"Strays shouldn't be treated as a menace. They deserve homes where they feel safe. We need to find ways to coexist," said Khairatabad resident Stalin Kondru. For Sneha Sri, a resident of Banjara Hills, adopting an indie dog was about having a pet that was accustomed to the environment here. "Many are obsessed with getting pedigree dogs as pets, but these dogs find it difficult to adapt to the conditions here. I've experienced it with my German shepherd too. Indie dogs are native, and they are as loving and loyal as pedigree dogs," she said. GHMC officials said the move aimed to tackle the city's stray population. estimated at four lakh. "Over 80% are sterilised but must be released back on the streets, as mandated by law. Adoption ensures they get real care," said Chakrapani Reddy, deputy director of GHMC's veterinary department. Adopters must follow rules, including sterilisation after six months, annual vaccinations, and regular health updates to GHMC. "These puppies deserve peaceful, happy lives," GHMC commissioner RV Karnan told the gathering, adding that similar drives will follow. In a month, clothes and book donation drive gains momentum in Koderma

1 2 Koderma: What began as a modest initiative by deputy commissioner Rituraj has blossomed into a citywide wave of generosity in Koderma. The 'Book Donation and Clothing Donation Mobile Camp Campaign' has now evolved from a small outreach programme into a full-fledged public movement, touching countless lives. "The books and clothes donation campaign was started with an aim to provide access to education, knowledge, and dignity to underprivileged individuals of the society," said DC Rituraj. Talking to TOI, he said the campaign, which began on July 7, quickly gained momentum with strong support from civil society and educational institutions. The innovative approach of mobile donation camps brought the campaign to life. Toto vehicles made daily rounds through every ward of the municipal council area, collecting unused books and gently used clothes directly from residents' doorsteps, making participation effortless for citizens. The response was overwhelming, with more than 3,500 books and nearly 11,000 clothes collected. These items are now actively being distributed to needy students, poor families, and marginalised communities, directly impacting the lives of Koderma's most deprived sections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo "So far, over 6,000 clothes and books have already found new homes," said the DC.
