Nice hosts drone shows to mark United Nations Ocean Conference

Residents and tourists gathered to watch a first-of-a-kind drone show in the mediterranean coast of La Baie des Anges, in Nice France. The show was organised as part of the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) scheduled from June 9-13, 2025 in Nice, France. There were musical concerts and fireworks as well on Friday from 6.30 pm onwards. To keep things move smoothly, the police department has arranged for a tight security. The drone show began at 10.45 pm after the sky was pitch dark.
This drone show was organised to bring attention to the importance of ocean conservation and preservation of its marine biodiversity. A total of 2025 illuminated drones dancing across the mediterranean coast, started marching right at 10.45pm displaying stunning scenes in the night sky featuring ocean creatures such as dolphins, turtles, seahorse, shark, manta rays, whale and coral reef to mention a few. The performance was accompanied by the theme of the event's musical soundtrack. Towards the end, there was a message how marine ecosystem maintains a balance of earth by regulating environmental conditions and help stabilize ecosystem processes that maintains overall balance.
The drone show was followed by fireworks for at least 20 minutes. To catch the glimpse of the show, people had started gathering from 4pm to the beach with their mats, shawls, water, drinks, and pizzas to block a spot for themselves on the coast.
Nice Municipal Councillor Harve Cael took to X and wrote, '2025 drones in the sky over Nice! The Baie des Anges is illuminated for UNOC with a breathtaking aerial display! A magical, unique, unforgettable moment. Prepare to be amazed.'
Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi said, 'The sky over Nice shines with colors of the ocean! An unprecedented ballet of 2,025 drones illuminates our Mediterranean, and Nice achieves a European record, before the eyes of the people of Nice and the entire world. 150,000 residents of Nice and visitors from all over the world gathered on the Promenade des Anglais to witness this exceptional drone show, which lit up our Mediterranean. A unique moment for a unique event #UNOC3.'
