The Chief Minister said that those found negligent at any level must be identified and appropriate punitive action should be taken. He emphasized that protecting the lives of common citizens is the top priority of the state government and no compromise with safety will be tolerated.
The Chief Minister stated that only those pilots with long-term experience of flying in high-altitude Himalayan regions will be allowed to operate. He also directed that DGCA guidelines should be made stricter and must be followed with 100% compliance. He instructed for the installation of more advanced weather forecast equipment in Himalayan regions for more accurate and timely weather information. He also directed the Rudraprayag district administration to make proper arrangements for sending the bodies of those who lost their lives in the accident to their respective states and to stay in contact with their families.

The experience of all helicopter operators and pilots in high-altitude Himalayan regions will be reviewed. Heli services will be resumed only after a comprehensive meeting with all operators. To ensure better coordination and safe operation of heli flights, a central 'Command and Coordination Center' will be established in Dehradun. This center will include officials from DGCA, the Disaster Management Department, Civil Aviation, UCADA, and heli operator companies. These directions were issued by Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami during a meeting held at the CM residence on Sunday. The Chief Minister directed the formation of a committee under the chairmanship of the Home Secretary, Uttarakhand. This committee will include representatives from DGCA, UCADA, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Government of India), and ATC. The committee will draft a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) giving top priority to public safety. The report will be submitted before September. Modi govt's negligence in not giving priority to aviation sector safety worrying: Congress
The Congress on Monday (June 16, 2025) accused the Modi government of being negligent in not giving priority to aviation sector safety and said that while it awaits the investigation report on the Ahmedabad plane crash, the Centre must clarify on the "lack of action" despite a parliamentary committee report flagging concerns. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh cited a media report which flagged that the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture had raised the issues related to safety in the civil aviation sector through a report tabled in the Rajya Sabha on March 25. "The Modi government's negligence in not giving priority to safety in the aviation sector is worrying. It is evident from media reports that there is a huge shortage of officers and personnel in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI)," Mr. Ramesh said in a post on X in Hindi. "53% posts are vacant in DGCA; 35% posts vacant in BCAS; 17% posts vacant in AAI," he said. How will safe flights be ensured when key departments dealing with aviation safety, inspection, regulation and operations are working at less than half their staff, Mr. Ramesh asked. "We are waiting for the investigation report on the air crash in Ahmedabad, but the lack of action despite the parliamentary committee report is a serious matter. We demand the government to clarify the situation and take necessary steps on this," the Congress leader said. His remarks come after the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 242 people on board crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1.39 pm on June 12. While 241 people on board the London-bound Air India aircraft died, one passenger miraculously survived. Besides, 29 persons, including five MBBS students, are reported to have died in the disaster on the ground.

Uttarakhand HC expresses concern over helicopter accidents on Char Dham route
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand high court on Monday expressed concern over the rising number of helicopter accidents during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra and called on the state government to take strict measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims. A division bench comprising chief justice G. Narender and justice Alok Mahra raised queries before the start of regular proceedings on Monday. Addressing chief standing counsel (CSC) Chandrashekhar Rawat, the bench raised pointed queries about the government's response to the repeated mishaps. The court noted that weather conditions in the Char Dham region were adverse and questioned the rationale behind allowing heli services to continue under such circumstances. Rawat said that the court has not taken suo moto cognisance in the matter. 'The court just raised some queries regarding the helicopter mishaps and I apprised court various steps that have been taken and are being taken' Rawat said that he apprised the court that state government is taking the matter seriously. 'I informed the court that heli services were temporarily suspended and that the government plans to implement a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to enhance safety protocols. I also informed the court that helicopter operations are governed by the guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The court has not issued any formal directions or orders in the matter'. While the court refrained from issuing any formal order at this stage, it directed the state to adopt stringent safety measures to prevent further tragedies. The court's response comes amid mounting concern over a series of helicopter accidents that have marred this year's Char Dham Yatra. So far, five helicopter-related incidents have been reported during the ongoing pilgrimage season, claiming 13 lives. On Sunday, a helicopter carrying pilgrims on the Kedarnath Yatra route crashed. All seven people on board, including the pilot, died in the accident.
