This expansion will be anchored by renowned Italian brands—Eleventy, Corneliani, and Poltrona Frau—with a series of store openings planned across key locations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Launch of new stores
As part of its strategic growth agenda, Majid Al Futtaim will open over 30 new stores across the region, spanning both luxury and high street brands. The expansion includes five standalone Eleventy stores, the regional debut of Corneliani, and the first Poltrona Frau store outside the UAE, to be launched in Saudi Arabia—showcasing Majid Al Futtaim's commitment to strengthening its footprint in the luxury retail sector.
'In a region where customers have an abundance of choice, our ambition is to curate a portfolio of luxury brands that offer something truly distinctive. By introducing brands like Eleventy, Corneliani, and Poltrona Frau, we are bringing new dimensions to the luxury market—combining timeless craftsmanship with modern sensibilities that resonate with the refined tastes of our customers,' said Fahed Ghanim, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Lifestyle.
Ghanim added, 'At Majid Al Futtaim, our work with luxury brands has been deeply rooted in THAT Concept Store, which has been instrumental in identifying and nurturing brands with strong market potential. Eleventy's journey—from its initial shop-in-shop to standalone stores—is a testament to our strategy of testing, scaling, and growing global luxury brands. This approach enables us to continuously evolve the retail experience and deliver distinctive offerings that resonate with our customers.'
Five standalone Eleventy stores set to open
The five standalone Eleventy stores are scheduled to open in 2025 at key locations including Solitaire Mall in Saudi Arabia, Mall of the Emirates, and Marsa Al Arab—all of which opened this month—with Dubai Mall and The Grove (UAE) to follow later this year. Known for its sustainable practices and premium materials, Eleventy reflects a growing consumer preference for quality and understated sophistication, under the 'Made in Italy' banner.
This expansion builds on Eleventy's existing regional presence, which includes a shop-in-shop at THAT Concept Store, a pop-up at Mall of the Emirates, and its first standalone location at Marina Mall Abu Dhabi, opened with Majid Al Futtaim in November 2024.
Strengthening partnership with Poltrona Frau
Majid Al Futtaim is also strengthening its partnership with Poltrona Frau, the iconic Italian luxury furniture brand, by opening its first store outside the UAE at Centria Mall, Riyadh, in May. Poltrona Frau achieved remarkable growth in 2024, with revenue increasing fivefold following the launch of its second UAE store at Mall of the Emirates.
Corneliani makes regional debut in Saudi Arabia
Italian menswear brand Corneliani made its regional store debut in April at Solitaire Mall in Saudi Arabia. Founded in 1930, Corneliani is one of Italy's oldest independent luxury brands, renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship and presence in over 70 countries. With the launch of its first standalone store in the Middle East, Majid Al Futtaim is bringing Corneliani's timeless suits and sophisticated casualwear to a broader audience in the region.
'Eleventy's philosophy of understated elegance and commitment to sustainability resonates strongly with the sophisticated Middle Eastern consumer. We are excited to strengthen our partnership with Majid Al Futtaim, whose visionary approach to luxury retail is shaping a new standard focused on customer needs,' said Marco Baldassari, Co-Founder and Menswear Creative Director at Eleventy.
'Since partnering with Majid Al Futtaim more than two years ago, we've focused on strategic growth and elevating the customer experience. The revitalisation of our flagship store in Jumeirah and our debut at Mall of the Emirates were key milestones. We're now excited to bring this momentum to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with our first store in Riyadh—further strengthening our presence in the GCC,' added Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau.
Continuing momentum in 2025
Majid Al Futtaim's expansion in luxury retail builds on a record-setting 2024, which saw a 26 per cent increase in revenue and a 31 per cent surge in digital sales across its lifestyle portfolio.
StLast year also saw the opening of 17 new stores across the region, bringing the total to 87—featuring flagship locations for brands such as lululemon, Psycho Bunny, Shiseido, Crate & Barrel, and CB2, alongside 27 e-commerce platforms. Looking ahead, 2025 is poised to be another milestone year, with plans to open 30 new stores across the region—including seven in Saudi Arabia, a key market for the group.

