HMWSSB launches ‘Dial-a-Septic-Tank' service for safe waste disposal around ORR
In collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), the Water Board selected 50 septic tank vehicle operators for the safe transportation and disposal of waste at existing STPs and FSTPs. The operators were trained in scientific waste management practices and equipped with safety gear and uniforms.
The initiative covers 18 villages, seven municipal corporations and 18 municipalities around the ORR. It aims to ensure safe disposal of human waste without harming public health or the environment. All vehicles are GPS-enabled for real-time monitoring.
Residents can call 155313 or 14420 to book septic tank cleaning services.
Presentation on GHMC's best practices for JDA delegation
A delegation from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), led by commissioner Anandhi, visited the GHMC head office on Thursday as part of a tour.
According to officials, the visit is aimed at understanding GHMC's best practices. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan gave a detailed presentation to the visiting team, outlining key reforms such as the online TDR processing system, salient features of the 2017 TDR policy, and the single-window Build Now system for building and layout approvals. He said the TDR policy, in particular, has facilitated easier land acquisition for public projects.

Prajavani WhatsApp grievance number 7416687878 receives 25 grievances in a day
A day after announcing a WhatsApp number (7416687878) dedicated to receive grievances from people with disability, old-aged, those who attend work and others, the Hyderabad collectorate has received 25 grievances. The weekly programme Prajavani is conducted at all collectorates, including in Hyderabad, and other government offices to receive the grievances regarding their work in various departments including housing, pensions, municipal, electricity and others. The 25 grievances includes seven regarding works ta Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and nine in other districts. Hyderabad collector Hari Chandana Dasari, who announced the Whatsapp number, on Sunday (July 27, 2025) has urged people to utilise the service which helps in saving time and travel expenses. Ms. Hari Chandana said that people can submit write their grievances, take a photo and send it over WhatsApp. The collector's office would upload the grievance in a dedicated portal, generate ID numbers and inform people that their grievance was acknowledged. Later, an action taken report (ATR) would be sent to the mobile number of the person concerned. It was learnt that of the 1200 messages received over the WhatsApp number, several were from people congratulating/thanking for taking the initiative.

No OCs to building owners for illegal disposal of debris
Hyderabad: Building owners may be denied occupancy certificates (OCs) if they fail to properly dispose of construction and demolition (C&D) waste as Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is set to implement stricter regulations to tackle the issue soon. In this regard, the state govt has decided to introduce mandatory requirements for building owners to submit their C&D waste disposal certificate while applying for occupancy certificates with GHMC. The authorities are expected to issue a GO on these regulations within the next few weeks. Officials emphasise that the move would help reduce illegal dumping on roads, vacant plots, and water bodies, which has become a major environmental concern. "Under the proposed rules, property owners must engage C&D waste collection agencies to transport debris to designated processing facilities. They will need to maintain proper documentation showing the quantity of waste generated and its disposal method. As per the estimates, Hyderabad generates approximately 2,000 metric tonnes of C&D waste per day. There are four C&D waste processing plants in the city at Jeedimetla, Fathullaguda, Shamshabad, and Thumukunta, where citizens could deposit their waste. At present, a fine amounting to 5,000 is imposed on individual households, while a penalty of 25,000 is enforced on bulk waste producers, including builders, work contractors, institutions, and commercial establishments, for each violation where C&D waste is transported or disposed of in an unauthorised or hazardous condition. GHMC would also conduct regular monitoring and impose penalties on violators found disposing of debris improperly. Building owners who fail to comply with the new norms would face delays or rejection of their occupancy certificates. Meanwhile, under a comprehensive challan management system (CCMS), GHMC has issued nearly 4,000 penalties worth 70 lakh to residents and commercial establishments for various littering offences.

Waste-to-energy plant to be operational from Aug
HYDERABAD: A new waste-to-energy plant being set up in Jawaharnagar is in the final stages of preparation and is expected to start operating in August, according to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The facility is designed to process 300 tonnes of compostable waste per day using a method called dry bio-methanation. This is a fully enclosed system where organic waste is turned into biogas and compost. The biogas will be used to produce bio-CNG (compressed natural gas), while the leftover material will be turned into high-quality compost for agricultural use. Officials said this eco-friendly process is already in use in several European countries. It helps reduce the volume of waste and generates clean energy, which can replace fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions. GHMC officials said the plant uses the 'Muller 3A' method — a three-stage process involving aerobic (with air), anaerobic (without air) and aerobic treatment again. Unlike traditional wet biogas systems, the dry method used here doesn't need a lot of water or complex treatments. The entire process happens in a sealed environment, which prevents bad smells and leakage of dirty liquids. Benefits
