NFL division power rankings ahead of 2025 season

NFL division power rankings ahead of 2025 season Teams have taken shape for the 2025 NFL season. Free agency moves have been made, draft picks have been chosen and some trades have occurred. The time is ripe to look at the eight divisions and see how they stack up. Only the strong survive in the National Football League. Don't expect some of the lesser lights to menace when it comes to regular-season play and the Super Bowl. 8. AFC South The AFC South may have the first overall pick in the Tennessee Titans' Cam Ward but that's about all it has to offer when it comes to intriguing new players. The Houston Texans were 10-7 last year and failed to improve upon their previous season's surprising win total. The Jaguars have a new front office -- again -- and the Colts are still waiting for Anthony Richardson to prove he is a franchise QB. 7. NFC South Will the South rise again in the NFL? It doesn't look like it will happen in 2025 as the AFC is the cellar dweller and the NFC isn't far behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the most ordinary division dynasty in league history. The Saints can't get anything right. They signed Derek Carr and he delivered nothing before retiring. The Falcons have redefined mediocrity and the Panthers fell so far that it is hard to recognize how much progress they are making, which they are. 6. AFC East This is no knock on the Buffalo Bills. They are the dominant team in the division and a threat every year to make a deep playoff run. The other three teams are not exciting. The Patriots will rebuild under Mike Vrabrel. The Jets are continuing to spin and hope Aaron Glenn is the answer with Justin Fields at QB. The charm has worn off Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins, who win games against lesser teams and lose to better ones. 5. NFC West The division offers thrilling finishes and a run for the playoff spot. However, none of the teams come in threatening to win a bunch of games and run away with the division. Expect the San Francisco 49ers to be much better since they can't have more injuries than last season. The Cardinals should take another step, moving them over .500. Will Sam Darnold make the Seahawks better than Geno Smith? Uncertain. And the Rams defend their title by adding Davante Adams, which should make Matthew Stafford a happy quarterback. 4. AFC North The Ravens are the class of the division and should remain that barring injuries and an unexpected collapse. Look for the Bengals to improve in 2025 if they can figure out how to stay at .500 or above through the first four games. Don't be fooled by the fact that Aaron Rodgers would make the Steelers better. Ben Roethlisberger probably has more to offer, and the Cleveland Browns are, well, the Cleveland Browns. 3. NFC East This division is split between teams that are threats to make playoff runs and those likely to be wondering about where there draft pick will land come November. Philadelphia will have a bunch of new players, especially on defense, as it looks to defend its Super Bowl title. Remember, NFC East teams tend not to repeat as division champions. The Washington Commanders are the "it" team in the league after Jayden Daniels' arrival in 2024. The Cowboys somehow have Brian Schottenheimer as coach. The Giants have a gaggle of quarterbacks and none of them are going to make defensive coordinators lose sleep. 2. AFC West Four coaches with Super Bowl experience in one division is quite the resume. Pete Carroll has his work cut out trying to turn the Raiders into a decent football team, let alone a playoff threat. The other three teams each have to be considered possibilities to make the postseason. When will Andy Reid and the Chiefs take a step back and not win the AFC West? Is Jim Harbaugh going to have the Chargers ready to try and capture the division? And no one should be surprised if Sean Payton has the Broncos ready to rock a bid for the AFC West crown. 1. NFC North The NFC North had three teams win 40 games last season. That equaled the most won by four teams in any other division. And that's with the Chicago Bears going 4-13. This division may not see the three teams reach those heights again but it is definitely tops.

All love for Tre'Davious White in return to Buffalo Bills

All love for Tre'Davious White in return to Buffalo Bills Veteran cornerback Tre'Davious White's return to the Buffalo Bills has brought nothing but good vibes and smiles to One Bills Drive. White, the Bills' first-round draft pick in 2017, shined during his initial stint with the Bills from 2017-2023. As the first pick in Sean McDermott's head coaching career, his selection was an absolute home run for the struggling franchise. At the time, Buffalo was mired in the throes of a 17-season playoff drought. White helped with the turnaround, being part of a stellar defense that helped the Bills return to playoff prominence. White earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors during his first seven seasons in the NFL. He led the NFL with six interceptions in 2019. Moreover, White's infectious personality and energy connected with the locker room and the fan base. After all, how many NFL players have their own goalie academy? The LSU product was Buffalo's top cornerback and one of the best players in the NFL. However, injuries derailed his ascent as the top defensive player in the league. In 2021, White tore his ACL, ending his season after 11 games. After a long, arduous rehabilitation, White returned to the field for six games in 2022. Tragedy struck again in 2023, as White tore his Achilles tendon just four games into the campaign. After that injury, Buffalo's front office made the difficult decision to let White go as part of a salary cap move. White bounced around the NFL and signed asigned a one-year, $3 million contract in April with the BIlls. The move helped shore up a questionable secondary. White might not be the player he was in the early part of his career, but his charisma and leadership will be on full display. Already, teammates are excited to have White back in the fold. Christian Benford, now Buffalo's No. 1 cornerback, gushed about White's presence at OTAs. 'It's awesome because he's pretty funny. He's an awesome guy. Great soul. I'll be chilling, and he brings, like, mad energy, so it's good to have somebody like him in the building, in the DB room,' per The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia. Slot cornerback Taron Johnson reiterated Benford's assessment: 'Having guys like that back in the building, man, it makes my job so much funner. He's been through some tough, tough injuries. But just seeing him bounce back and him still having that same attitude is great.' Johnson added, 'Having one of my best friends back, like, it's great. I couldn't ask for much more.' More importantly, the man who gave White his initial opportunity in the NFL is excited to see No. 27 back in his secondary. Sean McDermott shared how great it is to have White as part of the Buffalo football community once again. 'It's great to be reunited because of who he is, what he stands for, how hard he works. I can't say enough good things about Tre and what he means to me personally, and then what he's meant to our football team.' While it's all smiles with White back in Buffalo, it's important to note that there's some business to address. White will face some competition for snaps, and his path to starting duty may be a bit difficult. Benford is the No. 1 cornerback in the room. Buffalo drafted Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston with their first-round pick in April's draft. Buffalo brought back Dane Jackson as a free agent as well. Ja'Marcus Ingram has shown flashes of starting ability as well. Even so, it's hard to see this signing as anything but positive for the Bills. Younger players, such as Hairston, will lean on White for guidance. Buffalo was the only place that White was interested in playing. 'This place is so, so special. This is the only place that I really want to be and do it the right way, hopefully get a Super Bowl here and I'll be a part of it. Buffalo, the team, and the community are excited that White is once again part of the special place as well. Bills Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 offseason.

Panthers' Jaycee Horn ranked surprisingly low on PFF's top CBs list

Panthers' Jaycee Horn ranked surprisingly low on PFF's top CBs list Well, maybe Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn does have room to bounce back in 2025 after all. Pro Football Focus released their list of the NFL's top 32 corners on Tuesday. And Horn, even after earning his first Pro Bowl selection as well as a massive four-year, $100 million contract extension earlier this year, sits all the way down at No. 25 in the rankings. John Kosko, a PFF contributor, wrote the following on the former eighth overall pick: Horn is talented but has struggled with injuries in the NFL. Despite being the league's second-highest-paid cornerback, Horn ranks only 23rd in PFF advanced coverage grade over the past three seasons and 23rd in standard PFF coverage grade (79.6) across the past two. Horn produced some better-looking results for the more conventional stats in 2024. The 25-year-old posted career-highs this past season in combined tackles (68), sacks (2.0), passes defensed (13) and, most importantly, games played (15). PFF had Horn ranked 30th in their list prior to the 2024 campaign. Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content.
