Charli XCX Wants To Join A Final Destination Movie After Bloodlines, And I'm Loving Her Pitch For A Sequel

Dear readers, it just might be time to call it Final Destination summer, and I say that fully knowing that Bloodlines' spot on the 2025 movie schedule came way before Memorial Day weekend. But between Bloodlines' morbidly beautiful box office, and the rave reviews the picture has snagged, people are still going to be talking about this smash hit horror show.
Singer/actor Charli XCX is one of those people, and her reaction comes with a pitch for a sequel - which, of course, leaves a prime spot for her to jump on board. Her idea rests on a key point about the Final Destination movies, and even comes with suggested castings and directors!
Taking to TikTok as she prepared to see the latest entry from directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, the pop star got right to brass tacks. Showing that she probably has a Max subscription that allows her to stream all of the past installments, Charli XCX boiled down the entire Final Destination series to this premise:
The reason I love these movies is that they really are just about hot people getting killed. There's no like moral backbone to the story. It's just like, they're hot, they're cursed and they deserve to die. And these films do so well, like, no matter who's in them.… It doesn't matter who's in these films, they do like, super, super well.
Even though our Final Destination Bloodlines review highlights that there's more of a tenderness to this round of Death's grand plan, what Ms. XCX said above makes total sense. Much as the slashers of yore that pitted photogenic young people against the foe of the moment, putting pretty darlings through the meat grinder is a bedrock of horror tradition.

I mean, how would you explain some of the outfits and decisions made in the heat of something like the Friday the 13th series? Charli XCX gets that, and with that thought in mind, the pitch for a Final Destination sequel shared below sounds less like fan fiction and more like a viable idea.
While on first glance Charli XCX's Final Destination pitch sounds like it could be the remake of The Neon Demon no one asked for, her grasp on both the genre and this particular formula sidesteps such criticism. Here now is the story pitch, as well as a pretty stacked casting list that should be reaching out to their agents ASAP:
And so I was thinking, 'Shouldn't there be a sort of, 'It Girl' version to this franchise? You know? Like a Final Destination … with kind of like Rachel Sennott, Alex Consani, Gabriette, Romy Mars, Me, [Quenlin] Blackwell, Devon Lee Carlson. Maybe there's a scream queen in there, like Jenna (Ortega), maybe there's an OG scream queen...like Sissy Spacek.
I don't know about the rest of you, but Death stalking a bunch of supermodels, actors, and influencers through Hollywood sounds kinda cool. The set pieces could range from a fashion show gone deadly, a pop concert leading to a huge wave of destruction, and potentially the most disastrous audition - for what else, a horror movie.
Also, Charli XCX deserves a ton of credit for fleshing this idea out, right down to the inclusion of Jenna Ortega and Sissy Spacek as the 'scream queens' to hold down tradition. But if that's not enough proof of the 'Guess' singer's love of the genre, check out her list of dream directors to make it a reality:
And then it's also directed by a horror auteur, like Ti West, or Coralie [Fargeat]. Or play into the B-movieness of it all and get Robert Rodriguez to do it, and everybody's getting completely massacred. ... I don't know, maybe take a big swing and get [David] Fincher to do it. Imagine.
Final Destination Bloodlines showed that there's still life in this franchise yet, and who wouldn't want to throw a couple log trucks on the fire to bring it back again? I don't want to be presumptuous or anything, as my heart is still broken over Charli XCX's rumored Narnia casting not coming to pass. Still, surely one of her concerts would be the perfect venue for Death's plan to reach all of those 'It Girls' waiting to die.
I hate that this is the point where I have to remind everyone that this is all merely a hypothetical scenario, and the franchise powers-that-be would need to turn the wheels to make it all happen. However, if all of this talk about Final Destination has you excited to dance with death once more, fear not.
Bloodlines is still in theaters, with the rest of the series streaming on Max. Meanwhile, I'll try not to imagine David Fincher directing a mortality-filled tribute to his 'Vogue' music video, or any of the other delicious possibilities Charli XCX has now left us all to ponder.

