Brazilian ambassador to visit Co Wicklow this weekend

Since she first began capturing reflections, movements, and transformations in Dingle, County Kerry, in 2009, Brazilian-born Taves has been developing a visual archive centred on water.
A member of Visual Artists Ireland and current president of the Bray Camera Club, selected works from her Water Colour collection have been showcased in group exhibitions internationally, including at the Carrousel du Louvre in France, as well as in Belgium, Osaka, Helsinki, New York, Rio de Janeiro and Dublin.
Working from her Wicklow studio, Taves' photographic practice blends abstraction, documentary, and poetic sensitivity. Capturing moments with both digital cameras and mobile phones, her instinctive approach is attuned to the subtleties of light, environment, and the emotional resonance of water.
In her work, water becomes a metaphor for impermanence, time, and the urgent concerns of the present, especially in the face of the climate crisis, with her reflections on water inviting viewers to contemplate not only the natural world but also the fragility of life itself.
Looking ahead to the exhibition launch, Taves said she will be delighted to welcome guest speaker Mr Macieira, who attended her innovative exhibition, Page by Page, with his wife, Mrs Josieane Macieira, in Arklow Library in January.
'2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Ireland, and having Mr Macieira here to open the exhibition helps mark that significant milestone,' she said.
Water Colour will open on Sunday, May 18, from 3 pm to 5 pm. The exhibition will run until June 8 and be open between 10 am to 4 pm from Wednesday to Saturday, and from 12 pm to 4 pm on Sundays.
A bus can be booked via the Courthouse website at a cost of €10 per person. It will depart from the Signal Arts Centre in Bray at 1.45 pm and return from Tinahely Courthouse at 5 pm.

Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins on ‘ridiculous' feud rumours

There has been speculation that the two co-stars had drifted apart after being on the HBO show, which follows the lives of guests and staff at a luxury resort as dark secrets are revealed and tensions rise over the course of the holiday. The third series sees the positive Chelsea, played by British actress Wood, 31, try to keep her mysterious older boyfriend, Rick, played by 53-year-old US actor Goggins, calm in Thailand. Following the 2025 series, Goggins appeared to step away from his fellow co-stars, and unfollow Greater Manchester-born Wood on Instagram. They both addressed the swirling rumours during a joint interview for US publication Variety, which was published on Wednesday. Goggins said: 'There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman (Aimee) madly, and she is so important to me.' He added that 'she's special', and explained he had not addressed the reports before as he did not want to talk about Wood when she was not there. 'I think it's such a comment on where we're at culturally. Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don't give a shite about Instagram,' Wood said. Goggins said that when he finished The White Lotus he 'needed to just back away from everyone', as it is his 'process' when filming a project ends. 'It's all so ridiculous,' he said. 'It's just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for f****** ever.' Wood previously criticised a Saturday Night Live sketch, with an cast member impersonating her with exaggerated prosthetic teeth, calling it 'mean and unfunny' on Instagram. She told Variety that it 'felt misogynistic. It felt like the punchline was a woman's appearance, which is just not funny. It's not cool'. Goggins shared the same sketch online and praised Jon Hamm for playing a version of his character, before deleting the Instagram post, ahead of hosting SNL> He said he was 'gonna say it (something) to your face', and added: 'I don't use social media in any way, and I'm not a mean guy.' SNL apologised for the April sketch, according to Wood, and the comedian and cast member who impersonated her, Sarah Sherman, sent her flowers to apologise. Wood is also known for Netflix teen show Sex Education, BBC comedy Daddy Issues and the 2022 drama film Living with Bill Nighy. Goggins has been in Western series Justified, post-apocalyptic series Fallout, and drama Sons Of Anarchy. He has had two Emmy nods, while Wood has won a TV Bafta for Sex Education and been given a Rising Star Bafta nomination.

White Lotus stars dismiss 'ridiculous' feud rumours

The White Lotus co-stars Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins have both denied rumours that either of them are in a feud as "ridiculous". Tennis star says she 'hates' practice partner after beating her at French Open

Tennis star Mirra Andreeva has playfull stated that she 'hates' practice partner Daria Kasatkina after beating her at the French Open on Monday. Russian tennis ace Andreeva needed just two sets to get the job done and march through to the quarter-finals for a second consecutive year. Andreeva made it all the way to the semis in last year's tournament, and she will take some beating this year after dismantling all four of her opponents in straight sets. Kasatkina was the latest player to feel the 18-year-old's wrath on court, and she put up a tougher fight than those before her but still got sent packing with a 6-3 7-5 defeat. Russian star Andreeva was full of praise for Kasatkina - in her own unique way - as she admitted that the 'torture' she puts her through in training has made it a love-hate relationship. "Honestly, I'm so happy I won because I hate playing against her," said Andreeva. "We practice a lot, and even the practice is torture for me. It was a hell of a match. She raised her level and I just knew if I could continue to believe in myself, I would win. "My coach says you have got to practice with people you don't like. That's why I practice with her a lot — because I hate her! I'm joking, of course. She's a great person, a great player, so I knew this match was going to be tough and I'm just happy to be back in the quarter-finals." A look at Kasatkina's pre-match comments proves that the love-hate aspect of their relationship goes both ways. The Russian-born competitor, who has just started representing Australia, said: "I hate her... just kidding. "This is the way we communicate. We're just giving a little s*** to each other all the time and just joking around. We are very good with each other. "We were having an ice bath together a couple of hours ago after [our third-round matches]. I can even say that I think we are kind of friends. She's super young and super talented, so she will achieve a lot of things." In the quarter-finals Andreeva will be up against home contender Lois Boisson, who pulled off a major upset by beating third seed Jessica Pegula in the fourth round. Coco Gauff also made it through on Monday with a routine win over Ekaterina Alexandrova, which included a bagel in the first set.
