom, and abuse underage girls. The talk show host then suggested that the president is trying to downplay his relationship with Epstein and any mishandling of the documents relating to the disgraced financier's case. During the show, Stewart showed a Truth Social post, where Trump lashed out at Beyoncé, Oprah, and former Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday, demanding that 'they should all be prosecuted!' for 'illegally endorsing' the Democrats in the 2024 presidential election. 'Kamala, and all of those that received endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW,' Trump wrote. Williams, who joined in at the end of the segment, called out the president's 'b*****t' before adding that she had 'had it with Trump.' 'He's got to come clean about Epstein,' she insisted. It was reported earlier this month that in May, Attorney General Pam Bondi told Trump that his name appeared in the files. The president has since filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal 's parent companies, News Corp and Dow Jones, following the newspaper's publication of the president's alleged birthday letter to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The president has consistently denied any wrongdoing regarding his friendship with Epstein. On Sunday, Trump suggested that the Democrats are focused on conspiracy theories. He claimed that 'all they know how to do is talk and think about conspiracy theories and nonsense.' The president is currently on his final day of his visit to Scotland, where he told a reporter to scrap any ideas of his alleged involvement. "Oh, you gotta be kidding with that," Trump said. "No, had nothing to do with it. Only you would think that. That had nothing to do with it."

How John Swinney and Donald Trump struck up an unlikely bromance during the President's Scotland trip

Daily Record Political Editor Paul Hutcheon says the President's trip was a success for the First Minister. John Swinney' s unlikely friendship with Donald Trump was forged over a dinner of langoustine and beef at the President's golf club in Balmedie. ‌ The pair sat next to each other and the SNP leader used the opportunity to charm and flatter the leader of the free world. ‌ They exchanged anecdotes about the late Sir Sean Connery and Swinney gently lobbied to exempt the whisky industry from crippling tariffs. ‌ Keir Starmer had left the dinner early and Swinney ended up getting two hours face time at the private event - more than the Prime Minister. Swinney was then invited by Trump to a family breakfast the next morning that included the President's sons Don Jnr and Eric, who is in charge of the Scottish golf businesses. At one point, Swinney showed Trump a picture of his teenage son Matthew playing golf in Tiree, to which the President replied by saying the First Minister's child had a 'beautiful' swing. ‌ Later in the day Trump, never a man to pay false compliments, gushed about Swinney ahead of opening his third course in Scotland. He described Swinney as a 'really special guy' and - to the surprise of the First Minister's advisers - even claimed he 'loves golf'. Swinney later joked: 'I am aware of golf.' ‌ Their bromance is remarkable given Trump's five day trip could have been a disaster for Swinney. He endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris at the 2024 presidential election and earned a rebuke last year from Eric Trump, who said: 'I mean, obviously [ Swinney ] read the temperature very wrong. He got it wrong. He got it very wrong because my father won decisively. ‌ 'And so, you know, endorsing a person three days before an election in a different country, and missing the mark by as much as it was missed by, you know, he read the tea leaves incorrectly. 'Again, my father adores Scotland, and you have a First Minister coming out and just being fairly nasty in the days leading up." The US President also hates tax, loathes renewable energy and is openly scornful of trans rights. ‌ In his time in Government, Swinney has backed income tax rises, supported offshore wind projects and defended law changes to help trans people. He is exactly the sort of politician Trump routinely denounces as 'crazy left' in the US. ‌ In avoiding a public spanking from Trump, Swinney learned lessons from the humiliation meted out to President Zelensky in the Oval Office in February. Trump is the vainest man on the planet and wants credit when he puts his hand in his pocket to assist on international affairs. Zelensky did not thank Trump in front of the cameras for the aid provided to Ukraine by the US and he let rip. ‌ By contrast, Swinney thanked Trump for his family's investment in Scotland and for providing aid to Gaza. The soft soap approach worked. Older hands also believe Trump's long memory may be responsible for the positive relationship with Swinney. In 2007, Swinney as SNP Finance Secretary 'called in' Trump's application for the golfing development in Aberdeenshire after opposition by the local council. ‌ The project was given the go-ahead and the SNP Government of the day was accused of favouring Trump. As a result of dining with Trump, the First Minister now believes there is an outside chance of the US chiselling down the tariffs on whisky ahead of the second state visit in September. Swinney will take his case to the US ambassador to the UK after concluding that Starmer has not prioritised the whisky industry in discussions on a trade deal. ‌ Trum p. Small acts of resistance by other countries against the US have prompted Trump to threaten even greater sanctions. Swinney will have been worried on Friday that he was in line to receive the same treatment but both sides have left the resort happy. The US may keep a 10% tariff on whisky and Trump will no doubt continue to aim barbs at the 'windmills' he believes sully the landscape. But no damage has been done by Trump 's visit and the links between Scotland and the US have been strengthened.
