UK meeting hails Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in supporting humanitarian causes
JERSEY — Senior representatives from donor countries and international humanitarian organizations attended the high-level meeting organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Pooled Fund Working Group (PFWG) in Jersey, the United Kingdom.
At the end of the meeting, participants praised Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in supporting humanitarian causes. They highlighted the importance of maintaining this international momentum to ensure sustainable response efforts and amplify their impact on the ground. The meeting served as a key milestone in global efforts to enhance financing mechanisms and response to humanitarian needs.
Saudi Representative in the Donor Support Group for OCHA and Assistant Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) for Planning and Development Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi participated in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Al-Ghamdi emphasized the importance of enhancing joint action and coordination among donor countries and UN institutions to ensure equitable and effective access to aid, particularly for the most vulnerable groups. He also reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, to continue supporting global humanitarian efforts, contributing to the protection of lives and the improvement of living conditions in affected communities.
Al-Ghamdi pointed out that the Kingdom is one of the leading and largest international donors in the humanitarian field, noting that Saudi Arabia, in recent years, has spearheaded notable humanitarian and development initiatives through KSrelief, which has reached more than 107 countries, implemented in partnership with UN agencies and international organizations.

Leading Maritime Security Efforts: Saudi Arabia Takes Command of CTF-150
Saudi Arabia has assumed command of Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150) – a multinational maritime task force responsible for conducting maritime security operations outside the Arabian Gulf against threats from non-state actors. During an official ceremony onboard the US Naval Support Activity in Bahrain, the Royal Saudi Navy Commodore, Fahad S. Al Joaid, assumed command of the CTF-150 from the Royal New Zealand Navy Commodore, Rodger Ward, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The commander of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), US Navy Vice Adm., George Wikoff, presided over the change of command ceremony, with the attendance of Chief of Staff of the Saudi Naval Forces, Lt. Gen. Mohammed Al-Gharibi; Saudi Ambassador to Bahrain, Naif Al-Sudairy; and a number of officials, ambassadors, and military attachés. In a speech, Al Joaid emphasized the full readiness of the naval forces for the task. 'This mission carries great responsibility. We will build on the achievements of our predecessors and work closely with all CMF partners to safeguard these vital waters together,' he said. This marks the fourth time for Saudi Arabia to assume command of the CTF-150, according to Al Joaid. Its areas of operation include the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Indian Ocean. The CTF-150 is charged with boosting maritime security by combating terrorism and illicit activities such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and arms smuggling, as well as protecting shipping lanes and ensuring the safe flow of global trade. Most Americans Support Palestinian State Recognition: Poll
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll has found that a majority of Americans back the international recognition of a Palestinian State. According to the poll, 58% of Americans believe that every UN member state should recognize Palestine as a country, while only 33% disagree. The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted over 6 days, weeks after several countries, including France, the UK and Canada, declared they would recognize the State of Palestine in September. It also took place as Hamas accepted a new Egyptian-Qatari ceasefire proposal, while Israel was considering the Palestinian movement's response. The proposed deal includes a 60-day truce during which a number of Palestinian prisoners will be freed in return for half of the remaining 50 Israeli hostages. Gaza is enduring a widespread starvation, amid warnings that Palestinians in the enclave are on the brink of famine. This has led several European nations, as well as Britain, Canada and Australia, to say that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached 'unimaginable levels.' In the light of this, most of the respondents to the Reuters/Ipsos poll see that the US should take action to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. 65% of Americans say that the US should help people who are facing starvation in Gaza, with only 28% disagreeing. Meanwhile, 59% of Americans believe that Israel's military response in Gaza has been excessive. The war in Gaza has so far claimed the lives of over 62,100 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
