
Oman participates in meeting of GCC Ministers of Education in Kuwait
Oman's delegation was headed by Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education.
The meeting discussed several topics related to enhancing cooperation and integration among the ministries of education in the GCC states. The Gulf Strategy for Drug Control (2025-2028) was reviewed, which included numerous proposals for developing educational and training programs in this field.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the development of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) to ensure its contribution in supporting the work of the ministries of education and keeping pace with current and future transformations in education.
As for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the meeting agreed that ABEGS would incorporate some of the national indicators pursued by the GCC ministries of education into reports for Goal 4 (Quality Education) to highlight the role of GCC countries globally.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the strategic plan of the GCC Scouts and Guides Committee for the years (2026-2030), which includes local and international scouting programs and activities. Discussions also covered a study conducted by ABEGS on enhancing financial literacy among school students for practical application.
The meeting also examined several initiatives proposed by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia pertaining to school sports, sports exchanges for gifted students and outstanding teachers across the GCC, and strategic transformation in general education.

Majlis A'Shura studies overhaul of GCC Unified Customs Law
Muscat – Over two decades after the current GCC Unified Customs Law came into effect, Majlis A'Shura is reviewing a new draft law aimed at aligning regional customs frameworks with rapid changes in global trade and modern practices. The draft law, referred by the government to the shura, seeks to enhance the efficiency of customs operations, ensure greater transparency and support economic integration among GCC states. It includes amendments such as rephrasing chapter titles, updating or repealing outdated definitions, and introducing new articles to address emerging requirements in customs work. The Economic and Financial Committee of the shura hosted officials of Royal Oman Police and Ministry of Finance on Tuesday to discuss the draft. Discussions focused on facilitating smoother trade flows at both regional and international levels, in line with GCC efforts to harmonise customs procedures and regulations. Ahmed Said al Sharqi, Chairman of the committee, welcomed the officials and noted that their direct role in implementing customs law on the ground made their participation vital. He said the exchange of views and field insights would assist the committee in forming a comprehensive and well-informed opinion on the draft. During the meeting, members reviewed the observations and inputs presented by the officials. Their expertise, drawn from practical experience, covered several provisions of the draft, including operational procedures and enforcement mechanisms. According to the committee, the aim is to strengthen the legal framework that empowers competent authorities to carry out their duties more effectively across the GCC. The committee underscored the fact that the draft marks an important reform step, reflecting the need to update customs laws in light of rapid changes in international trade and increasing role of digital systems in customs operations.

SUHAR:Omani products are gaining a stronger foothold in international markets, with recent figures showing steady growth in exports and rising global demand. North Al Batinah, with its strategic location and world-class logistics facilities, is emerging as a driving force in this momentum. At a recent forum organized by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), North Al Batinah branch, business leaders, government officials, and logistics experts gathered to discuss how ports and maritime shipping can unlock greater opportunities for national exports. The event underscored Sohar Port and Freezone's role as a gateway to global markets and a pillar of Oman's trade competitiveness. Eng. Saeed al Abri, Chairman of OCCI North Al Batinah, highlighted the significance of the sector, noting: 'Maritime shipping is the backbone of global trade. By investing in logistics efficiency and international partnerships, Oman can ensure its products reach more markets and compete on a larger scale.' He further pointed to the Oman-U.S. Free Trade Agreement as a golden opportunity, offering customs exemptions and facilitating stronger entry for Omani goods into one of the world's most lucrative markets. According to the latest data, Oman's non-oil exports reached RO 1.618 billion in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 8.6% compared to the same period in 2024. By the end of last year, exports stood at RO 23 billion, marking a 10% growth from 2023. This positive trend continued into 2025, with exports valued at RO 10.683 billion by mid-year. Business leaders, government officials, and logistics experts gathered to discuss how ports and maritime shipping can unlock greater opportunities for national exports. North Al Batinah itself reported remarkable progress, with exports climbing to RO 676 million , a 37% increase while container traffic through Sohar Port grew by 15% in 2024. The forum in North Al Batinah was notable not only for its high-level discussions but also for the strong turnout of entrepreneurs, business owners, and representatives of various companies and institutions. Their presence reflected a growing awareness within the community about the importance of exports and logistics in strengthening the national economy. RNO commences process to recruit officer cadets
Muscat: The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), in coordination with the Ministry of Labour, has begun the assessment and admission procedures for Omani citizens to join military service as officer cadets (university graduates - executives). Applicants will undergo several assessment stages according to the RNO's recruitment procedures, leading to the final admission stages. The RNO is leveraging its administrative and technical capabilities to facilitate the procedures for joining military service and enlisting in the fields of honor and national duty. These strenuous efforts by the Ministry of Defense and the Sultan's Armed Forces to employ Omani citizens are in line with the plans and programs established to recruit citizens and provide the branches of the Sultan's Armed Forces and other departments within the Ministry of Defence with national manpower.
