Andhra Dy CM Pawan orders 24/7 monitoring of elephant movement in Chittoor, Tirupati
During a video conference on Tuesday, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed recent incidents of crop destruction and the death of a farmer following an elephant attack. Pawan Kalyan stressed the need for real-time alerts to be issued through village-level WhatsApp groups, enabling timely warnings about elephant movement. He instructed that these alerts be monitored by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) offices and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF).
He also called for immediate implementation of measures to divert elephant herds away from farmland and back into forest areas using non-invasive techniques. Officials also reported a new incident in Chandragiri constituency, where a herd of 11 elephants, including four calves, damaged fields near Satya Sai ST Colony close to Kalyani Dam.

Malik's death was announced by associates through his own X account today, August 5. Malik has been governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Goa and Meghalaya. Official government websites had it that Mallik entered politics in 1965-66, inspired by the socialist ideology of Rammanohar Lohia. In 1975, he was appointed the All-India General Secretary of the newly formed 'Lok Dal', and in five years, was nominated as the Member of the Rajya Sabha from the Lok Dal. In 1984, Mallik became a Member of the Congress. In 1986, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha. A year later, he resigned from the party and his parliament membership over the Bofors scam and formed a political party, the Jan Morcha, which was merged with the Janata Dal in 1988. In 1989, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Aligarh, on a Janata Dal ticket. In 2004, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested the Baghpat Lok Sabha seat. He rose through the BJP ranks, occupying key posts, including that of the all-India incharge of the Kisan Morcha of the BJP. He was appointed Bihar governor in 2017, Jammu and Kashmir governor in 2018, Goa governor in 2019 and was governor of Meghalaya from 2020 to 2022. Telangana woman falls prey to cyber scam, loses Rs 1.61 crore
HYDERABAD: A 54-year-old housewife from Hyderabad has fallen victim to a sophisticated online fraud, losing Rs 1.61 crore to scammers promising lucrative returns through part-time jobs and cryptocurrency trading. The victim lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Cybercrime police, detailing a well-orchestrated scheme that began with a seemingly harmless WhatsApp message which turned out into a series of coercive financial demands. The fraud began on June 2, when the woman received a WhatsApp message inviting her to join a part-time job via Telegram, involving tasks such as rating hotels. The scammers, posing as representatives of reputed companies, quickly shifted her to an 'economic task' requiring investment in cryptocurrency trading. Initially, the victim paid Rs 2,000 and received Rs 2,800 in return, building trust in the scheme. Encouraged, she invested Rs 5,000, followed by Rs 42,000 and Rs 1,48,000 for subsequent tasks, as directed by the fraudsters. The scammers then claimed she had made errors, demanding escalating payments to 'correct' mistakes or unlock higher returns. They coerced her into paying Rs 2,98,000, promising Rs 7,80,375, and later Rs 6,00,000 to boost her credit score, with a promised return of Rs 16,80,375. Further demands included Rs 11,69,262 for another alleged mistake, Rs 8,51,891 as a tax, and Rs 37,24,404 to 'upgrade' her account level. When told she needed to pay an additional Rs 50,00,000 to correct yet another error and Rs 45,00,000 as service charges, she complied, driven by assurances of recovering her investment.

Odisha: Students of Sambalpur varsity face action over threat message to juniors
SAMBALPUR: A day after first-year students of Brahmani Girls' Hostel in Sambalpur University were allegedly subjected to intimidation by their seniors, the state government on Monday sought an urgent report from the authorities of the educational institution on the matter. The Higher Education department directed vice-chancellor Prof Bidhu Bhusan Mishra to submit a detailed report on the incident immediately. Following the directive, the university convened an emergency meeting of the anti-ragging committee and formed a fact-finding team to inquire into the matter. Subsequently, several senior postgraduate students were made to submit written undertakings, declaring not to repeat such behaviour in the future. Sources said on Sunday, a WhatsApp message reportedly sent by a second-year student was circulated in the hostel group. In the message, all first-year students were instructed to attend a meeting at 10.15 pm with a warning that those who fail to comply would be forcibly removed from their rooms. Intimidated by the tone of the message, the juniors showed up at the study hall in the night. They were reportedly forced to surrender their mobile phones and made to stand for nearly two hours. The meeting, which continued till midnight, allegedly involved humiliating instructions. In-charge registrar Ashok Behera said the students who had sent the message clarified that they had no intention of ragging. However, the tone of the message and the time at which it was sent to first-year students was not appropriate. Though the second-year students have already submitted undertakings, the fact-finding team is continuing its investigation. The students holding posts in the hostel committees have been stripped of their responsibilities as a direct consequence of their involvement, Behera added.
