Tennis-Swiatek thrashes Anisimova 6-0 6-0 to win Wimbledon title
LONDON (Reuters) -Iga Swiatek thrashed American Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0 to become the first Polish player to win a Wimbledon singles title on Saturday, ending a ludicrously lop-sided final in 57 minutes.
The 24-year-old eighth seed was merciless as she took brutal advantage of Grand Slam final debutant Anisimova's leg-sapping nerves in front of a stunned Centre Court.
It turned into a nightmare afternoon for 13th seed Anisimova who became the first player to lose a Wimbledon final 6-0 6-0 since 1911 and the first to do so at any Grand Slam since Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.
Swiatek, who had never gone beyond the Wimbledon quarter-finals before this year despite winning four French Open crowns, could never have imagined that claiming her sixth Grand Slam title could have been as easy.
She dropped only two games in her semi-final against Belinda Bencic and was even more ruthless in the final, clinching victory with a backhand winner.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Flag football will take center stage during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, after organizers confirmed the sport's medal matches will be held in primetime slots in its first-ever Olympic appearance. The International Federation of American Football (IFAF), in partnership with the National Football League (NFL), announced on Monday that the men's and women's medal games are scheduled for Friday evening, July 21, and Saturday afternoon, July 22, at BMO Stadium near downtown Los Angeles. (Reuters) -Mitchell Starc delivered the fastest five-wicket haul in test history on Monday as Australia crushed the West Indies by 176 runs in the third test in Kingston, Jamaica to complete a 3-0 series sweep. Starc took 15 balls to wreck the West Indies top order in a brilliant display that left the home side's run chase in tatters, before returning to take his sixth wicket after Scott Boland's hat-trick. West Indies were bowled out for 27, the second-lowest total in test history after New Zealand's 26 against England in 1955. Swimming-World championship 10km open water event postponed
SINGAPORE (Reuters) -The women's 10km open water event at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore was postponed on Monday due to poor water quality off Sentosa. World Aquatics said in a statement that the opening event, scheduled for Tuesday, would be moved to Wednesday after readings exceeded acceptable thresholds. "While testing in recent days has consistently shown water quality at the venue to meet World Aquatics' acceptable thresholds, analysis of samples taken on 13 July surpassed these thresholds," it said. "The decision to postpone racing was made in the best interests of athlete health and safety." The men's 10km is now due to start the open water schedule on Wednesday, with the women immediately after. The indoor swimming events at the Singapore Sports Hub run from July 27 to August 3.
