East TN nonprofit raising money for disabled dog found abandoned
GRANDVIEW, Tenn. (WATE) — After rescuing several dogs from a Rhea County home, a Tennessee nonprofit is hoping to provide a new lease on life for one of the dogs that was found partially paralyzed.
Amy Thran of the Flying Pigs Sanctuary visited the dilapidated home last month after receiving a tip from a local deputy. More than a dozen dogs were found, as well as several puppies found under the home. When Thran went to retrieve the pups from underneath the home, she found a dog in dire shape that wouldn't leave her side.

'After crawling back under the house not once, not twice, but he went with me three times. And I swear he was just like, 'don't leave me here. I'm staying by your side because you're not going to leave me here,' Thran told 6 News.
The dog's hind legs didn't work. He couldn't walk, but he could crawl. He was malnourished and flea-ridden with sores covering his feet from dragging himself around. Thran wrapped him up and affectionately dubbed him 'Burrito.'
'I'll never forget him looking at me and saying 'don't leave me here,'' Thran said. 'I had a dog bed in my truck and I literally rolled him up like a burrito and that's where his name came from.'
'I rolled him up, put him in the front seat and he literally laid staring at me the whole way home. The gratitude and appreciation was something I'll never forget.'
A veterinarian who evaluated Burrito said he'd likely never regain use of his hind legs. However, Thran realized that Burrito could wag his tail after bringing him back to the Flying Pigs Sanctuary, giving her hope that he could one day walk on all four legs.

The sanctuary has now launched a fundraiser to pay for an advanced diagnostic for Burrito to determine what can be done to help him regain use of his legs. The goal is to raise $4,000.
They are also holding a virtual step-a-thon for Memorial Day weekend, encouraging participants to get donation pledges for each step they walk on the holiday. The individual or group with the most steps will receive a weekend at one of the glamping cabins at Lemon Lane Farm in Grandview where the sanctuary is located. Watch: Funeral services for Morrow County deputy fatally shot on Memorial Day
GALION, Ohio (WCMH) – A private ceremony at Marion Cemetery will conclude a week's worth of remembrance for a Morrow County deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty. Deputy Daniel 'Weston' Sherrer will be laid to rest Wednesday in Marion. A public service to honor and celebrate Sherrer is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Northmor High School near Galion, with former sheriff and current pastor Steve Brenneman officiating. With permission from the family, NBC4 will livestream the funeral service. You can watch it in the video player above. Morrow County comes together to remember fallen deputy After the service, the procession route will proceed south from Northmor High School to U.S. 42, where it will head westbound past the Morrow County Sheriff's Office where Sherrer worked and through the center of Mount Gilead, the county seat. From there, it will proceed west on State Route 95 to Marion. The Sheriff's Office said its parking lot will be open to anyone would would like to view the procession and pay respects. Of those in attendance who spoke during the service was Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, Morrow County Sheriff John Hinton, and Franklin County Deputy Sheriff Michael Brewer. On Memorial Day, Sherrer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic situation at a home on County Road 26 south of Marengo. Sherrer's body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office before a police escort brought him back to Mount Gilead last Wednesday during a 120-mile procession. Flags around Ohio have been flying at half staff under an order from Gov. Mike DeWine that will expire at sunset Wednesday. Sherrer became a Morrow County deputy in May 2021. The 2012 graduate of St. Charles Preparatory in Columbus was engaged to be married and is survived by his parents and other relatives. Brian Wilson, 53, has been charged in Sherrer's death. Family mourns loss of ‘vibrant' woman killed in Western Mass. motorcycle crash
A family is mourning the loss of 'a vibrant and spirited' woman — Madisen Taylor — who lost her life in a car crash involving a motorcycle in Western Massachusetts over Memorial Day weekend. 'Madisen's loving and warm personality made a significant impact on the lives of those who knew her,' Taylor's obituary reads. 'She will be deeply missed.' Taylor died in a crash between a car and a motorcycle in Agawam in the early evening of Saturday, May 24. Agawam police responded to the crash at the intersection of Suffield Street and Adams Street shortly before 5:10 p.m. At the scene, officers found Taylor with severe injuries. Firefighters brought her to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where she later died. Taylor grew up in Ware and attended Pathfinder High School, her obituary states. Taylor's education helped her develop 'a passion for horticulture and gardening' as well as a 'deep appreciation for the beauty of nature.' She later moved to Agawam and started working in a dog daycare business. 'This career not only highlighted her nurturing nature but also her desire to bring happiness to the lives of others,' Taylor's obituary reads. 'Madisen's spirit was one of vibrant kindness; she had a smile that could light up a room and she gave the best hugs.' Outside of work, Taylor loved to sing and spend time outdoors, including at botanical gardens, the Quabbin Reservoir and the Swift River. The 26-year-old is survived by her parents, sister, fiancé, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Meanwhile Agawam and State Police and the Hampden County District Attorney's Office are investigating the crash. No further information has been released.
