New Delhi: National security adviser Ajit Doval met with Chinese foreign minister and senior communist party leader Wang Yi in Beijing on June 23, with both sides calling for the 'overall development' of bilateral ties.
Doval, in China to attend the 20th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Security Council Secretaries, held bilateral talks with Wang, who also heads the Communist Party's Central Foreign Affairs Commission.
China is set to host the SCO leaders' summit in September, though the dates are yet to be formally announced. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend what will mark his first visit to China since the start of the border stand-off in 2020.
According to readouts issued by both capitals, the discussions reviewed recent developments in India-China relations. India's Ministry of External Affairs said the two sides reaffirmed the need to 'foster greater people-to-people ties' and 'underscored the need to promote the overall development of the India-China bilateral relations'.
'Counterterrorism'
This was also the first in-person meeting between Doval and Wang since their phone call in May, which took place on the day India and Pakistan agreed to halt four days of intense military clashes. Following the ceasefire, the Indian army reported recovering Chinese-origin weaponry from Pakistani positions, including fragments of a PL-15 long-range air-to-air missile that landed inside Indian territory.
India's readout of the meeting had a pointed reference to counterterrorism. Doval 'emphasised the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region,' according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
New Delhi had described its strike on Pakistan during the clashes as a counter-terrorism operation targeting sites housing terror infrastructure. The Indian action came in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

Monday's meeting comes just 10 days after top diplomats from both countries met in New Delhi. At that June 13 meeting between Indian foreign secretary Vikram Misri and visiting Chinese vice-foreign minister Sun Weidong, the two sides had identified the resumption of direct air connectivity as the next step towards normalising ties, alongside visa facilitation, media exchanges, and economic dialogue, following the restart of the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
Wang said that the two sides had made 'positive progress' in recent months and should build on that momentum by deepening communication and mutual trust. He reiterated China's longstanding view that 'dragons and elephants dancing together' could yield 'win-win results' for Asia and the world.
He called on both sides to "show the historical wisdom of the two ancient civilisations" by properly managing sensitive issues, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas.
Doval, as per the Chinese press release, reportedly stated that both India and China 'should view bilateral relations from a long-term and strategic perspective, understand and tolerate each other, and expand common interests.'

The accused, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, both residents of Pahalgam, were produced before a local court in Jammu and remanded to NIA custody for five days for further interrogation. According to the NIA, the two men knowingly sheltered the three armed terrorists in a seasonal hut at Hill Park before the attack, providing them with food, shelter, and logistical support. The terrorists were identified as Pakistani nationals affiliated with the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The NIA stated that the accused disclosed the identities of the three attackers during interrogation. This development marks a significant breakthrough in the Pahalgam terror Attack investigation, as it confirms the attackers' Pakistani origin and their links to LeT. Initial police sketches released shortly after the attack, which included one local suspect, have now been deemed inaccurate by central agencies, raising questions about the early handling of the investigation. CM Omar Abdullah also provided an update on infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir. Thanking the PM Narendra Modi government 'for approving a package of ₹ 10,600 crores', the J&K CM said, 'I am thankful to the central government for approving a package of ₹ 10,600 crores for connectivity infrastructure yesterday. A tunnel for the Mughal Road, Sadhana Tunnel, and flyover projects. It is a huge step to increase connectivity'. CM Abdullah says, 'We had promised the people that we will develop the infrastructure... Our focus is not just on tourism infrastructure.' "People had been demanding a tunnel at the Mughal road for a year-long connectivity. Soon, the work for the tunnel on the Mughal Road will begin." CM Abdullah said.

‘Victory for India': Muslim cleric praises Operation Sindhu amid Iran-Israel conflict escalation
New Delhi: Amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, prominent Muslim cleric Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi has praised the Indian government's swift response in evacuating its citizens from the war-hit region under 'Operation Sindhu'. Why give opportunities to those from a country that harbours terrorists and has caused immense pain to India?" Razvi said, referencing the 26 Indian civilians killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam, which was planned by Pakistan-based terror groups. "This film sends the wrong message to Indian society", he noted. Razvi further recalled India's strong retaliation in the form of 'Operation Sindoor', which targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan. Calling for a boycott of 'Sardaar Ji 3', Razvi urged the Indian government to ban the film and initiate legal action against Diljit Dosanjh and the involved actors. Pappu Yadav likens current political climate to ‘undeclared Emergency'
New Delhi: On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency -- widely regarded as one of the darkest chapters in Indian democracy -- Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav strongly criticised the current political climate, likening it to an "undeclared Emergency." Speaking to IANS on Tuesday, Yadav took aim at the ruling BJP, asserting that the present situation mirrors the authoritarianism of the past, albeit without formal declaration. Attacking the ruling dispensation, he said that institutions like the "Supreme Court, ED, CBI, and Election Commission are all working at the BJP's behest. No one can speak now." Training his guns at the BJP on the issue of black money, he said that the BJP does not want to talk about real issues. "Just look at the BJP on its record of employment generation, have they delivered their promise on giving two crore jobs?" he asked. "What is the update on the handling of Agniveers? Our currency is going down compared to the dollar. Have you brought back the black money?" he told IANS. On speculation over Arvind Kejriwal's entry into the Rajya Sabha, Yadav accused him of prioritising personal ambition over governance. He further alleged that Kejriwal is desperately eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat and could even replace Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to fulfil his political goals. "He is obsessed with money and power. Corruption runs in his veins," Yadav said, calling Kejriwal the 'B team' of the BJP. Yadav claimed Kejriwal imposed elections in Punjab for selfish reasons and said the AAP leader now lives in a 'delusional world.' 'He made Delhiites suffer, failed to deliver on Lokpal, and now dreams of entering Rajya Sabha through the backdoor,' Yadav alleged. Don't forget 1971 and her leadership. Yes, Emergency was dark, and people punished her -- but then people brought her back, too. Let the people decide,' he added. On the Iran-Israel conflict, Yadav accused the US of forcing a ceasefire. 'Iran is our historical ally, and we must introspect. Trump's actions have surpassed Hitler,' he said, warning that war is being used as a business model by global arms dealers.
