Lions brace for 'daunting' run home to AFL finals
On a three-match winning streak, the second-placed Lions face five top-eight rivals over the last six home-and-away rounds as the fight for ladder positions nears its climax.
The difficult test starts in a huge clash with the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba on Friday night.
"Every game's important. We have a particularly hard run, so I'm not looking too far ahead," Lions coach Fagan said on Thursday.
"We're just wholly and solely focused on tomorrow night because that's about all you can think about at the moment, otherwise it seems too daunting.
"One week at a time, big game tomorrow night against a really good opponent who have got a lot to play for as well."
The Bulldogs (10-7) sit ninth after a home loss to Adelaide last round and remain firmly in the finals hunt, but have won just one game so far this season against a side currently above them on the ladder.
Despite that record, Fagan is wary of an opposition midfield unit led by renowned ball-winners Tom Liberatore, Ed Richards and Marcus Bontempelli.
"That's what you need to address," he said.
"(Luke Beveridge's) teams have always been able to score and generally speaking they've been good defensively, albeit that's the criticism of them at the moment.
"But I reckon they would've done a bit of work on that this week, so I'm expecting a good all-round game from the Dogs."
Fagan will want a better start from Brisbane than in their previous encounter with the Bulldogs, when they trailed by 39 points early in the third quarter of their Gather Round clash at Norwood Oval.
The Lions roared back with 13 of the last 16 goals to win by 21 points in one of the most entertaining games of the season.
"I haven't really looked back but all I know is we were probably fortunate to win that game, coming from that far behind," Fagan said.
"We wouldn't want to find ourselves in that position tomorrow night."
Bulldogs spearhead Sam Darcy kicked 2.3 from 16 disposals and had eight marks in that previous clash, opposed to Harris Andrews.
Fagan will again send his co-captain to mind the 205cm target, who has kicked 17 goals in five appearances since returning from a knee injury.
"You probably wouldn't have to be a rocket scientist to work out that's who Harris is going to play on," Fagan said.
"The rest of our defenders aren't quite tall enough to play on Sam Darcy.
"Harris will have that job and I know he's looking forward to it. It will be a great clash."
Fagan was tight-lipped on who would replace injured defender Noah Answerth (achilles), but ruled out Keidean Coleman and Tom Doedee.
In-form forward Zac Bailey will also miss through suspension after receiving a one-match ban for his high bump on Carlton's Nick Haynes.
"I've moved on because the bottom line is he's got a week," Fagan said of Bailey's ban.
"My personal view is a little bit harsh, but that's probably all I want to say about it."

Luca Urlando takes home gold in 200m butterfly The 200m butterfly has proved an elusive event for Team USA on the men's side following Michael Phelps' retirement. No American man had medaled in the event since 2011, Phelps' last time winning the 200m butterfly at the World Championships. But that changed Wednesday, as Luca Urlando came away with the gold. Urlando posted a 1:51:87 time, beating Poland's Krzysztof Chmielewski and Australia's Harrison Turner for the top spot. Chmielewski finished second with a time of 1:52:64. Turner came in third, posting a 1:54:17 time. The win is a long time coming for Urlando, who was on the rise before a shoulder injury derailed him in 2022. With the win, Urlando becomes the first American man to pick up a gold medal at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships. The team struggled early at the event due to an illness that caused a number of swimmers to pull out of events or post slower times than usual. The team has recovered since then, with the women leading the way. Gretchen Walsh and Katie Ledecky are among the Team USA women to pick up gold medals at the World Championships so far. Jack Alexy sets new American record in 100m freestyle American Jack Alexy looked strong during 100m freestyle prelims Wednesday. Alexy turned in an incredible time of 46.81, setting an American record. Alexy's time narrowly beat Caeleb Dressel's 46.96 from the 2019 World Championships. It was an impressive performance by Alexy, but it didn't result in a medal ... yet. Alexy still needs to compete in the final. If he can recapture his semifinal performance, Alexy could walk away from the 100m freestyle with a medal. His job did get somewhat easier Wednesday after 100m freestyle favorite Pan Zhanle was surprisingly eliminated after a poor performance in the semis.

Thad Jean unthreatened by Logan Storley's wrestling: 'He's not a danger'
Thad Jean likes his chances for Friday's PFL welterweight final Some say Thad Jean faces the toughest test in the biggest fight of his career this Friday, but he's not sold on that idea. Jean (10-0), a rising star, returns in the main event of 2025 PFL World Tournament 8: Finals against former Bellator interim champion and long-time contender Logan Storley (18-3). The event takes place at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.. The two fighters compete for the 2025 PFL welterweight tournament title and a $500,000 prize. "The Silverback" thinks he already had his toughest fight in the tournament, when he fought former Bellator champion Jason Jackson in June. Jean sees Storley as one-dimensional, thus an easier opponent. "Going into this fight against Logan Storley, I know exactly what to expect," Jean told MMA Junkie. "I know exactly what he wants to do. The thing about it is that watching his last fight against Kikuiri, he's not as cardio dominant as he thinks he is. You could see it in the second round after what he did in the first round. He was gassed out and he couldn't do it. "First of all, you have to first take me down and keep me on the ground, and that's going to be a challenge in itself, and because I know what he's going to do. I'm going to be able to stand my ground and I know exactly where I need to be, and I know exactly what I need to do. I'm a good wrestler, like I'm telling you. Storley is a four-time NCAA All-American wrestler and used those skills to beat notable opposition such as Michael Page, Joaquin Buckley, Neiman Gracie and others. Jean thinks that even if Storley can get him to the ground, he won't be in any danger. He doesn't think Storley has what it takes to control him for 25 minutes. "I'm going to keep my range, keep my distance, and if I go into the grappling, it's just to tire you out because I know how to stay up and how to get back up." Jean explained. "I'm not in danger and if Logan were to take me down, he's not a danger from the top. He's not a crazy threat if he takes you down." Jean expects to make a big statement and win the 2025 PFL welterweight title. He doesn't see the fight going into the fourth or firth rounds. "The first two rounds, we're not going to the championship rounds," Jean said. "If we do, then we have to, but I'm going to day first round I take Logan Storley out."

Murray 'buzzing' with Pressley's ideas but 'patience' required
New captain Simon Murray says the Dundee squad are "buzzing" with the new ideas Steven Pressley is implementing but admits "patience" is required from the support. Pressley's tenure began with a League Cup group-stage exit as back-to-back defeats to Airdrie and Alloa were followed by wins over Bonnyrigg and Montrose. The Dark Blues get the new Premiership campaign under way on Sunday with the visit of Hibs. Striker Murray, who was appointed skipper by new boss Pressley last month, told Sky Sports: "It's a privilege to be named captain. "It's been great so far. The boys have been buzzing in terms of the ideas and the way that we want to play. "When you change the system, it's just getting that practice all the time, keep doing it and just getting used to it. When we get results, we'll all be happy. "There's been change in the summer, and it's just new ideas. "We've had some players come in, so it's just building these relationships and trying put into play what the manager wants, and that will take time. He knows that. "It's just asking the supporters for some patience. We've got an exciting season to look forward to starting on Sunday. "We're working hard on the training ground, getting the ideas in, working, building the relationships with our team-mates. Hopefully it will come good."
