Dakota Johnson looks downcast without her engagement ring as she breaks cover amid Chris Martin split
Dakota Johnson appeared downcast as she surfaced in New York this Wednesday, hours before DailyMail.com confirmed her split from Chris Martin.
Actress Johnson, 35, and Coldplay frontman Martin, 48, first sparked up a relationship in 2017 and got engaged several years ago - but have now gone their separate ways.
Just before news of their separation spread around the world, Johnson was seen emerging from the Greenwich Hotel in the Manhattan neighborhood Tribeca.
She wore a large hat with a wide brim that drooped to conceal her eyes, but her somber expression was still in evidence.
Her left hand was notably bare of her dazzling emerald engagement ring as she stepped out onto the sidewalk on Greenwich Street.
A source has told DailyMail.com of her breakup: 'Their relationship has been over for a long time, they just haven't been able to figure out to make it official.
'Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much.
'Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore.
'Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them.'
The source added there is a chance the pair may reconcile but 'right now, being separated will do wonders if they were to have any type of future together.'
DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for Johnson and Martin for comment but did not immediately hear back.
She also stepped out on Sunday with Martin's ex Jennifer Lawrence.
DailyMail first reported trouble between the pair in August 2024 but a rep later confirmed they were still together.
The pair had a brief rumored split in 2019 which was alleged to be over Martin pushing for them to have children, but they quickly got back together.
Martin famously split from actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow, the mother of his two children Apple, 21, and Moses, 19, in March 2014 after ten years of marriage.
The then-Hollywood power couple described their separation at the time as a 'conscious uncoupling' and had their divorce finalized in July 2016.
Martin was reported to be in an on-and-off relationship with actress Annabelle Wallis before they split in August 2017.
He was first seen with Dakota at a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles in October 2017 when they were reported to be 'cozy, laughing and affectionate'.
Dakota, the daughter of Don Johnson, 75, and Melanie Griffith, 68, was spotted a month later at a Coldplay concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, leading to fans posing social media pictures of her enjoying the show.
The couple were seen out on more dates around Los Angeles in early 2018.
But it was nearly a year later that they made their first openly public appearance together at Stella McCartney's Autumn 2018 Collection show in LA.
Dakota's father, Don, appeared to confirm his daughter's relationship with Martin in an interview with Digital Spy when he joked: "Yeah, that's... uh troubling, isn't it? No, she's a big girl, she can handle herself!'
Her actress mother also opened up about Martin during a Global Gift Foundation USA Women's Empowerment Luncheon, when she said: 'I adore him!'
Dakota appeared to confirm her relationship with Martin in an interview with Tatler in September 2018 when she said: 'I'm not going to talk about it, but I am very happy.'
The following November, she is said to have met Paltrow, her new husband Brad Falchuk, and Martin's children at a Thanksgiving dinner
A source told PEOPLE at the time: 'They're a total modern family and had a great time celebrating together.'
The couple were spotted again with Paltrow and Falchuk on the beach in the Hamptons, New York, in August 2019.
Paltrow opened up about her ex-husband's relationship with Dakota in a 2020 interview with Harper's Bazaar, describing how the actress had become part of her family.
She said: 'I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it's sort of unconventional. But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her.'
Johnson gushed over Martin's children in a 2024 interview, saying: 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.'

