The trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and there has been no shortage of rumors surrounding baseball. For the Cleveland Guardians, the main rumors seemingly surround All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase and Gold Glove outfielder Steven Kwan.
While trading Kwan or Clase could boost the future in Cleveland, it would be a tough pill to swallow. Clase's future is seemingly up in the air still, but ESPN's Buster Olney recently suggested the Guardians wouldn't look to trade Kwan this season, noting the idea as "unlikely."

"The player asked about the most on the Guardians' roster is Steven Kwan, but given that he's 2 1/2 years away from free agency, it's unlikely he'll be traded, according to sources," Olney wrote in a post to Twitter/X on Tuesday. "His slash line this year: .288/.352/.398, with 11 stolen bases."
Trading Kwan never seemed to make sense for Cleveland. This team went deep into the postseason last year and lost to the eventual American League pennant-winning New York Yankees. It's not like the Guardians need to blow their roster up.
If Kwan was on an expiring contract, this idea would make sense, but he's not. There are still two additional years of arbitration left on his deal for the Guardians to take advantage of.
Kwan is a building block in Cleveland. The team is talented. It's more likely Cleveland will give him a contract extension in the offseason rather than trade him right now.

Former Sixers star James Harden ranked top-7 point guard in NBA

James Harden's tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers ended on a sour note. However, there's no denying that during his time with the franchise, he showcased why he was the 2017 MVP. Even at his advancing age, Harden's playmaking, shot creation and shot making were among the best in the NBA. That's why his decision to leave the franchise stung. Since joining the LA Clippers, Harden has thrived in a lead ball-handling role. Last season, he ranked in the top-10 for MVP voting, was an All-Star and got named to an All-NBA Third Team. He did all of that while averaging 22.8 points, 8.7 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game on 50.1 effective field goal percentage. Courtesy of his strong performances, Harden was recently named the seventh-best point guard in the NBA by HoopsHype's Frank Urbina. "The ageless James Harden has done well to transform his game, from being a high-volume scorer to being one of the best playmaking floor generals in the game today," Urbina wrote. "...Blend that in with his elite playmaking and ability to get to the basket and finish, and you have an All-NBA floor general, even at nearly 36 years old. What remains to be seen is how far a Harden-led team can make it in the postseason." Assuming the Clippers can remain healthy, Harden and the Clippers will likely be among the contenders in the Western Conference next season. Even as he nears his 36th birthday, Harden is still an elite talent, and questions likely remain over how things could have turned out if he'd stuck with the Sixers long-term. Fortunately for Sixers fans, the franchise has an exciting young core of guards to cheer for, with Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe all expected to impress next season.

Certified! Former Iowa football star makes splash play in NFL preseason debut

Undrafted rookie Jay Higgins IV comes up with a @Ravens INT!INDvsBAL on @NFLNetworkWatch live out-of-market preseason games on @NFLPlus Every Iowa fan knows how good Jay Higgins was as a Hawk. Across his final two seasons at Iowa, Higgins had a combined 295 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and five interceptions. He was named an All-American following the 2024 season and was easily one of the best linebackers in the entire country. That's why everyone was surprised when Higgins went undrafted in April. It seemed like teams judged Higgins based on his measureables, instead of on his play. Regardless of the reason, it was disappointing for the former Hawkeye star not to hear his name called on draft weekend. But he ended up landing in one of the better situations he could've asked for. Higgins signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the draft. The Ravens have a knack for developing talent that other teams passed on, and it seems like Higgins is the next example of that. And it didn't take long for Higgins to remind everyone just how good a linebacker he is. He made his NFL debut on Thursday night when the Ravens hosted the Indianapolis Colts for their preseason opener. And with the Ravens clinging to a five-point lead halfway through the fourth quarter, Higgins did something he always found a way to do at Iowa: make a big-time play in a big-time moment. Higgins read the quarterback like a book, undercutting the route and coming up with a big turnover that helped the Ravens secure a 24-16 win. Higgins finished the game with three total tackles and two passes defended, including that big interception. It's the kind of play that can help an undrafted free agent make the roster, which is what Higgins is hoping to accomplish. It was great to see a former Hawk make a big play in his NFL debut and show everyone why he was a stud at Iowa. Hawkeye fans can catch Higgins and the Ravens play their next preseason game on Saturday, August 16, when they play the Dallas Cowboys at 6 p.m. CT. FedEx Cup Playoffs: Russell Henley Splashes Barefoot Shot to Avoid Bogey

The FedEx St. Jude Championship is heating up in Memphis, and while Tommy Fleetwood made headlines with four consecutive birdies to close out his second round, it was Russell Henley who delivered the most jaw-dropping moment of the day. On Friday, at Hole No. 3, Henley found his ball resting precariously on the edge of the water at TPC Southwind. But instead of taking a drop, the 36-year-old Georgia native kicked off his shoes, rolled up his pants and stepped inside the water. "Oh, how good is that out of the water?" one announcer exclaimed in disbelief, as captured in a video posted by PGA Tour on X. Henley saved par on that hole, keeping himself in contention to continue the battle. Shoes are optional, right Russell? 😅 — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) August 8, 2025 Henley entered the FedExCup playoffs in strong form. On Thursday, he posted a 4-under 66 in Round 1, trailing leader Akshay Bhatia by four strokes. Bhatia had fired a career-best 8-under 62, while Fleetwood followed closely at 7-under par. On Day 2, he started his round at 1:45 p.m. ET alongside Justin Thomas with a par on the opening hole. The five-time PGA Tour winner's season has been quietly impressive. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and has logged nine top-10 finishes, including a T2 at the Travelers Championship and T10s at both the U.S. Open and The Open Championship. Now Henley's consistency has pushed him into the top six of the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, putting him in line for an automatic spot on Team USA for the showdown at Bethpage Black this September.
