Ranbir Kapoor Skips Celebrity Privilege, Says Rajeev Masand: ‘Stands In Queues, Eats Alone'

Ranbir Kapoor stands out in Bollywood with no PR or social media, managing his own schedule. Rajeev Masand praises his grounded approach, simplicity, and authenticity.
At a time when most Bollywood stars are flanked by entourages and driven by social media presence, Ranbir Kapoor continues to stand apart — quietly redefining what it means to be a superstar. With no personal PR machinery, no official social media presence, and often seen managing his own schedule, the Animal actor's low-key approach to stardom is now being applauded.
In a recent conversation on IndiaTV ShowBiz, former film journalist and Dharma Cornerstone Agency COO Rajeev Masand shared an anecdote that sums up Ranbir's refreshing simplicity. 'I was in a queue at the airport and saw Ranbir standing alone. No assistant, no team. It's not something you see with celebrities — they're usually surrounded by people," Rajeev recounted. 'I asked him, 'Where is your team?' and he just replied, 'What team?'"
Masand emphasized how unusual this is in today's film industry, where even a routine airport appearance is often treated like a red carpet moment, complete with stylists, managers, and paparazzi. 'When he walked out, sure, someone was there to pick him up. But till then, it was just him, like any other passenger," he said.
Ranbir's minimalist attitude doesn't just stop at airports. Masand added that even on foreign shoots, directors have mentioned spotting him having lunch alone in local cafés. 'It's who he is. I think that ability to blend in, to remain grounded, is what makes him such an intelligent actor. He believes staying connected to real life helps him portray characters more authentically."
Ranbir himself has touched upon this approach in earlier interviews. Speaking about his absence from social media, he said, 'I understand the power of social media and how it connects you with fans. But I'm okay not being part of it right now. Maybe someday I'll join, but I'm content staying away for now."

Ranbir Kapoor's Clean-Shaven Look, Drastic Weight Loss After Animal Leaves Fans Stunned

Last Updated: Fresh off the shoot for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, Ranbir has shifted gears to begin prep for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming romantic saga Love and War. Ranbir Kapoor is making headlines again and it's not for his film performances, but jaw-dropping transformation. The actor, who had bulked up and sported a rugged beard for his intense role in Animal, was recently spotted looking drastically leaner and completely clean-shaven. The video of his new look has now taken the internet by storm. Fresh off the shoot for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, Ranbir has shifted gears to begin prep for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming romantic saga Love and War. In a viral clip circulating online, the actor is seen in the city sporting a fresh, clean-shaven face and a slick hairstyle, noticeably slimmer than his Animal avatar. Dressed casually in a red tee and denim from his personal label, Ranbir waved at the paparazzi, posed for pictures, and even handed his cap to one of the photographers before stepping into his car. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) Fans who were used to seeing his wild, bearded look in Animal were stunned by the dramatic change. In Animal, Ranbir played the ferocious Ranvijay Singh, whose violent journey begins when his father Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor) is threatened. The film followed his descent into violence and eventual confrontation with his cousin Abrar Haque (Bobby Deol). It ended with a cliffhanger, setting up Animal Park, the upcoming sequel. Interestingly, Ranbir's grungy look in Animal almost didn't happen. Celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim recently revealed that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga was initially against the idea of long hair and beard, fearing it looked too much like Ranbir's appearance in Sanju. 'Had Ranbir's hair and beard not been long in Animal, I don't think his character would have the same impact," Aalim told Galatta India. 'Vanga sir initially said the long hair isn't working… I had to convince him that once the full look was in place, it wouldn't resemble Sanju." Despite criticism for its perceived misogynistic tone, Animal was a blockbuster, earning over Rs 915 crore globally. With Love and War now on the horizon, Ranbir's latest transformation has sparked fresh curiosity about what's in store next. First Published: June 05, 2025, 23:29 IST

Ahead of Ranbir Kapoor's version, Ramayan actor Arun Govil says no one from the current crop of stars can play Lord Ram

Actor Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, is not quite sure whether any Bollywood star can pull off the part. His comments arrive after Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush, a film based on the Ramayana, which faced significant backlash and was criticized for its visual effects, dialogues. Then there's Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi-starrer Ramayan. (Also read: Ramayana first review comes from Devendra Fadnavis: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash's film get high praise from CM) In an interview with NDTV, Arun said, 'Three-four people tried recreating it, [but] they were not successful. I don't think in our lifetime someone should try to recreate Ramayan. As far as some actor playing Ram [is concerned], all the available actors, all the stars at this moment - I don't think anyone is suitable. Maybe you can find someone outside the industry.' Arun portrayed Lord Ram while Dipika Chikhlia essayed the part of Goddess Sita in the immensely popular and highly lauded 1987 TV serial. For the unversed, the upcoming film on the Ramayana is one of the most anticipated films in recent times. Last year, fans got an exclusive peak into the transformation of Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Lord Ram and Goddess Sita as pictures from the set of the film were leaked. During the Waves Summit 2025 last month, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis hailed the film and said, "I was amazed to see the quality of Ramayana that you are creating. I think this is the way we need to tell our stories to the new generation, and I believe what you are setting up will be the best in the globe.' Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana boasts an ensemble cast, including KGF star Yash as Ravana. The film also stars Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, and Lara Dutta in pivotal roles. It is set to release in two parts, with the first part scheduled for Diwali 2026 and the second part in 2027.
