These 2 Royals Nearly Passed for Locals in Surprisingly Candid Photographs

Yahoo09-03-2025

Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark were so unrecognizable during their latest trip that they nearly passed as locals.
The royal couple recently embarked on a state visit to Finland, where they did everything from meeting with officials to skiing with the Finnish president, Alexander Stubb, and his wife, Suzanne Innes-Stubb. They even visited a local restaurant and enjoyed live music, all of which was captured on camera.
In the first photo, Queen Mary and King Frederik are nearly unrecognizable in head-to-toe-winter gear as they pose in front of a reindeer. It's followed by footage of the couple riding in a sleigh, along with a candid video from the restaurant.
The translated caption read, 'The state visit to Finland starts tomorrow, but already today we have enjoyed the magical Finnish landscape in Saariselkä in Lapland.'
It continued, 'Together with the Presidential couple, we have experienced the Finnish nature as it should be with cross-country skis under our feet. We look forward to starting the official visit tomorrow and getting up close to some of what Finland has to offer in the coming days.'
As I previously mentioned, Queen Mary and King Frederik went on a skiing excursion with the Finnish president and documented the outing on social media.
The translated caption read, 'Their Majesties the King and Queen visited Inari in Finnish Lapland together with the Finnish Presidential couple today. The official part of the state visit begins tomorrow, Tuesday, in Helsinki.'
It continued, 'On Wednesday, the program includes a visit to Aalto University, a seminar on the green transition and a visit to the Coastal Brigade in Upinniemi. The visit will further strengthen the strong relations between Finland and Denmark.'
These photos are priceless.

I Lived in Copenhagen for 6 Years—These 11 Scandinavian Style Tricks Are Still Influencing My Summer Wardrobe

