The Boston Celtics are reportedly converting two way point guard JD Davison to a full roster spot to fill their final open roster spot, according to new reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania. The Alabama native will answer the question of what the Celtics planned to do with their 15th regular roster spot, which has been open for the entire 2024-25 NBA regular season.
The deal will be a standard, two-year contract, per the senior ESPN reporter, presumably covering the remainder of this season and next. Davison has not popped at the NBA level in the limited run that he has had this season, appearing in just 15 games and putting up 1.6 points points per game. But despite having played for Boston for three seasons now in a two way role, the University of Alabama alum is still very young at just 22 years old, and has been tearing it up at the G League level.

There, he logged an impressive 25.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on his way to winning this season's G League Most Valuable Player award with the Maine Celtics.

Davison may still be unpolished and unused to the NBA game, but with plenty of room to grow, the vision Boston has for him is evident.
He likely won't see the floor in the postseason this year save for blowouts, but Boston will need to continue to develop low-salary options for depth for the foreseeable future, and it's hard to make a better case to invest in a player than the season Davison has had in the G League.
