
IIT Delhi unveils online PG Diploma in Healthcare product development and management
New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): In a significant advancement aimed at transforming the healthcare innovation landscape, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced the launch of the first edition of its Online Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Product Development and Management.
According to a release, the comprehensive 12-month programme is offered by the Centre for Biomedical Engineering (a Joint venture of IIT Delhi and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi). It is designed to equip professionals with the technical expertise and multidisciplinary capabilities needed to design, develop and bring to market transformative healthcare solutions.
As per the release, this programme's integrated curriculum encompasses of biomedical innovation, regulatory science, product lifecycle management, and commercial strategy. This curriculum equips learners with a holistic, application-oriented education, it mentioned.
The release further said that a recent industry report anticipates India's healthcare market will expand to USD 320 billion by 2028. Meanwhile, the global wearable medical devices segment is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 27.4 per cent between 2023 and 2030. Against this backdrop, the programme aims to fill a critical skills void, preparing professionals for high-impact roles such as Healthcare Product Manager, Regulatory Affairs Specialist, Medical Technology Consultant and Health Data Analyst.
Speaking on the announcement, Prof. Arnab Chanda, Programme Co-ordinator and Associate Professor, Centre for Bio-Medical Engineering, IIT Delhi, added, 'Our vision for this programme is rooted in translational impact. We nurture interdisciplinary thinkers who can reimagine healthcare products by merging technology, design and clinical relevance.'
The Online Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Product Development and Management is ideal for professionals with backgrounds in biomedical engineering, biotechnology, healthcare, life sciences, or medicine, especially suited for those seeking to pivot their careers into healthcare R&D, product management or regulatory domains, the release stated.
The programme is delivered via LIVE, interactive online sessions conducted by IIT Delhi's distinguished faculty in collaboration with top doctors and leading industry experts. Learners will benefit from a dynamic pedagogy involving real-time simulations, case-based discussions and hands-on projects. An optional two-day campus immersion would enrich networking and academic exchange.
The curriculum spans 18 academic credits and includes foundational and advanced modules such as Biofabrication, Soft Tissue Characterisation, Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Wearables Design, and Entrepreneurship and Management in Healthcare. Learners will explore tools like Pick 3D Printer, Autocad, Arduino, UXUI, and AIML Community, among others, while engaging in capstone projects aimed at developing scalable healthcare solutions, it added.
This is open to candidates with relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degrees or those with at least two years of industry experience in allied fields.
The programme offers affiliate alumni status from IIT Delhi, enhancing long-term academic association and access to continued learning resources. Other program highlights include Academic credits stored in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), Optional Campus Immersion, Official Transcripts Issued by IIT Delhi, and Convocation at IIT Delhi. Global smartphone shipment forecast for 2025 revised downward over tariff uncertainty: Report
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Market intelligence research firm Counterpoint Research has lowered global smartphone shipment forecast for 2025. It has revised down its 2025 global smartphone shipment growth forecast to 1.9 per cent year-on-year from 4.2 per cent, citing uncertainties surrounding US tariffs. However, most regions will still likely see growth, except North America and China, according to Counterpoint Research's latest Market Outlook Smartphone Shipment Forecast Report. Price increases from cost pass-throughs remain a key focal point, although the tariff situation remains fluid and unpredictable. Commenting on the revised forecast, Associate Director Liz Lee commented, "All eyes are on Apple and Samsung because of their exposure to the US market. Although tariffs have played a role in our forecast revisions, we are also factoring in weakened demand not just in North America but across Europe and parts of Asia." Lee added, "We still expect positive 2025 shipment growth for Apple driven by the iPhone 16 series' strong performance in Q1 2025." Moreover, premiumisation trends remain supportive across emerging markets like India, Southeast Asia and Gulf countries - these are long-term tailwinds for iPhones, according to Lee. Counterpoint Research's current forecasts assume a relatively stable tariff environment through 2025, although the escalating rhetoric and uncertainty around trade policy could significantly impact manufacturer's pricing strategies, supply chain planning, and, ultimately, consumer demand. Commenting on projections for global smartphone shipment growth in 2025, Associate Director Ethan Qi said, "The bright spot this year - again - will likely be Huawei. We are seeing an easing around sourcing bottlenecks for key components at least through the rest of the year, which should help Huawei grab substantial share in the mid-to-lower-end segments at home." US trade team extends India stay as talks gather momentum
A US trade team that's currently in India for negotiations has extended its stay, according to people familiar with the matter, in a sign talks are progressing ahead of a July deadline. The team, which was initially scheduled to hold talks with Indian officials on June 5-6, will now be staying till Tuesday to continue discussions, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information isn't public. Most of the issues may get finalized within a week, the people estimated. India and the US are working on a phased trade deal with an early agreement targeted for July, the deadline for implementation of the so-called reciprocal tariffs. At the same time, those tariffs are facing legal challenges in Washington. India's Commerce Ministry and the US Trade Representative's office in Washington didn't respond to email requests for comment outside of regular business hours. Local Indian media earlier reported the extension of the visit. Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal described his meeting with US counterpart Howard Lutnick during a visit to the US in May as 'constructive.' Earlier this month, Lutnick said he's 'very optimistic' about prospects for a trade deal between the US and India 'in the not-too-distant future.' India was one of the first countries to begin negotiating a trade deal with the US, hoping to avert President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs, which are scheduled to kick in on July 9. The talks come against the backdrop of recent statements by Goyal in Paris on June 1, where he outlined that India and the United States are working toward providing preferential market access to their respective businesses. On Trump's plan to increase tariffs on steel and aluminium to 50%, Goyal told ANI that both countries remain committed to addressing trade issues through bilateral dialogue. "Let us wait and watch... both the US and India share good relations and we will continue to work together to resolve all these issues bilaterally," Goyal said.

IIT Delhi launches new BTech in design for academic year 2025-26
New Delhi: As part of its ongoing curriculum transformation, IIT Delhi is set to launch a new four-year undergraduate programme, 'BTech in Design', from the academic year 2025–26. This announcement follows the recent launch of the BS in Chemistry programme, which is open to candidates who qualify through JEE (Advanced) 2025. Admission to the BTech in Design will also be determined by JEE (Advanced) rankings. Additionally, applicants must qualify in the UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) aptitude test. "This programme is uniquely designed for empathetic, creative individuals who aim to comprehend socio-technical systems and develop solutions to their complex challenges," an official said. Students pursuing BTech in Design will learn about prevalent technologies, systematic design thinking processes, research methods for analysing socio-technical systems, communication and presentation skills, and teamwork. "This transdisciplinary curriculum merges the strengths of technology and design. The programme curriculum will pave the way for easy collaboration and partnerships between the design department and other departments, centres, or schools. The BTech in Design will place particular emphasis on product design. "The goal is to equip students with the confidence to leverage design as a tool for addressing real-world industrial and societal challenges by the end of the programme," the official said. According to officials, the recently launched BS in Chemistry aims to leverage the strengths of the IIT Delhi ecosystem of research and entrepreneurship. This undergraduate programme aims to develop next-generation chemical scientists and technology leaders for core chemistry-based industries, academia, and entrepreneurial ventures. The course curriculum is designed to lay a core foundation with a wide basket of electives in chemical sciences, which would be ideally suited for those interested in exploring opportunities in both basic sciences and engineering, or a combination of the two.
