Braves Make Alex Verdugo Decision Before Brewers Game

Braves Make Alex Verdugo Decision Before Brewers Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Given his presence as a veteran left-handed veteran bat, one would imagine that Atlanta Braves outfielder Alex Verdugo would see considerable action against right-handed pitchers. Advertisement Evidently, those days might be over. The Braves sat Verdugo on Tuesday despite the Milwaukee Brewers sending right-hander Quinn Priester to the mound. Verdugo only has six hits and a single RBI in his last 36 at-bats for the freefalling Braves. Braves manager Brian Snitker is instead starting Eli White in left field. The 30-year-old White is also slumping, hitting a measly .206 with a .537 OPS since May 1. Interestingly, Verdugo also didn't start against San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp in Sunday's 4-3 loss. Atlanta Braves left fielder Alex VerdugoDale Zanine-Imagn Images It's not a good sign for Verdugo, who looked like a steal in his first few weeks with the Braves, if he's now seeing limited action against right-handers. We'll see if the Braves opt to part ways with the experienced outfielder, who entered Tuesday hitting .247 with 11 RBI and a .613 OPS. Advertisement Either way, the Braves are likely to face some tough decisions over the next month. Atlanta is arguably baseball's most disappointing team at 28-37 and 13 1/2 games back in the NL East. The Braves are nine games out of the NL Wild Card race and are on pace to miss the postseason for the first time since 2017. MLB Makes Aaron Judge Announcement During Yankees-Royals Game

MLB Makes Aaron Judge Announcement During Yankees-Royals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. We interrupt tonight's New York Yankees-Kansas City Royals game to remind you that Aaron Judge is really, really good. Advertisement Judge continued his latest MVP push with a two-run, first-inning home run off Royals starter Noah Cameron. Already owning 23 homers on the season, Judge crushed a 469-foot blast to left field at Kauffman Stadium. According to Major League Baseball, Tuesday's blast marked Judge's 12th career home run of at least 465 feet. Whoever wound up with the home run ball can proudly say they landed the seventh-longest homer of Judge's incredible career. 'Don't think I've seen a ball hit out there in Kansas City,' wrote one X/Twitter user. 'I watched this in person,' a Royals fan commented. 'Ball was murdered. He should be charged in federal court.' Advertisement The official MLB X/Twitter account registered Judge's homer at 117.9 mph. New York Yankees designated hitter Aaron JudgePeter Aiken-Imagn Images Judge entered Tuesday hitting .396 with 55 RBI, 5.2 bWAR, and an incredible 1.264 OPS. It would take a disaster for him not to earn his third AL MVP in four years, and the Yankees appear well on track for a second consecutive AL East title. Judge has three home runs in eight June games, and he's not slowing down. "[He's] redefining power hitting," an X user commented. Indeed he is, and the Yankees are reaping the benefits. Giancarlo Stanton could join Yankees in Boston this weekend

Giancarlo Stanton could join Yankees in Boston this weekend originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Giancarlo Stanton will begin his rehab assignment Tuesday night with Double-A Somerset, marking his first game action since straining his left hamstring on May 24. Advertisement Before the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Stanton is scheduled to play again on Wednesday. The team will then reassess his progress and determine the next steps. Boone did not rule out the possibility of Stanton returning this weekend for a rematch against the Red Sox in Boston. Yankees slugger Giancarlo Carchietta-Imagn Images Stanton has not played in a game yet this season. He had shut down hitting in January, dealing with tendinitis in both elbows. It is something that he had been feeling since the previous season, but the pain was too much this spring. After two platelet-rich plasma treatments, Stanton has slowly been ramping up for a return. Advertisement While the Yankees have held steady without him, Stanton's return would deepen a lineup that continues to lean heavily on Aaron Judge. The current plan is for Stanton to DH in both rehab games. Stanton's Yankees tenure is marked by elite power and frustrating injuries. He debuted spectacularly in 2018 with 38 HR, 100 RBI, but frequent muscle and elbow issues limited him to about 54% availability since 2019. Despite injuries, he shone as the 2022 All-Star MVP and powered the Yankees to the 2024 World Series, winning ALCS MVP. Given Stanton's injury history, particularly with soft-tissue issues, the Yankees are expected to take a cautious approach. Still, with a high-profile series at Fenway Park on deck, the possibility of a weekend return, however tentative, remains on the table.