Long days, wildflower crowns, and the faint scent of dill and woodsmoke in the air—summer in Scandinavia is one of the dreamiest experiences on Earth. Whether you're island-hopping in Sweden, biking through Denmark's countryside, or plunging into a chilly Finnish lake post-sauna, you'll want to dress the part not just for the photo ops (though they are excellent), but because the weather can shift from 60 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny to drizzly and cold in an hour. After six years of living in Copenhagen and exploring the Nordic region in every season, I've landed on a travel capsule wardrobe that works for beach towns, city strolls, and late-night bonfires. Layers are key, as is packing light, and Scandinavians prize minimalism; you'll find yourself happiest in versatile pieces you can rewear again and again. Below, you'll find Scandinavian style essentials that are practical, breathable, and made to move. From Vivaia's ballet-style sneakers to a Patagonia swimsuit that doubles as a bodysuit, here is how to build the perfect Scandi-inspired travel outfits. These Vivaia Sneakerina shoes combine the utilitarian feel of a flat with the polish of a lacey ballet style. They're ultra-lightweight, made with soft satiny uppers and rubber soles that provide serious grip for slippery docks and cobblestones. The viral shoes come with two sets of shoelaces, and they hold up beautifully to long city walks and unexpected summer rain. Shopping on a budget? Amazon shoppers have been eyeing the newly added Cushionaire Belinda Lace Sneakers, on sale for $48, for their European adventures and long travel days with lots of walking. This lightweight, cotton-blend Topshop maxi skirt adds instant elegance, without being too precious. It has sheer lace insets for a peek of leg and a flexible waistband that'll feel oh-so-comfy after a big seafood lunch. It rolls up nicely in a suitcase and can be dressed down with sneakers or elevated with a slinky tank. A dream for travel days or city dinners, this shopper-loved pleated dress camouflages wrinkles with its neutral pleats in the soft and airy material, making this perfectly packable. It's a breathable style. Despite the lightweight fabric, the dress is still machine washable—ideal when laundry options are limited. Bonus: it takes up barely any room in your suitcase. If you've got the budget, be sure to check out this Issey Miyake option that I'm a huge fan of. This Amazon matching set is breathable enough for the daytime, yet still cozy enough for cooler evenings walking by the water. The loose-fitting top can easily be paired over everything from slip dresses to linen trousers. In the mood for a splurge? From beloved Finnish brand Marimekko, this airy linen knit features bold florals in a neutral palette, making it a statement piece that's still easy to style. These high-rise pants from Everlane are made from a breezy linen-viscose blend that won't wrinkle as badly as 100 percent linen. The structured waistband gives them a polished look for dinners, but they're breathable and comfortable enough for all-day wear—even on long travel days or bike rides (just tuck one leg into your sock). Pockets are deep enough to stash your phone and keys. Shopping on a budget? Over at Quince, the 100% European Linen Wide-leg Pants in seven travel-friendly colors starting at $40. With a chunky heel and adjustable ankle strap, these 90s-inspired Vagabond sandals are ideal for going from outdoor markets to late-night concerts. The cushioned footbed makes them comfortable enough for full days on your feet. They also pack down flatter than you'd think, and go with nearly everything in a neutral-toned wardrobe. Shopping on a budget? These strappy Dream Pairs sandals deliver the same minimalist look with their mule-style profile for just $35. These Lululemon bottoms look like upscale boxer shorts, but they're built with movement in mind. The stretch satin-nylon fabric dries quickly, resists wrinkles, and feels cool against the skin—perfect for warmer travel days or layering over a swimsuit. With an elastic waist and wide leg openings, they're equally suited to hikes, festivals, and lazy afternoons in the park. This Patagonia swimsuit has a clean, classic cut and is made from recycled nylon with added stretch, so it stays in place whether you're swimming, cliff-jumping, or layering it under pants as a bodysuit. The scoop back and shelf bra offers support without wires, and it dries fast, especially handy if you're hopping between sauna and sea. Shopping on a budget? Cupshe's top-rated square-neck one-piece delivers the same sporty coverage and comfort in 21 color options for just $39. This compact belt bag fits the essentials—phone, wallet, sunglasses, maybe even a mini tube of SPF. It's water-repellant, super lightweight, and comes in a range of bold and muted tones, but the softer options like beige and caramel brown will look more elevated than your average nylon fanny pack. Wear it crossbody while biking or around your waist for hands-free museum hopping. If you want to upgrade your 'nice dinner bag,' this structured, Y2K-style buckle bag is surprisingly roomy. The nylon is smooth but durable, and the shoulder strap can easily be worn crossbody style, giving you multiple carrying options. A sleek way to finish off a minimalist capsule, you can also consider this option from Kalda if you're looking to invest in a popular Icelandic accessories label that every local in the know is talking about. These polarized, ultralight sunglasses offer full UVA/UVB protection and stay put—even if you're biking, boating, or hiking up a fjord. The adjustable nose pad and temple tips ensure a snug, customized fit. Plus, they look great with both sporty and city looks. Love a great deal? The Florida Panthers are gearing up for their third consecutive Stanley Cup Final, set to begin Wednesday against the Edmonton Oilers. Advertisement This marks the second consecutive season in which the Panthers and the Oilers will face off in the Final, with Florida winning last year's series in seven games. Meanwhile, on Monday, the NHL announced Panthers star forward Aleksander Barkov had won not only his third Frank J. Selke Trophy, given "to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game," but also his first King Clancy Memorial Trophy, given "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community." "That's two more trophies to add to Aleksander Barkov's illustrious resume!" the NHL wrote. Barkov was presented with both trophies in a heartwarming moment at the Panthers' practice facility. The team was scheduled to have a meeting when kids from Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital entered the room to share the news. The 6-foot-2 Finnish center has been a regular visitor to the hospital throughout his career, bringing joy and putting smiles on the children's faces. Barkov previously won the Selke in the 2020–21 and 2023–24 seasons. He is now one of six players all-time to win the award three times. The other five are Pavel Datsyuk, Jere Lehtinen, Guy Carbonneau, Bob Gainey, and Patrice Bergeron. Advertisement Barkov was drafted No. 2 overall by the Panthers in the 2013 NHL Draft and has spent his entire 12-year career in Sunrise. This season, he appeared in 67 games, recording 20 goals, 51 assists and 71 points. Gourmet Getaways: What It's Like To Stay At The JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa

