Embrace Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association role with a united spirit: Pairin tells new Central Committee

PENAMPANG: Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan called on newly sworn-in Central Committee members to embrace their roles with a united and forward-looking spirit as the organisation embarks on its 59th year of service to the indigenous community. Speaking at the oath-swearing ceremony at Hongkod Koisaan on Tuesday, Pairin extended his heartfelt appreciation to both newly elected and appointed committee members, as well as outgoing office bearers who have served at the central and district levels. He described the occasion as a critical milestone in KDCA's continuing journey to empower the Kadazan Dusun and Murut communities. 'I wish to express my highest appreciation and gratitude to all KDCA members, from the Deputy Presidents, Secretary-General, Treasurer-General, their assistants and those appointed not only to the central committee but also at the district level as coordinators,' he said. 'Congratulations to all who have taken up this responsibility.' Pairin reminded members that with their new mandates, they would soon be engaging in a central planning meeting in Tambunan, scheduled for the end of June, to discuss KDCA's renewed vision and strategic direction. 'This is a responsibility that has been entrusted to each of us, and we must think deeply about our direction, our actions and how we intend to serve our community going forward,' he said. He acknowledged that while the association has made great strides since its inception in 1966, there is still work to be done. Pairin described KDCA's evolution as a journey that has now reached 'station 59,' in reference to the association's 59th anniversary, and urged members to reflect on the progress made as well as the challenges ahead. 'Our journey is one of continuity. 'While we started with many shortcomings, we have seen development. Yet, in this era of modernisation, we need to find new pathways. 'The environment is constantly changing and uncertain,' he said. Pairin reiterated KDCA's vital role in preserving and revitalising the cultural heritage of Sabah's native communities. He stressed that the association's efforts align with the Government's wider aspiration under the Sabah Maju Jaya development plan, particularly in promoting cultural preservation, job creation, economic participation and tourism development. 'Our association is not only important for KDCA members but for the community as a whole. 'We are involved in cultural preservation and heritage, but also in seeking economic opportunities for our people — especially in tourism, where festivals like Kaamatan serve as a catalyst for unity and development,' he said. He called upon the newly installed committee members to treat their appointments as a solemn trust, urging them to focus on KDCA's mission, strengthen collaboration with government agencies and ensure the association remains relevant and effective. 'When we go home, we must reflect and stay focused on KDCA's noble purpose. 'We must think about what else can be done through KDCA, with the cooperation of the Government, to ensure continued success and development,' he said. Pairin also encouraged prayer, unity and collective vision for the future of the community. 'Let us pray for God Almighty's continued guidance in our journey so that it will lead to prosperity for our people.