Flyer does not prove assisted death legal for minors in Canada
"Looks like the Canadian gov't reccomends (sic) offering MAiD to our children," says the caption of a May 20, 2025 video shared on Facebook. "Unbelievable! They have to be stopped!" The clip, viewed more than 35,000 times, includes images of what appears to be a brochure discussing a recommendation from Canadian lawmakers to expand assisted dying to mature minors. Similar claims citing the pamphlet as alleged proof of changes to MAID spread in online articles and on X, TikTok and Instagram. The posts gained traction as bills allowing assisted death are currently under debate in France and the United Kingdom. Canada first legalized MAID, intended for people with a "grievous and irremediable" medical condition, in 2016 (archived here). Different forms of euthanasia are also legal in other jurisdictions outside Canada. Initially, a person's natural death had to be "reasonably foreseeable" to be granted the procedure, but updates in 2021 opened eligibility to people whose deaths were not immediately imminent (archived here). False and misleading claims about MAID in Canada frequently surface online, often in posts alleging the program is being opened up to children. In 2023, a parliamentary committee did recommend that mature minors should be given the right to choose MAID. But as of June 3, 2025, people under 18 years old have never been eligible for the procedure in Canada. "The eligibility criteria set out in the Criminal Code require that a person must be a minimum of 18 years of age and capable of making decisions with respect to their health," said Mark Johnson, spokesman for Health Canada. "The Government of Canada is not considering any legislative changes to this requirement that minors cannot be assessed for nor receive MAID." Additionally, a reverse image search reveals that the pamphlet highlighted online was printed by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada in 2024, as part of a push to discourage the expansion of access to the procedure (archived here). It did not come from the Canadian government, as the posts imply. A Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying studied issues related to MAID between 2021 and 2023 (archived here). During this time, individuals, experts and advocacy groups presented their points of view on what could be changed in Canada's approach to assisted death. Following the testimonies, the committee recommended that mature minors should be eligible to access MAID with safeguards in place, including restrictions limiting requests for people under 18 years old to only those whose deaths were reasonably foreseeable (archived here). The government responded to the recommendation with concerns about balancing minors' personal autonomy with safety, and it did not include any provision allowing medically assisted death for people under 18 (archived here). "This could only happen if legislation was introduced and passed to change the Criminal Code," said Alisha Hall, spokeswoman for Dying With Dignity Canada, a group that advocates for mature minors to be allowed the right to choose MAID. Hall told AFP that since Dying With Dignity's report to the committee in 2022, it had not made any further presentations to government bodies on MAID and mature minors (archived here). While some of the posts referencing the pamphlet also implied that MAID could be used by those dissatisfied with life, Canada requires an applicant to have a "grievous and irremediable" medical condition. According to the Justice Canada website, MAID applications need to be approved by at least two medical professionals, and information must be provided about how to withdraw a request (archived here). The ministry also says people applying for the procedure who do not have reasonably foreseeable deaths must be informed about alternative options of treatment. The latest annual report on MAID recorded that 95.9 percent of people who received the procedure in 2023 did so while their deaths were reasonably foreseeable, with cancer being the most frequently cited underlying condition (archived here). Those whose deaths were not foreseeable reported living with issues such as diabetes, frailty, autoimmune problems and chronic pain, according to the report. Some argue the availability of the procedure can leave other issues unaddressed, including those surrounding quality of life for people living with disability or in poverty. Media have previously reported on applicants seeking medically assisted death for social reasons including isolation, and practitioners struggling with requests for MAID from people living with disabilities or difficult economic situations. Offering MAID as an option for people suffering solely from a mental illness was slated to go into effect in 2024, but this change was postponed until at least March 2027 (archived here). Tellico Plains families fighting to regain full access to historic cemetery
TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WATE) — Several families in Tellico Plains have had to go to court to keep a cemetery gate from being locked. The historic cemetery borders the Cherokee National Forest in Monroe County. There are a lot of people buried at the Holly Springs DeHart Cemetery, which is about a 20-minute drive south of Tellico Plains. Folks who have family at the cemetery are upset that they were denied access for a while. Teresa Crowder, Shirley Woods, and Brittany Brannon have been visiting the Holly Springs DeHart Cemetery for years. Each has relatives at the historic graveyard. 'I have been coming since I was a little girl. I remember staying out here for hours with my grandparents,' said Brannon. 'My parents, my grandparents, my great grandparents. Aunts, uncles, cousins, you name it, they are here,' Woods added. New hotel could be coming to Morristown, city council considers height restrictions There are several hundred headstones at the cemetery, some of the oldest dating back to the Prock family, who first settled in Monroe County nearly 200 years ago. Recently, a fence was put up by Richard Rogers at the cemetery entrance. Rogers bought property next to the graveyard and built a garage. To get to his RV, Rogers uses the cemetery entrance. But, he attached a sign to the fence restricting visiting hours to one Sunday a week for just four hours. He's also blocked the only exit to the cemetery. 'This is a historical cemetery. It should never ever be closed, never. My great-grandparents, I have one set here, another set here. My daddy is over here, he's got seven brothers and sisters buried right down there,' said Rita Burnette. 'We do spend a lot of time here. Family means everything,' said Brannon. For a few days last week, the fence was locked and no one could enter. 'A judge signed off on where he can't close it again. But he still has the exit coming down from the cemetery blocked with logs,' said Brannon. Locals, tourists recall major Gatlinburg crash that injured seven The logs blocking the exit have been a big inconvenience for more than a year. On Memorial Day, dozens of families came to visit their loved ones. 'I've been here and they would be all the way up this hill, coming in from the main road all the way down through here. The cars would be lined up. We cannot go the exit out of here,' said Woods. 'We have to turn around, and it's very hard to turn around.' 'It's caused me a lot of stress. It's caused everybody stress. My mom is 81 years old, I'm not going to have her walk from the road,' said Teresa Crowder. Marine veteran Richard Rogers greeted us warmly as we asked him about the gate he put up and the logs that block the cemetery exit. 'Well, I've been getting shot at by a couple of neighbors and harassed. But that's all I'm going to say because right now it is litigation,' Rogers. He claimed that he was being harassed and shot at by neighbors. He specifically said that a man named Don Lee was harassing him. 'He came up and criminally trespassed on my property again,' Rogers said. 'It's been repeated.' 'Don't hire him' Customers out thousands after contractor leaves jobs unfinished Lee refuted Rogers' claim, saying that it was not true and the claim was because he was taking Rogers to court. 'Because I'm taking him to court over this road, and he's sore about that,' said Lee. Families want to see the gate and logs removed permanently to enable them full access to the cemetery every day of the week. Families who filed the lawsuit against Rogers told us they'll be back in court in two months, fighting to have the gate and logs removed. Gates around cemeteries serve several purposes, including defining boundaries, deterring trespassing and vandalism, and maintaining the sanctity of the grounds.