Rooftop pool with views of Venice's skyline Just a short boat ride from Venice's Piazza San Marco, the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa offers a secluded escape on the private Isola delle Rose. Operating seasonally from March through November, the resort combines Italian luxury accommodations with expansive gardens, olive groves, and refined dining. Its location, overlooking the Venetian Lagoon, offers the best of both worlds, delivering proximity to Venice's historic core as well as a tranquil setting. Sagra Rooftop Restaurant The resort's eight dining venues highlight the diversity of Italian cuisine. Cucina, the main restaurant, offers à la carte options and a breakfast buffet featuring homemade pastries, a 'healthy corner,' a variety of hot and cold dishes, and an omelet station. It transforms into a seasonal pizzeria for casual, open-air dining during warmer months. Sagra Rooftop Restaurant serves dishes inspired by traditional Italian flavors. The family-friendly restaurant is open for dinner and late-night meals and offers panoramic views. Agli Amici Dopolavoro Venezia, led by Michelin-starred chef Emanuele Scarello and his sister Michela, delivers a unique fine dining experience with a pre-fixe menu that includes creative fare such as rose rice with raspberry powder and scallops with zucchini flowers, red bell peppers, and chicken skin chips. Petit fours at Agli Amici Dopolavoro For a hands-on culinary experience, the Sapori Cooking Academy offers small-group classes led by seasoned chefs. Participants learn to prepare Italian staples like pasta, risotto, and Venetian desserts. Specialized sessions include olive oil tastings from the resort's century-old grove and guided visits to local markets for fresh ingredients. Class sizes are limited to eight for a personalized experience. The loft-style Maisonette room is ideal for families. The resort, housed in a restored former hospital, opened in 2015 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The property contains 266 rooms and suites across five areas: the main building, La Residenza, La Maisonette, L'Uliveto, and the Villa Rose. Designed by Matteo Thun & Partners, accommodations feature high ceilings, garden or lagoon views, and, in select units, private plunge pools. La Maisonette rooms offer loft-style suites with private gardens and plunge pools, while the standalone Villa Rose includes two bedrooms, a private pool, and a secluded garden. Both are well-suited for families or groups. The JW Marriott Venice Spa features an indoor-outdoor pool overlooing the city's stunning lagoon. The JW Venice Spa, the city's largest spa, is a centerpiece of the resort, spanning more than 1,750 square meters. The spa's facilities include eight treatment rooms, a spa suite with a private terrace, a hammam, Finnish and bio saunas, indoor and outdoor vitality pools, and dedicated yoga and meditation gardens. Guests can enjoy a full menu of facials, massages, and body treatments by spa brand partner Maria Galland, including the signature 'Sensory Ritual and Velvet Rose' treatment that takes inspiration from the rose gardens surrounding the spa and resort gardens. The spa also offers a Couple's Spa Experience, featuring side-by-side 50-minute massages in the Spa Suite, followed by an hour of private relaxation with prosecco and fresh fruit. The resort's recently unveiled padel courts. Beyond the spa, guests can enjoy three swimming pools, including a family-friendly outdoor pool, an adults-only rooftop infinity pool with panoramic views of Venice, and an indoor-outdoor vitality pool at the spa. Additional amenities include a soccer lawn and courts for basketball, tennis, and pickleball. Two new padel courts recently opened. A complimentary 20-minute shuttle provides regular transport to Venice's city center. Visiting Venice's historic center is a must. Private tours with operators like The Tour Guy provide skip-the-line access to St. Mark's Basilica—known as the Church of Gold—guide you through St. Mark's Square and winding, boutique-lined streets to the Rialto Bridge, and conclude with a gondola ride along the city's canals. Explore the boutiques along Le Mercerie, one of Venice's premier shopping streets, and sample cicchetti—traditional small bites like fried mozzarella and arancini. For a quintessential and Instagrammable Venetian experience, visit Caffè Florian, Italy's oldest coffee house, established in 1720. Located just steps from St. Mark's Basilica, it serves robust coffees and decadent hot chocolates. While prices are on the expensive side, the historic atmosphere makes the cafe well worth a visit.
