Deletion of 65 lakh names just the beginning, says Yogendra Yadav on draft Bihar voter list
Mr. Yadav said 'the real game begins now'. The category called 'not recommended by the Booth Level Officer' would come up for special scrutiny and that was going to be the first candidate for deletion, he said, adding that those people who would fail to submit documents in the next one month could also face deletion. 'The numbers could be huge,' Mr. Yadav said, and maintained that if anyone objected, a lot of other voters could also find their names deleted from the list. 'On these three grounds, people may still be eliminated. So 65 lakh is just the beginning,' he said.
The political analyst said that in the two districts which had higher concentration of Muslim population, Purnia and Kishanganj, the proportion was slightly below the State level. 'But not dramatically so, not alarmingly so,' Mr. Yadav said. 'The EC has been proclaiming from the rooftop that they have made these deleted names available to the political parties. Where is the list? Sadly, the EC has not released that list and the format in which the EC has released the information today makes it virtually impossible to compare it with the previous list,' he added. 'It is virtually impossible to extract that information, and that is not befitting a constitutional authority like the EC. The list conceals more than it reveals,' he said.
Mr. Yadav urged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise should be scrapped right away. 'It is absolutely unconstitutional exercise. This is not just an exercise for revision of electoral roll. It is an exercise for changing the architecture of India's universal adult franchise. For the first time, the onus is being put on the voter and the presumption is of non-citizenship. These two fundamental things go against the very tenets of universal adult franchise in a country like India,' he said.

Rahul, Congress trying to defame constitutional institutions: Law minister Meghwal
NEW DELHI: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has said that Rahul Gandhi should present his grievances about the polling process before the Election Commission, as he accused the Congress MP and his party of overlooking facts and defaming the constitutional institutions of the country. In an interview with PTI Videos, Meghwal said while the government is constantly requesting the Opposition to let the Parliament function smoothly, the aim of the Congress and its leader in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is beyond understanding. Responding to a question on Rahul Gandhi's demand for a discussion in Parliament on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Meghwal said, "I think the Opposition should look at the precedent of former Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar in this regard." "Jakhar had turned down a demand for a discussion in the House on the Election Commission's functioning given that the poll panel is conceived as an independent entity. It is on record, so they better check it and then talk," Meghwal said. On Goa government's renewed push for a Bill to reserve Assembly seats for Scheduled Tribes in the state, Meghwal said, "The population of Scheduled Tribes has increased in Goa but currently there is not a single MLA from the community in the state Assembly. Under the Bill which we are bringing, seats for the ST category will increase in the Assembly." "We are talking about the interests of the ST community, for which we are bringing the Bill. But the Opposition, including the Congress, does not want to discuss this issue. Their objective is not understandable," he added. Asked about the objections raised by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and leaders of some opposition parties on CISF deployment in Rajya Sabha's Well, Meghwal, who is also the minister of state for parliamentary affairs, said an incident had happened in the Lok Sabha where two men jumped off the visitors' gallery. "This was a decision taken by the Lok Sabha speaker and Rajya Sabha chairman. What does the government has to do with it? They (Opposition) should talk to the Chair about this," Meghwal said. There was a major security breach during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha in December 2023 when two men, both carrying canisters emitting yellow smoke, jumped off the visitors' gallery and ran into the Lok Sabha chamber. Asked about the status of the ongoing process regarding the removal of Justice Yashwant Verma over the alleged recovery of a large sum of unaccounted cash from his official residence in Delhi, the law minister said the matter is pending with the Lok Sabha speaker.

'...Because I've Proof': Rahul Gandhi Repeats 'Atom Bomb' Remark Despite EC's Rebuttal
Last Updated: Rahul Gandhi continued to attack the Election Commission despite the poll body's rebuttal to his "voter theft" allegations. He alleged that general elections were "rigged". Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday continued his blistering attack on the Election Commission of India, alleging that the election system in the country 'is already dead" and the Lok Sabha polls last year were 'rigged". Without providing any evidence, Rahul claimed that he has 'proof" of electoral malpractices. His remarks came for the second straight day, even after the poll body described his allegations as 'baseless" which are being made on a daily basis. The Congress leader on Friday had attacked the ECI, accusing it of indulging in 'vote theft" for the ruling BJP and issuing an 'atom bomb" warning. 'The things we found are an atom bomb. And when this atom bomb explodes, you won't see the Election Commission in the country," he said yesterday, prompting a response from the ECI. 'Election Commission ignores such baseless allegations being made on a daily basis and, despite threats being given daily, asks all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements while working impartially and transparently," the ECI said. Rahul Gandhi Attacks ECI Again The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition said that he will prove to the people of the country that he general elections were 'rigged". 'We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged," he said at the Annual Legal Conclave- 2025. 'The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India is the Prime Minister of India with a very slim majority… If 15 seats were rigged, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India," he added. He claimed that the Opposition will present proof in front of the country that the 'institution of the Election Commission does not exist". 'It has disappeared. It has taken us 6 months of non-stop work to find this proof…You will see with zero doubt how a Lok Sabha election is stolen. 6.5 lakh voters vote and 1.5 lakh of those voters are fake," he said. Rahul Gandhi said that he had always been suspicious about the election system in India since 2014, when Congress lost power at the Centre. #WATCH | Delhi: At the Annual Legal Conclave- 2025, Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says, 'I've been speaking recently about the election system. I always had a suspicion that there was something wrong, right from 2014… I had a suspicion in the Gujarat Assembly… — ANI (@ANI) August 2, 2025 He cited Assembly elections in Gujarat and questioned the BJP's 'ability to win sweeping victories". 'Congress Party doesn't get a single seat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, this was surprising to me," he said. He said that the Opposition won most Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and went on to lose the Assembly elections badly just months later. 'And then 4 months later, we didn't just lose, we were obliterated. Three formidable parties suddenly just evaporated. We started to look seriously for electoral malpractice," he said. 'We found it in Maharashtra, 1 crore new voters show up between Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. Bulk of those votes go to the BJP… Now I say with absolutely no doubt that we have proof," the Congress leader added.