Louise Redknapp, 50, flaunts her age-defying physique in a black bikini as she enjoys a girls' trip to Manhattan
Louise Redknapp flaunted her age-defying physique in a black bikini as she enjoyed a girls' trip to Manhattan on Sunday. The singer, 50, looked incredible in the album of holiday snaps, as she stunned in her swimwear which she layered under a white shirt and paired with long black shorts. She appeared in high spirits for her trip as she could be seen posing in front of the Big Apple's famous skyline. Louise and her friend also shared a picture looking very glamourous in a white dress which featured a choker design. Alongside her fun Instagram post in the states, the blonde beauty penned: 'A little girls trip with Sue'. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Louise's trip comes after the singer revealed if there are wedding bells on the horizon with her younger boyfriend, Drew Michael. The happy couple have been dating since October 2023 and have gone from strength to strength. The singer moved on with Drew after her split from Jamie Redknapp in 2017 after 19 years of marriage. They share two children together Charlie, 20, and William, 16. Now in a new interview as she releases her new album Louise has gushed over her partner after her tough marriage breakdown and spoken candidly about their future plans. She told The Sun: 'Drew's great. We're having a lovely time together. It took me a long time to get to that place and be open about anything. 'I was very guarded and scared. But I'm really enjoying having special times with someone. He's a great guy and super-kind.' Asked if there are wedding bells on the horizon she added: 'Oh, I'm not even thinking that far ahead. I'm not even going there. 'I just want to be proud of this and I want to really enjoy it. I've met a really great guy and I'm really happy. But you never know what the future holds.' She added in the interview that her two sons really get on well with Drew which makes life much easier. Louise also hit back at 'toyboy' criticism due to their nine-year age gap. She said being branded a 'cougar' is 'water off a duck's back' to her and that 'age is irrelevant' as she doesn't 'feel older than him'. The interview comes after she recently revealed why she was painted as the 'villain' following her split from ex-husband Jamie. Louise opened up about being accused of walking out on her family and how everyone had an 'opinion'. She told the Independent: 'I was the villain. I'd been lucky in my career because for many years I didn't really have a lot of scrutiny. Then bang, everybody's got an opinion.' 'Anything someone could perceive as negative, I cut out. Nothing I said was right. To defend myself was wrong. To not defend myself was wrong. I felt like I was walking up a one-way street with just nowhere to go on it.' Elsewhere Louise said she is now ready to push out of her comfort zone and she even features a number of 'sex noises' in her new single. She is preparing to release a new album Confessions and is really adamant about making 'progressive music' instead of being 'nostalgic'. Louise said she doesn't care what people think despite friends questioning whether there are 'too many sex noises' in her new track Get Into It, which features moans of ecstasy. Speaking about co-writer Jon Shave, who worked on Charli XCX's album Brat, she said: 'I got a text from Jon asking, "Are there too many sex noises on this?". And I was like, "Jon, there can never be too many sex noises!" 'I've had a lot of feedback like that. And I do understand it. I've always kept in my lane, done what people expected. Now I'm saying, 'f*** it!' It came after Louise discussed her divorce from Jamie on the Happy Place podcast and credited her two sons for keeping her going during the breakup. She said: 'If I didn't have my kids, I think I would've just given up. I think I just knew that my kids were my everything and they needed me.' The singer admitted that the public scrutiny of her marriage breakdown made the situation even harder to deal with. She added: 'But I can honestly say, when you're going through something so personal in your own turmoil in your own way, but then to get the barrage of judgment and nastiness. 'I never realised people could be so unkind and say such terrible things. I blew my mind.' 'I was going through a lot as it was, I was trying to be strong for my kids, whatever had gone on in our life was private - which I do believe that you're entitled to no matter what. 'And God, I was such a villain, and I was breaking like I was absolutely breaking. 'Beyond what I thought it was possible for a human to break and all along I'm still trying to be a mum. 'And it was just like every time I went out, and I was trying to put a brave face on and do things, like that was wrong if I didn't. 'I felt like everything I did was so wrong.' Following the split, Jamie found love with Swedish model Frida Andersson and they tied the knot in 2021 before having a son together.

Meghan shares video of family trip to Disneyland for Lili's fourth birthday
The Duchess of Sussex has shared another intimate video of the family celebrating Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland. The post on Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, drawing comparisons with Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The montage also features a clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Disney princess Elsa, from the film Frozen. Meghan wears a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the video, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. The duchess captioned the video: 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' The footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. At the time, the royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows a number of family shots over recent days to mark Lili's birthday. In one, she posted a throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of herself cuddling Lili. In another post, she described how Lili's relationship with Harry was 'the sweetest bond to watch unfold'. She shared two photos of the princess with her father the duke, adding: 'Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!' Lili – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child – was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Lilibet is named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

Nicky Hilton reveals breast-feeding woes as she announces new venture
has opened up about the challenges of breastfeeding as she announced a new collaboration with the Nara Baby app. Sharing a photo of herself nursing one of her children Friday, the 41-year-old heiress also touched on the societal pressure to nurse. In a post for The 2amClub she wrote: 'I breastfed all three of my children, but it wasn't without its challenges. While I enjoyed the moments of bonding, the latching was often painful. I didn't find breastfeeding as effortlessly as I'd hoped.' She added: 'The expectations put on mothers can be overwhelming. 'We're just doing our best, and feeding our children - whether through breast feeding or bottle feeding - shouldn't come with guilt or judgment. 'You have to listen to your body and do what's right for you.' It was apparently her own experiences that resulted in Hilton announcing she was an investor in Nara Baby. 'Their innovative baby formula, launching this spring, is something I'm truly proud to be a part of,' she wrote next to the post with a link to the new formula company. She encouraged her fellow moms to follow her example and 'Share your feeding confession at Hilton shares daughters Lily-Grace, almost nine, and Theodora, known as Teddy, six, and son Chasen, three with husband James Rothschild, 39. Several fans shared their own experiences. 'Cheers to any mother who can breastfeed. And cheers to all mothers who do what's best to keep their babies fed, no matter what their own emotional preferences are,' commented one follower. 'Don't let anybody tell you what to feed and how to feed your baby,' admonished another. 'Wow, that's so inspiring! Can't wait to see your support making a real difference,' said a fan. According to the Nara Organics website, the new formula is made from organic whole fat cows milk and meets both U.S. and the stricter standards of the European Union. It brags of its product containing 'the most whole milk fat* of any U.S. formula,' offering to make the data available upon request. The company also developed an app that helps expectant moms track 'your body, mood, and medications during your pregnancy journey,' along with 'prenatal and other healthcare appointments' and questions they may have for their healthcare providers. After the baby is born, the app is said to help new parents and their caregivers 'log activities throughout the day.' Those include feeding time, naps, diaper changes and more. The company is building buzz by asking future customers to sign up for a wait list for the product that was supposed to be available in spring 2025.