How to write that perfect CV in the UAE: Tips by an HR professional

One page can change your life. This one piece of paper is your invitation to a meeting, your certificate of excellence, and your chance to get a bumper raise before you've even begun a new job. What's on this precious note? Your CV. 'The worst thing you can do for your CV is write down your job description,' says HR veteran Anam Irfan, who has worked with the likes of Majid Al Futtaim and Tenaris, and across industries such as oil and gas and construction. The Pakistani expat, who has been in the UAE for 35 years, is currently the chief people officer and partner at byteSpark AI, and spoke to wknd. about the difference between a good CV and an effective one, what companies can do to draw and retain talent, and what you can do to boost your own profile in the tough-as-stone job market. Her firm is a headhunting initiative that uses AI to pursue candidates and link the right person to the right job. 'Our platform does a recruitment with speed, with efficiency. That, and we help people with CV-building skills,' explains Anam. If you are looking for a new job this year, you are, unsurprisingly, not alone. According to a survey by Censuswide, 75 per cent of the professionals in the UAE are searching for new employment in 2025. But to make your CV (and application) stand out, says Anam, 'Don't tell me what you were hired to do, impress me with what you have done. What you have achieved. A CV needs to be clear, concise, impactful. That means talking about outcomes, numbers.' To make things more engaging, she recommends paying attention to your personal brand. 'After all, if you don't write about your accomplishments on social media (or LinkedIn), how will a recruiter know about your abilities? With the new generation that is coming into the workforce, Gen-Z and Alpha, it will be all about the personal brand. They're all on social media, whether it's Instagram, or LinkedIn, or TikTok. If you want to excel, you need to up your game on these platforms.' Closing the gender gap As a woman who has worked in traditionally male-dominated industries, Anam says her formula for being seen and heard is simple: Show up with irrefutable data. 'If you have your own clear voice and influence at the table, and you come backed up with data — that's when magic really happens. I make sure that when I speak, it is with facts and figures, making them curious about 'why did she say what she said',' she adds. Having a comfortable relationship with your audience will also smooth your way to a receptive audience, the HR executive adds. 'You have to make sure that you're building relationships through the journey. Women have the gift of empathy; relationship-building is natural. When you do that, things become easy.' The first challenge to success — both when it comes to speaking to colleagues and presenting an argument (or counter-argument, for that matter), she says, is the negative self-talk that women tend to suffer from. According to a study, published by the US-based National Library of Medicine, positive self-talk has the ability to improve cognitive performance. 'We women sometimes lose out because we are very self-critical, thinking we need to over-prepare. Sometimes, we overthink and stop ourselves from expressing a certain viewpoint. You don't say it, but someone else does. And you are left reeling,' she says, adding that one needs to curb that instinct to keep mum at important moments. Don't tell me what you were hired to do, impress me with what you have done. What you have achieved. A CV needs to be clear, concise, impactful. That means talking about outcomes, numbers" Anam believes the foundation to professional success then begins in one's formative years. 'If you don't have a very good childhood, it impacts you and your personal skill set,' she explains. However, if you are taught resilience in the face of diversity, it will hold you in good stead. If you do find yourself without glowing personal skills though, remember that many things can be learned — all you need is a growth mindset; that ability to find lessons in everything. It's also why grooming is so important in a work place; it helps your discover and grow your abilities. 'You may have your own mindset and your own aspirations, but if the opportunity is not given in the right organisation, it changes everything,' she says. 'When I was just in training,' she recalls, 'I was already presenting budgets to CEOs — my mentors and leaders put me in the room and pushed me to learn by doing. My confidence was built up like this.' Anam is the mum of a six year old, and she laughs when asked about work-life balance. 'There is no such thing,' she says. 'For me, it's not about a work-life balance, it's really about integration. So, I have boundaries — at five, I have to leave. My son is six. He needs a mom. I need to spend at least couple of hours with him once he's back from school. He needs to have mealtimes with me. He needs to have his sleeping time with me. He needs to have some reading time with me. Once he's gone to bed, I can get back to any pending work that I have. The key is to know when to take a break and pause.' Corporations need to understand that you cannot have those legacy annual performance reviews. You need to move beyond that. Things are agile. That's where frustrations happen in employees — they feel it's not a fair assessment" Organisations too need a shift While she's quick to say that she's only worked in supportive firms, she does admit that the way many organisations do things leave a lot to be desired. 'Performance management systems are so outdated. There is usually an annual goal-setting in organisations and annual reviews; but the goal posts are constantly shifting. 'Corporations need to understand that you cannot have those legacy annual performance reviews. You need to move beyond that. Things are agile. That's where frustrations happen in employees — they feel it's not a fair assessment.' 'The other thing is, teaching employees about their potential growth trajectory. The more you know where you are heading, the greater will be your commitment to your cause,' she explains. At the end of the day, your turn with a company begins with an introduction — and you owe yourself the best one. Begin by working on an effective CV.

ALTÉRRA backs Absolute Energy to develop gigawatt-scale renewable energy capacity in Italy

ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD) ALTÉRRA, the UAE's $30 billion climate investment vehicle, has announced a €50 million commitment via the ALTÉRRA Acceleration Fund to Absolute Energy, a forward-thinking Italian renewable energy platform. The co-investment, made alongside global infrastructure investment manager I Squared Capital, aims to fast-track the development of an initial 1.4GW active pipeline of projects across Italy. Absolute Energy is focused on the swift deployment of multiple commercially viable small to medium-scale solar projects throughout the country. Through this initial phase — comprising 1.4GW of solar and battery storage capacity — and with a broader development pipeline exceeding 6GW, Absolute Energy is positioned to become a next-generation Independent Power Producer (IPP), advancing Italy's decarbonisation and energy independence objectives. ALTÉRRA estimates that the 1.4GW pipeline could eliminate up to 380,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions annually. Italy has set a national target of adding 46GW of new solar capacity by 2030 in support of its net-zero ambitions. With high solar irradiation levels and favourable policy support, the country presents a compelling opportunity for expanding solar infrastructure. Majid Al Suwaidi, CEO of ALTÉRRA, said: 'We are excited to support Absolute Energy as it enters its next phase of growth. With a strong pipeline and deep sector expertise, the company will help drive Italy's clean energy future. ALTÉRRA invests to accelerate the climate transition through innovative approaches and partnerships. In working with a global leader like I Squared Capital with their strong track record in platform building and investing in renewables, this investment further demonstrates how ALTÉRRA works with partners to invest at scale to accelerate impact across key markets.' Sadek Wahba, Chairman and Managing Partner of I Squared Capital, added: 'We are proud to welcome ALTÉRRA as a strategic partner in Absolute Energy. Their investment underscores the strength of the platform and the scale of the opportunity in accelerating Italy's energy transition. ALTÉRRA brings deep climate focus and ambition, and we share their commitment to deploying capital with urgency and impact. This partnership is a powerful endorsement of Absolute Energy's innovative model and I Squared's long-standing approach to building transformational infrastructure businesses in critical sectors around the world.'

Majid Al Futtaim awards $462mln contract for Dubai forest living project

UAE - Majid Al Futtaim, a leading pioneer in shopping malls, communities, retail, and leisure across the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, has announced two significant milestones for its forest living concept, Ghaf Woods – the establishment of a dedicated tree nursery to support the project's biophilic design concept and the appointment of Innovo Build as the main contractor for its first two phases. Spanning 738,000 sqm off the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Highway, near Global Village, Ghaf Woods will feature over 7,000 premium units, including one, two, and three-bedroom residences and penthouses. The community will also be home to Majid Al Futtaim's signature multi-purpose hub, Distrikt, which features a curated selection of retail and farm-to-table dining experiences, said the developer. Announcing the AED1.7 billion ($462 million) construction contract, Majid Al Futtaim said as per the deal, Innovo Build will be responsible for the construction of 13 buildings with a shared podium level across the Celia, Serra, and Lacina clusters. Ghaf Woods, it stated, was redefining the concept of living with nature and this milestone is a demonstration of the unique offering it brings. The development's forest ecosystem is set to outnumber residents and serve as a vital 'Green Lung' delivering up to 20% cleaner air and temperatures up to five degrees Celsius cooler than other areas of the city. Prioritising wellness, Ghaf Woods promises residents 8km of walking trails, a 3.5km biking loop, resort-style pools, fitness facilities, family-friendly gardens, and a yoga pavilion. On the dedicated tree nursery, Majid Al Futtaim said with Ghaf Woods set to become a model for sustainable forest living in Dubai, the nursery will be the cornerstone of this vision, where thousands of native and climate-resilient tree species will be grown and nurtured over the next 18 months. Today, it is home to more than 10,000 trees with that figure set to increase to 20,000 and 105,000 shrubs by May 2026. It will eventually grow to house up to 30,000 trees, which will then be transported and replanted across Ghaf Woods. Majid Al Futtaim has awarded a AED49 million nursery contract to Barari Natural Resources, part of Mawarid Holding Investment, to manage and oversee the trees care and cultivation. The facility will be home to a diverse selection of climate-suitable species, including Acacias, Citrus, Ficus, Melia, Phoenix, Tecomella, Ziziphus, and the iconic Ghaf. All species have been procured from Egypt (Nile Delta), India, Thailand, and the UAE – including Fujairah, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Abu Dhabi, it added. Majid Al Futtaim Properties CEO Ahmed El Shamy said: "The concept of Ghaf Woods has been years in the making with a vision for sustainable living at the core. Since its unveiling one year ago, there's been a clear and growing demand from people who are looking for communities that foster a deeper connection with nature and the environment." "Our investment in a purpose-built tree nursery, and the partnership with Innovo Build, Barari Natural Resources and Mawarid Holding Investment, is a vital step in bringing this vision to life," he added. Innovo Build CEO Sameh Fam said: "We are proud to partner with Majid Al Futtaim to deliver the early phases of a development as visionary as Ghaf Woods – a project that reflects our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability and community-centric design." "This project redefines traditional construction, and requires us to build in harmony with nature, not around it. Our team will approach this landmark development with the precision, care and focus on sustainability that cements us as a contractor of choice in UAE," he added. Mawarid Holding Investment CEO Kashif Shamsi said: "This nursery is a critical foundation for the forest ecosystem at Ghaf Woods. Our focus is not only on scale but also on biodiversity, resilience, and ensuring every tree contributes meaningfully to the project's long-term environmental impact." "As one of the largest plant nursery operators in the GCC, we are proud to collaborate on one of the region's most forward-looking developments, and excited to see the landscape grow from the ground up," he added.
