Fatima Al Awadhi becomes youngest Emirati to summit Europe's highest peak
Al Awadhi braved extreme weather and difficult terrain to climb 5,642 metres.
She dedicated her achievement to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the 'Mother of the Nation" for their enduring support for Emirati youth and women.
"Reaching this summit was only possible because of the unwavering support of our leadership,' Al Awadhi said. 'I dedicate this achievement to those who taught us that nothing is beyond our reach."
It marks the latest step in her pursuit of the Seven Summits, after successfully climbing Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this year.
She stressed that her mission is "a message that Emirati and Arab youth, especially young women, are capable of leading, exploring and making a meaningful impact".
Supported by UAE-based Finance House, Al Awadhi also expressed deep gratitude to her family for their support.

UAE: Pakistan squad for T20I tri-series, ACC Asia Cup announced; match dates revealed
The Pakistan squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series and Asia Cup set to be played in the UAE was announced on Sunday, August 17. The tri-series, featuring Afghanistan, Pakistan and UAE will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from August 29 to September 7. Meanwhile, the eight-team ACC Asia Cup T20I tournament will be staged in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 2 to 28. Pakistan are placed in Group 'A' alongside India, Oman and UAE. The Men's National Selection Committee announced the 17-member Pakistan squad as follows: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicket-keeper), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Waseem Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sufyan Moqim. Khamzat Chimaev parades UAE flag after dominating Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319
Khamzat Chimaev continued his unbeaten streak by capturing the middleweight title at UFC 319 on Saturday night with a unanimous decision over Dricus Du Plessis. Chimaev, who calls Dubai home and received a UAE passport in February 2025, dominated from start to finish and celebrated with the UAE flag as the decision was read out in Chicago. He said post-fight that he was open to returning for UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi on October 25 should UFC bosses wish to put him on the card. Addressing his move to the UAE, Chimaev said: 'I moved to a Muslim country, I felt most comfortable [there]. I fought there before and they always give me big support.' Chimaev (15-0) shot out of his corner in the first round with a takedown of Du Plessis (23-3) in the opening seconds and had his opponent on his back for almost the entire first round. Despite the ground control by Chimaev, Du Plessis avoided significant damage in the opening session. But Chimaev continued with takedowns in the second and third rounds. His grappling skills took their toll in the third, when Chimaev landed a series of blows while Du Plessis was on his back. Chimaev continued his ground game in the fourth round and was untroubled by a late rally from the South African in the fifth. 'That guy is tough to finish. Respect that guy. [Du Plessis] was the only champion to say 'I'm in'. This guy has a big heart,' said Chimaev of his opponent. Du Plessis showed some life late on with a takedown and an attempted guillotine, but it was too little too late. For most of the fight, it was a complete domination of the former champion. 'Nobody wants to be in a crucifix getting punched in the head like that. It's got to be the most frustrating, suck the heart and soul out of you ...
