KOTA BARU: One of the male suspects, the son of a doctor involved in the 35kg compressed cannabis and pistol seizure here, greeted the media with a brief "morning everyone" as he was brought to a Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday (Aug 12) for a remand extension, Sinar Harian reports.
The 23-year-old suspect addressed media personnel as he walked towards the court lockup under tight police escort, the Malay language daily reported.
He, along with his 34-year-old brother and their 46-year-old mother, arrived in orange lockup attire at the court premises at 8:45am in a Black Maria.
They were arrested during a police raid at a bungalow on Aug 5 and are family members of a well-known doctor in his 60s from Ketereh.
The raid, conducted at approximately 4:30am by a team of officers and personnel from the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), uncovered cannabis believed to have been smuggled from Thailand and stored in boxes and bags at the bungalow.
In addition to the cannabis and a Glock pistol, 16 bullets and four luxury vehicles, including a BMW and a Mercedes Benz, were seized, with the total estimated value of the seizure being RM420,000.
Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat previously confirmed that the two male suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine, while the female suspect tested negative.
The doctor, who owns a renowned clinic in Ketereh, has had his statement recorded and claims to be unaware of the criminal activities occurring at his residence.
All suspects were initially remanded for seven days starting last Tuesday (Aug 4).
The process for the remand extension is currently underway.

Man dies after being stabbed in front of his family home in Seremban

SEREMBAN: A man who had been engaged for just two weeks was fatally stabbed in front of his family home in Taman Sri Pagi. In the incident at 6.50pm, Muhammad Amirul Rasyid Mohd Niza, 28, was stabbed in the chest by a 31-year-old man. Tragically, the single father had planned to shop for his wedding gifts on the night of the incident. The victim's younger brother, Muhammad Amirul Hakim, 27, told Sinar Harian that he was chatting with the deceased outside their house when a car stopped nearby. "I thought it was my brother's friend. But a man got out of the car, approached us, and without saying anything, stabbed my brother in the chest. "I immediately screamed and held onto the suspect to prevent him from escaping while cradling my blood-soaked brother," he said. He added that the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by residents who tied him up with a rope," he said, adding that the victim was still alive at that point. "There was so much blood, and my mother fainted upon seeing my brother's condition. At the time of the incident, 10 of my other siblings were at home. What happened was a huge shock to our family because it occurred so suddenly," he said. The deceased had just returned home after taking his only child out for a walk. Since separating from his wife a few years ago, the deceased's child had been cared for by the family. "The deceased worked at a restaurant and stayed at a worker's hostel in Taman Lavender Height, Senawang. He had been engaged for two weeks and planned to marry this year. "Last night, he was supposed to buy his wedding gifts," he said. Muhammad Amirul Hakim stated that he and his family did not know the suspect and were unsure of the motive behind the incident. "To my knowledge, the deceased had no enemies. I was very close to him, and usually, wherever he went, we would go together," he said. The body of the deceased arrived at Surau Taman Sri Pagi for prayers at 2.48pm before being buried at the Islamic Cemetery in Senawang, Forest Height. Previously, Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din stated that initial investigations revealed the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim. "The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife, causing the victim to die at the scene. A medical officer from Hospital Tuanku Jaafar who arrived at the location confirmed the victim's death at 7.28pm," he said. He added that the suspect was apprehended with the help of the public, and the knife used was seized. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and the suspect is remanded until August 18. "The exact motive behind the incident is still under investigation, and the public with relevant information is urged to come forward to assist in the investigation," he said.

Terengganu police seize RM6.3mil worth of meth

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu police dismantled a drug distribution syndicate and seized 198.9 kg of methamphetamine worth RM6.3 million on July 28. State police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said the seizure was made through an integrated roadblock operation by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division and Traffic Enforcement Division of the Kuala Terengganu district police headquarters in Sungai Ikan on the Kota Baru-Kuala Terengganu route at 5pm. He said the drugs were found in two cars, a Mercedes Benz and a Perodua Myvi, which the suspects had abandoned in front of residents' houses in Kampung Felda Belara after fleeing a roadblock. Police found that two cars had made sudden U-turns before fleeing towards Kota Baru. After a five-kilometre chase, police managed to find the abandoned vehicles in front of villagers' houses. "The results of the inspection found seven polystyrene boxes containing 188 packages filled with drugs which could be used by 995,550 people," he said at a press conference at the Terengganu police contingent headquarters here today. Mohd Khairi said initial investigations found that the drugs were brought in from Kelantan to be distributed to markets outside Terengganu, including the Klang Valley. According to him, the police have identified the owner of the Myvi car, but are still tracking down two suspects, including the drivers who are believed to be locals. Police have been unable to identify the owner of the Mercedes because its chassis had been damaged. "Members of the public with relevant information can contact the Terengganu police contingent hotline at 011-67351234," he also said. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
